Help fight antisemitism on campus

By Ted Belman.

I received an email today asking me to come to the defense of Tammi Rossman Benjamin who I met when she visited Israel over a year ago. Tammi is leading the fight against antisemitism on campus and is being vilified for it like Pamela Geller is vilified.:

I believe you are aware of the heroic work Tammi is doing to combat anti-Semitism at the University of California. The source of this anti-Semitism are various Moslem student groups. Now they have started a vicious campaign against Tammi.
Tammi is fighting the fight all of us (who are not in the IDF) should be fighting on behalf of the Jewish people. The harassment, anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism Tammi is fighting contains in it an insidious danger, and that is to drive Jews away from a sense of connection with Israel.
We have just seen how Stephen Hawkings a world reknown scientist folded like a bridge chair in the face of Arab pressure. Imagine the pressure on Tammi
I urge you to both publicize her plight and to urge your readers to do as Tammi is asking, which is to send e-mails on her behalf to various UC officials, most importantly, President Yudof. You have acquired a crew of characters who comment on IsraPundit. Perhaps with this matter they can be convinced to act and not just pontificate.

“Tammi needs our help. Your analysis are irrelevant.  She is fighting the good fight, and her reward has been to become a target of a vicious and widespread campaign by Moslem students.  Our job is come to her side by sending e-mails to key UC officials.

In Defense of Tammi Rossman-Benjamin at UC Santa Cruz

As I have previously reported, Tammi Rossman-Benjamin is an adjunct teacher of Hebrew at UC Santa Cruz (America’s Wackiest University). She has been relentless and courageous in making complaints about anti-Semitism on UC and CSU campuses. In response to her activities in standing up to anti-Semitism, she has been the object of relentless attacks by the various UC Muslim Student Association and Students for Justice in Palestine chapters, as well as something called the Committee for Justice in Palestine. In the past weeks, student governments at UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine -under pressure from these groups-have passed resolutions urging that UC President Mark Yudof and other UC officials condemn her publicly as an “Islamophobe”. These resolutions are evidence of just how organized and coordinated these groups are.
In response, Tammi’s organization, AMCHA Initiative, has issued the below-linked release. You can also access Tammi’s letter to President Yudof and write one yourself in Tammi’s defense. I will be doing so. Rather than condemn Tammi, Yudof and the respective chancellers should be making a strong statement in defense of her right to free speech and condemning this vicious campaign to smear and intimidate her.

A google search turned up articles in which the authors castigate Tammi for all manner of sins she didn’t commit. To me this video simply said the truth about various Muslim groups and their activity against Jews and Israel.

  1. “And when that someone is a college professor, a profession which is supposed to be the sole domain of the left, they really lose it and defame the individual in the most ugly and vile manner.”

No friends in this game, Laura, as we say in boxing. These so-called progressives turn into savages whenever they’re challenged by someone of their kith and kin.

  2. Some Jewicidal leftists become completely unhinged when someone dares to speak the truth about their precious fakestinians and islamic supremacists. And when that someone is a college professor, a profession which is supposed to be the sole domain of the left, they really lose it and defame the individual in the most ugly and vile manner.

  3. @ Michael Devolin: that was my guess too, and who it reminded me of. yamit and rongrand think its “hymie” who came here before my time. Unless he and “Hymie” are one and the same.(I dont know Hymie)

  4. Hymie shows up from time to time to antagonize everyone. He’ll go unnoticed for a time until some of his character traits begin to show.

    He is a royal pain.

  5. yamit82 Said:

    Is that you Hymie?

who’s Hymie? ( I have a feeling he was here before I came; I was thinking of someone we regularly grapple with)

he doesn’t exist, read my prior comment:
    Bernard Ross Said:

    Fred Rossman…….Tammi Rossman-Benjamin
have we been played, I suspect a regular IP poster in disguise who has this sort of cunning.

I think the same person who pretended to be Reverend Waugh also pretended to be fred rossman and i believe it is a regular IP poster who has proven to be sly, cunning and disingenuous in approach.
Who can guess who it is?

  7. Bernard Ross Said:

    possibly also a Jew

If this is the case (very likely), this is typical antisemitic Jew. There are millions of them!

