Bibi Shelving Levy Report

Several weeks ago the historic Levy Report declared that Judea and Samaria are not “occupied,” and that Israelis have the legal right to live in the area. The ground-breaking report was welcomed by the political right.

However, in the weeks since, it has been quietly pushed aside. The report’s findings have not been the subject of discussion in government – not even in the ministerial committee for settlement.

Likud MKs and ministers who have spoken to Arutz Sheva in recent weeks have admitted to confusion over the complete lack of attention to the report. MK Tzipi Hotovely said she believes Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who established the Levy Commission, wants to see discussion of the report. However, she was unable to explain why, if Netanyahu wants to pursue the matter, it has not been pushed forward.

In another interview, Minister Yuli Edelstein said Netanyahu had promised him that the matter would be brought before a ministerial committee in September. September is now coming to an end, and the promised discussion has yet to take place.

A senior Likud source who spoke to Arutz Sheva this week on condition of anonymity revealed that Netanyahu is indeed ignoring the report for “diplomatic reasons.” It was not clear if Netanyahu was concerned over possible negative reactions to the report, or simply is choosing to focus on other matters, including the Iranian threat.

A second Likud source suggested that the United States presidential elections may be a factor. Netanyahu may wait to see who wins before choosing his next move, the source said, noting that if current U.S. President Barack Obama is reelected Israel is expected to come under unprecedented diplomatic pressure.

A third source, Vice-Premier Moshe Yaalon, recently spoke of the Levy Report during an interview with B’Sheva magazine. Yaalon told B’Sheva that he supports the report, but prefers not to discuss a timetable for discussing and implementing due to factors on both the local and international scene.

  1. It makes perfect sense for the Israeli government to not allow Jews to pray on the Temple Mount.

This is so because those who run Israel are “Israelis” and the ones they fear most are not the “Arabs” but the “Jews”.

When you understand this concept, you’ll understand every move the Israeli government makes.

  2. @ Canadian Otter:

BB is the great destroyer. His perfidy in selling us out to Obama and to the Americans and Europeans is only second to what he has done to our Army and our most loyal and law abiding citizens. I can’t say publicly what I wish for him, but little imagination should be necessary to read my mind on this issue.

  3. @ Laura:
This side of the Israeli government is practically unheard of abroad, where the government tries so hard to cultivate a reputation for being extremely tolerant of all religions and lifestyles. If foreign supporters of Israel only knew!

But it’s not only the expression of Judaism that is being curtailed by authorities, but also that of Israeli patriotism. On this year’s Independence Day Jews were told not to hold signs saying “Proud to be Israeli” because it might offend Israeli Arabs! http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/155255

  4. @ Laura:

Laura, it is also morally wrong for the Israeli government not to allow Jews to pray at their Temple, in the Holy Land G-d provided for them.

    Makes no sense.

How is it, Israel a sovereign Jewish Nation with it’s capital in an undivided city of Jerusalem and yet does not permit her people to pray at their holiest site.?????

    Time to change this.

I am sure G-d is not pleased.

  5. But arrests do take place in Israel. A 21-year-old resident of the Judean Jewish community of Kiryat Arba was detained for questioning, Tuesday morning, after he prostrated himself on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The action violates guidelines for non-Muslim visitors to the holy site, who are not allowed to do anything that resembles praying. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/250666

That the Israeli government gives in to islamic supremacist savages by arresting Jews for praying on the holiest site in Judaism in the sovereign Jewish state, amounts to treason.

  6. POLICEMAN ALMOST LYNCHED by Arab mob, while commanders ordered his fellow officers to stand by and do nothing.

The incident took place at Shuafat, where Arab mobs surrounded a border policeman’s station, throwing fire bombs in it. All this was videotaped, and the police officer is heard shouting “I don’t know what to do. I’m burning, come save me.”

The officer remained alone as fellow officers, standing just 100 meters away, were told not to intervene. The incident ended when more forces arrived in an armored jeep and drove the mob away. The officer who had been under attack was lightly wounded due to smoke inhalation. The rioters were DISPERSED. No arrests were made. – http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/160393

  7. PART OF A DISENGAGEMENT PLAN?
Was the Levy report commissioned with the ultimate purpose of lending legal support to the annexation of the larger settlements – while disengaging from the rest? – That has been my impression all along. An impression now bolstered by recent statements by ministers Barak and Lieberman.

“Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said in closed meetings recently that he was considering supporting Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s proposal that Israel unilaterally disengage from Judea and Samaria if a peace agreement cannot be achieved with the Palestinians.”
    http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_article.php?id=5922

Barak compared peace in Judea and Samaria with Israel’s constant state of “friction” with Gaza. In an incomprehensible reasoning process, this led him to conclude that that Israel must disengage from Judea and Samaria as well. Predicting that violence is sure to rise in the PA, he appears to think that it’s better if it happens without the IDF being able to control it, just as with Gaza terror. Anyway, that’s the model he proposes for Judea and Samaria.

This nightmare scenario seems something out of a made-in-Teheran plot. But it comes right out of the minds of two experienced ministers in the Israeli government.
