Pamela Geller defends free speech at Brooklyn College

Muslim students came two hours early, in sufficient numbers, to make sure they occupied all the seats.

  1. @ CuriousAmerican:

Unfortunately, we have been drawn into this. Haven’t enough Americans died in Iraq, and Afghanistan?

Au contraire! It is us the Jews who have been dragged into this. Last time I checked Christians did not only live in the U.S.

  2. @ CuriousAmerican:

So the Muslim/Jewish debate is absolutely uncompromisable. It will necessarily be very violent

    @ dove:
Are the Christians ready for the front lines? – many will actually offer! 🙂

There are approx 2 billion Christians in the world. So, if you were to lose 6 million it would just be a drop in the bucket.

I was not recommending war … I was stating its inevitability.

  4. @ Ted Belman:
Why a mistake. The fact that this video is online is the video’s primary value. The actual ability to address an audience of people who violently disagree with her just makes this video all the more powerful a message! It helps that her message is a true reflection of America’s basic democratic values.

  5. @ bernard ross:
this tactic proves that they are frantic to prevent the public from learning the truth. about who and what they are. This is such an anti american behavior that she should publicize it as another fact demonstrating their dangerous agenda to destroy democracy.

    I agree it was unAmerican.

However, the fight over the Holy Land had been radically vicious from day one.

The issue is uncompromisable, since the contest between Muslim and Jew ultimately devolves down to: Whose God is God.

This is greater than the Christian/Jewish debate which is over an interpretation of the Jewish texts, and the addition of Christian texts. 2/3rds of the Christian Bible is merely a translation of Jewish Scripture.

The Quran is a totally different book, so the difference is larger.

So the Muslim/Jewish debate is absolutely uncompromisable. It will necessarily be very violent.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Palestinian
In 1978, Vanessa Redgrave was sponsoring a pro-Palestinian movie in Los Angeles California called THE PALESTINIAN.

The film was to be shown at The Doheny Plaza theatre, Los Angeles. The morning before a showing, on June 15, 1978 at 4.26 a.m., a bomb exploded in front of the theatre.

So yes, I do believe Pamela Geller was totally mistreated, and the
Arabist protesters were wrong to shout her down.

But this Arab-Jewish contest has been violent, unorthodox, and even terroristic from the beginning.

And not all the terrorists were Arabs. The JDL engaged in some nasty activities as well. I believe the JDL was behind the bombing of the Doheny Theater in 1978.

    @ bernard ross:
If they had a shred of credibility they would have sought for truth to come to public light.

This has been a nasty battle since day one.

Unfortunately, logic will not resolve this.

The Arabs decided in advance to line up for the lecture two hours early so that they would occupy all seats before inquiring minds came.

  7. Ted, I cannot believe that the Jewish organizations, which are usually at the top of their game, allowed that to happen.

The Jewish groups fought tooth and nail to get Univ. of Michigan, next to Arab Detroit, to suppress a pro-Arab BDS divestment vote – yet they let Brooklyn fall.

    Not good planning.

Still it ain’t as bad as what happened in Montreal in 2002 at Concordia in your neck of the woods.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcedmeGewF0

Canada as a percentage has far more Arab Muslims than America. 3% vs 0.8%.

    Still, I am amazed.

That auditorium should have been packed with Jewish students from the New York College system.

  8. That was gutsy on her part.

I cannot believe that the local Hillel did not anticipate this.

Brooklyn College has a very large Hillel.

Brooklyn is still far more Jewish than Arab. Only Bay Ridge has a local Arab concentration – albeit a noticeable one. Yet, even in Bay Ridge, the Arabs are a minority. Where were the students from Jewish Borough Park and very Jewish Williamsburg.

    This was very poor planning.

For a community which is usually on top of its game when it comes to activism, you screwed up.

Jews outnumber Muslims 3 to 1 in Brooklyn, and since they are more educated, this ratio should be higher at the college level.

Brooklyn College has a very vocal Students for Justice in Palestine.

    No one anticipated this?!! C’mon!

    This was very poor planning.

  9. Pamela tells me she had no choice in the matter. The Arabs decided in advance to line up for the lecture two hours early so that they would occupy all seats before inquiring minds came.

  10. It was a mistake for Pamela to enable the audience to be predominantly Muslim. This resulted in no dialogue. A more diversified audience would have engendered a read discussion.