    @ Fred Rossman:
Lot of Jews (US & EU) are used to the dhimmi status and prefer to hide than claim their rights.
It should be easier in the US than in the EU. Europe is and remains the cradle of antisemitism but slowly it is infiltrating the US. The refusal of Jews to stand for Jews is a significant symptom of this diseases called antisemitism.

@ Fred Rossman: Where do U stand?
FYI, there are plenty of “antisemites” among the teachers all over this country. Many of them are Jews. Very sad.

  8. @ Fred Rossman: Pardon me, but Ted’s comment has made me wonder. are you sure you actually have a nephew there, that your name actually is Fred Rossman and that you are Jewish. The reason I ask is that, upon re-evaluation, your post examples all the characteristics of the target market that the disinformation campaign relies upon when they send their members to comment in disguise on websites and forums. Pretending to be jews and assuming jewish names is their most common tactic on jewish sites.

  9. @ Fred Rossman:
are you sure your nephew is being honest?
    Fred Rossman Said:

She has never been a popular professor to begin

    http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=430909Fred Rossman Said:

it looks like she cried wolf with all these anti-Semitism charges.

    …and yet…

this campaign of vilification has been passed along to groups sympathetic to terrorists such as the International Solidarity Movement, and associated websites, the Electronic Intifada and Mondoweiss.
The Muslim or so-called pro-Palestinian student groups on campus affiliate themselves with jihadists and terrorist-supporting groups, and some of their members and speakers are terrorists themselves.
Students for Justice in Palestine accuse Israel of sponsoring concentration camps and running an apartheid state,….Their rallies have included surrounding Jewish students and shouting, “Too bad Hitler didn’t finish the job!” Their national conferences have been paid for by Hamas front groups and included speakers later arrested as terrorists.
The Muslim Students Association was founded by the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization committed to “the globalization of Islam through social engineering and violent jihad.” More than a dozen former MSA leaders and members have been convicted of terrorist activities and plots, including UC Davis graduate Hasan Akbar, who is awaiting execution for murdering U.S. soldiers in a terrorist attack in Kuwait. The younger Boston marathon bomber attended MSA meetings at his University of Massachusetts campus.

perhaps you should have a heart to heart talk with your nephew and ask him why he believes organizations and people which spread lies and libels against Israel and the Jewish people.
    Fred Rossman Said:

it’s the Jewish students not the Muslim students who have complained about her the most.

If true it is especially sad that jews carry the message which is designed to result in their own destruction. Perhaps you should help him to understand the history of 2000 years of pogroms and how what is going on now is not one iota different than all the other pogroms. German christians awoke one morning to find out that, after 200 years of having converted, they were considered by the 3rd reich to be jews and that they must pack their bags to get on the train except that most had to leave their bags behind, no time. It was an error in perspective. They thought they were exempt and that it was not their fight. So did the english, french, russians, etc.; later they found out differently.

@ Fred Rossman:I believe you share your nephew’s views but didn’t have the courage to say so. Secondly you smeared Tammi without evidence to support what you said. The Lifson article I just posted says that she is beloved by her students. Besides this is not a popularity contest. Let’s hear what your position is on the settlements, Apartheid Week and the threat of Sharia.

A very good idea. Let’s hear how Mr. Rossman feels about issues vital to Jews and Israel.

  11. @ Fred Rossman:I believe you share your nephew’s views but didn’t have the courage to say so. Secondly you smeared Tammi without evidence to support what you said. The Lifson article I just posted says that she is beloved by her students. Besides this is not a popularity contest. 12. Make lists of these and other Jews who actively support the enemies of the Jewish People in this existential battle. Shine a light on them, and take whatever actions necessary to expose and neutralize them.

  13. First, what’s important is to send e-mails supporting Tammi and her great work.

Second, remember that the Jews of Europe reviled Jabotinsky as the Holocaust was descending upon them. “Fred Rossman” is probably a fake, but it would not surprise me to learn that there are Jews disturbed by Tammi’s work. There always have been Jews who comforted themselves by creating fantasy versions of the world in which they are safe and loved.

