Bibi wants to use referendum to by-pass government

PM tells cabinet after meeting Kerry that any accord with PA will be brought to referendum

By law, any deal involving giving up parts of Jerusalem must be approved by a 50% majority in a referendum. But no deal goes to a referendum unless the government approves of the deal.

But this statement by Bibi has a different ring. Bibi knows it is tougher to sell a deal to his own government than it is to sell it to the Israeli people. He’s hoping that the government will pass the buck to the people rather than split up over the deal.

I don’t like it.

Bibi says; “We will not compromise on security and there will be no agreement that will endanger the security of Israeli citizens,”. My concern is that he will endanger our rights not our security. If only he would guard our rights as he does our security, we would have nothing to worry about.

  1. The money wasted for the UNRWA should be redirected to help the Pal who wish to immigrate outside IL and J & S should be reincorporated officially into IL.
No need for a referendum. Waste of time and precious kessef.

  2. HAREDI soldiers subjected to abusive treatment {“reminiscent of Der Sturmer” – while government treats Jewish graffiti agaisnt Arabs as “terror”.

Senior IDF officer paints disturbing picture of physical harm, incitement against haredi recruits, including spitting, tire slashing, house spraying – http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4399276,00.html

Defense Min. Yaalon announces ‘price tag’ acts to be defined illegal, meaning that Jewish perpetrators of violence against Arabs to face same legal proceedings Palestinian terrorists do http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4399365,00.html – How’s that for ‘moral equivalence’, by Israeli officials themselves?

PS: My censored comment #4 on Aryeh Eldad has been posted.

  3. @ Max:

Enemies within, enemies without. It’s hard to say which is worse

The ones ‘within’ without any shadow of a doubt. For as far as the ones ‘without’…. Remember the story of Gideon …..
We saw it in ’48, ’67 and ’73
And we might have to do it again, but first we must jettison the traitorous luggage in whichever form that might manifest itself…

  4. Max Said:

Israel is soooo dead. Enemies within, enemies without. It’s hard to say which is worse but dead is dead.

    BOO from Jerusalem.

  5. Israel is soooo dead. Enemies within, enemies without. It’s hard to say which is worse but dead is dead.

  6. ARYEH ELDAD has the right idea – Political parties are hopeless in Israel. Their internal conflicts and MKs ambitions get in the way, so that they rarely listen to the public. A non-partisan national organization would be more effective in advocating for the nationalist majority. ~~~ I have mentioned that a national organization could start in Yesha, because they are the ones with the most to lose if the ruling elite decides to partition the country. But it does not necessarily have to be so localized. ~~~ Former MK Aryeh Eldad is now the newest chairman of “Professors for National and Economic Strength” and wants to turn this organization into a real opposition.

That’s a good beginning. His organization needs to ally itself with university students and then people from other occupations. The main thing should be to keep it independent and exercise influence that way. (I’ve always liked Aryeh Eldad. He could make a good Prime Minister some day.) http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/169470

  7. No deal between Bibi and Abu Mazen for a Two State Solution will happen! Abu Mazen would accept a state ONLY if handed to him without making ANY concessions (e.g. right of return, end of the conflict, recognizing Jewish State, demilitarized PAL state, with security provisions for Israel in the Jordan Valley and elsewhere, give up the old City of Jerusalem). This is why he is avoiding negotiations for years now. No deal is possible.

Bibi deserves an Oscar for talking so much about a PAL state and the great concessions he is willing make for peace with security. He knows NO deal is possible with Abu Mazen.

Even if they ever start talking Abu Mazen will either die or be in an old age home in Jordan before Kerry gets these guys to agree on a state.

Besides with the sequester congress will be asking for Kerry’s frequent flyers miles. He will get tired of staying at the King David and stop coming to Israel.

  8. But this statement by Bibi has a different ring. Bibi knows it is tougher to sell a deal to his own government than it is to sell it to the Israeli people. He’s hoping that the government will pass the buck to the people rather than split up over the deal….I don’t like it.

here is where the ignorance of the Israeli people will demonstrate itself, those who are not even aware of the jewish rights in YS, those who believe that the arabs are the indigenous people, those who believe that islam is superior to judaism in the land of israel, those who protect the arabs and assault the jews. This will be the price of the intentional, incompetent or negligent maintenance of the ignorance of the jewish people by the govt and institutions of the state of Israel. If a majority of the people of israel is not even interested in all of C then all the chat of those on the right has been in vain, misdirected and misguided. the institutions of those for YS have been incompetent and negligent in revealing truth to the jewish people withheld by their own govt. Opportunism and self interest have prevailed with each constituency pursuing its own perceived narrow interests.
a referendum was what I thought those on the right desired, what is not to like? Those israelis on the right who did not pursue the activist pathways open to them such as lawfare, PR, etc should not be surprised if the majority are still uninformed. going and creating havoc on the Mount is good for campaigning and reelection but brings no progress to the interests of the constituents. there has been a great absence of activism in diplomacy, lawfare and public education which has been filled by no one. The minority left is much smarter at getting results and organizing. The right will spend its time arguing over which way is better and then doing nothing.

  9. Jews are negotiating with themselves – again, the Arabs refuse to make peace with Israel. All the talk in the world of an agreement with them won’t change the fact that peace in the Middle East, is for a variety of reasons, impossible.
