Report: Syria’s Al-Assad accumulated greatest wealth for an Arab dictator after Qaddafi

A report published by Investopedia, a website specializing in finance, revealed the names of eight dictators defined as the richest, including five Arab leaders. The greatest wealth was that of the late Mu’amar Al-Qaddafi of Libya ; followed by Bashar Al-Assad of Syria ; Hosni Mubarak of Egypt ; Ali Abdulla Saleh of Yemen ; and Zein Al- Abidin of Tunisia.

According to the report, the wealth Qaddafi accumulated over 42 years of being in power in Libya reached between $75-80 billion. Although Assad’s wealth is estimated at $1.5 billion, when adding his real estate holdings and the overall wealth attributed to the Assad family, the amount reaches $122 billion — more than half of the Syrian budget between 1970 until today.

The wealth of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was estimated to be $70 billion; while that of former President Saleh of Yemen was $32 billion; and Tunisia ’s Al-Abidin $7 billion.

Also on the list were Zimbabwe ’s Robert Mugabe with $10 billion; Equatorial Guinea ’s President Teodor Obiang Nguema Mbasogo with $1 billion; and Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba, also at $1 billion.

  1. I don’t think putin is arab? the others owned the countries, arafart, abbarse have not reach that point yet unless arafarts mousalium could be considered prime realestate?

  2. No doubt Putin isn’t on the list because he covered his tracks better, or scared the folks at Investopedia more…

So on the face of it, Assad, Qaddafi (who got it all? Jihad Olami?) and Mubarak (I suppose we know who got that) all had more, much more, than Bill G. and his comrades! I suppose George Soros is now busily advising them what to do with it too.

To put it another way, if the Allied Powers had to invade Libya anyway, they could have solved a lot of the Western World’s troubles if they had helped themselves to some of it, but of course we mustn’t think like that ;-).