This fantasy process often involves a good Jew, bad Jew construct. The fantasizers are the “good Jews” and the bad Jews are some other Jews who give the “good Jews” a bad name. In Germany starting in the early 19th century, bad Jews were Jews who were too religious. In Russia in the early 20th century bad Jews were simply Jews who insisted on being Jews. Today bad Jews are Jews who think that Israel has a right to have defensible borders and that the Jewish people collectively have a right to their homeland.

We have seen how episodes one and two of Good Jew, Bad Jew ended. Unfortunately most Jews today still cannot learn the blatant lessons of history.

  14. @ Fred Rossman: dear fred, in spite of my disagreement with your nephews views I want to thank you for submitting your comment because it gives posters here some first hand knowledge of what goes on in the minds of US Jewish students and why. do not be discouraged or take it personally if posters get upset. Most posters here are knowledgeable about the disinformation being spread about Israel and the Jews and are therefore very concerned in general. those who one hoped would represent Jewish truths rather than detractors lies are buying into the detractors lies I believe because of media and institutional bias and antisemitism. It appears that the Jews are the worst detractors. this defamation against the professor is a tactic intended to silence the truths she speaks and appears to be led by a Jew representing the electronic intifada and Al Jazeera. when you read her blog it is clear that every libel is intentional, I have no reason why she does this but I know where libels lead the Jews.

  15. Fred Rossman Said:

it’s the Jewish students not the Muslim students who have complained about her the most.

If these jewish students are unable to research the facts and instead believe lies because everyone utters them then every Jew should be afraid. the world uttered these same lies before only more so now. the educated uttered these lies before but more so now. They are not aware of history enough to know how such things evolve. they believe the world has evolved beyond that. He should be told that Germany was the most liberal place in europe for the Jews before Hitler arrived. the Jews flocked there from eastern Europe. A good history project would be to compare the rise of anti semitism today with that of pre holocaust germany. In order to get past the false card of anti Israel, anti zionist as opposed to anti semitism he must see if double standards are being applied to Israel. double standards are the hallmark of anti semitism.

  16. “Your nephew doesn’t want to engage in this fight and prefers to keep a low profile and not be called a racist of Islamophobe. Well I got news for you, Tammi is 100% right and your nephew and his friends are 100% wrong.”

Good for you, Ted. I’ve seen these “moderate Muslim” students in the flesh. They are crass and shameless and brutal anti-Semites. As Kim Philby said: “Great education, no intellect.”

It’s true: this fellow does not want to step up to the plate; he’d rather let the anti-Semites rule the roost and continue to tell lies and vilify Jews. There are only a few Jewish students who are willing to fight Muslim anti-Jewish hatred, the rest just want to get their education without any “trouble” from the anti-Semites.

  17. @ Fred Rossman:
    Reasons for firing:
    Fred Rossman Said:

1-most of the Jewish students on campus are embarassed
2-students would not give a damn
3- She has never been a popular professor
3-looks like she cried wolf with all these anti-Semitism charges.
4-No faculty member has any use for her either.

In my view the only reason for firing her is if she intentionally lied which is what the muslim student organizations do.
    Here are their lies:
1-Settlements are illegal fact is that the only population specifically recognized to be encouraged to settle the west bank are the Jewish people.
2- Israel is an apartheid state-Arabs are in knesset, colleges, vote, etc. in Israel whereas there is not one inch of arab controlled land from the former Palestine mandate territory where there are Jews(Gaza, Jordan, PA west bank)
3-IDF is guilty of war crimes IDF is one of the most moral armies in the world, far ahead of the US. It is the pals who are guilty of war crimes by locating military facilities in residential areas intentionally to produce these false claims.
4-Israelis are brutally murdering Palestinians and their children
5-The west bank is occupied territory under the Geneva conventions- a false canard, the land is disputed territory.
Anyone who utters any of the above is a liar or an ignoramus. they are lies and libels and anyone uttering these lies intentionally are anti semites. Therefore, the muslim student organizations are anti semitic because they intentionally utter libels knowing they are lies.
Your nephew, like many US jew has been following the crowd and relying on MSM sources and respected international organizations for info like the UNRWA(who employ hamas terrorists) or the UNHRC who has Israel on a permanent condemnation agenda while leaving the greatest rights abusers alone. they are also populated by the worlds greatest rights abusers.
Your nephew needs to ask some questions:
1- Why does the world talk about arab refugees but has still not dealt with the greater number of jewish refugees expelled from arab lands as a result of the same conflict.
2-Why do the Pals train 10-year-old children to slaughter Jews while Jewish schools teach coexistence.
3- Why are their arab knesset members in Israel but no jews in arab controlled areas of former Palestine(gaza,PA west bank, Jordan) and is this a good prognosis for arab rule
4-Why are muslim places of worship protected in the state of Israel but desecrated and destroyed in the muslim controlled areas and why do arabs have freedom and priority over jewish worship in Israel but jews cannot pray freely at cave of patriarchs etc.
5- why do international orgs call jewish settlement illegal when they are aware that Jewish settlement is guaranteed under international treaty and thus international law(san remo, LON mandate, UN charter art 80)
6-Why do pal orgs fabricate blood libels against Israel and the Jews-Jenin massacre, mohammed al dura,BBC reporters baby recently, etc etc etc. Apparently the truth does not support their lying narrative.
7- why does the MSM almost exclusively quote Israeli Journalists from Haaretz and Israeli leftist “experts” when these sources represent a minority of the Israeli public. could it be that they want to filter the facts to create their own narrative.
Your post is excellent in that it clearly demonstrates the problem with young US jews and the US jewish population.
Your nephew needs to find his way to sources on the internet other than the MSM and leftist outlets. The important thing is to determine lies and truth and not be a robot parrot clone. The fact is that the muslim student organizations do have financial connections with terrorist organizations and terror supporting states. the fact is that the pal orgs are spreading lies to deprive the jewish peoples of their rights and connectins to Israel. The fact is that there is little difference between the libels those orgs spread and the libels that juews put christian childrens blood in their matzoh because the agenda and goal is the same.

  18. She is fighting a good fight and all Jewish students should support her. Time for them to stand up to the Muslim groups.

Amazing how Muslims claim to be targeted as terrorist. Well, first of all we don’t believe all Muslims are terrorist however, 99% of terrorist are Muslims.

Remember California like Oregon leans liberal left.

  19. @ Fred Rossman:

“Jewish students on campus are embarrassed by this Tammi”

I have been following the courageous actions of Tammy for quite some time and if any student were embarrassed it would be due to the embarrassment of being Jewish plus ignorance and lack of concern for what is happening to Jews and Israel on campus. It would also be mixed in with fear of what leftists and Islamists think about Jews and perhaps even guilt for not helping Tammi in this important fight.

I have seen Jewish students and professors who are ashamed of Israel because they have been brought up in an environment where socialism, leftism and consumerism took precedence over any talk of Israel’s history, unique position in the world and right to exist. The schools would reinforce these sentiments with propagandist one-sided curriculum. Our synagogues and agencies would also help to make “peace” the focus rather than victory over those who are attacking and have chosen us as their enemy.

So the resulting attitude of some students is a belief that both sides are wrong and a disdain for anyone who takes up arms in defense of Israel. They refuse to get involved and they refuse to support those principled defenders like Tammi who speak out effectively to bring the problem to light and put themselves on the line when others remain ignorant and useless.

  20. @ Fred Rossman:
Fred you are way off base. I note you didn’t write what they didn’t like about her. I suspect its because she fights Muslim student organizations and your nephew and people like him, don’t want to fight them. Your nephew doesn’t want to engage in this fight and prefers to keep a low profile and not be called a racist of Islamophobe. Well I got news for you, Tammi is 100% right and your nephew and his friends are 100% wrong.

  21. My nephew Justin, a UC-Santa Cruz student tells me that most of the Jewish students on campus are embarassed by this Tammi and would not give a damn if she was fired which is likely. In fact, it’s the Jewish students not the Muslim students who have complained about her the most. She has never been a popular professor to begin with and it looks like she cried wolf with all these anti-Semitism charges. No faculty member has any use for her either.

  22. It appears that the person leading the campaign and publishing the lies is Nora Barrows-Friedman of the electronic intifada and al jazeera contributor, possibly also a Jew.
