The next war with Hezbollah will devastate Lebanon

T. Belman. Israel will have no choice to massively invade and bomb the shit out of it to reduce Hezbollah’s ability to fire rockets on Israel.

The next war between Israel and Hezbollah will be devastating, and Hezbollah will be the guilty party, journalist Willy Stern wrote in the June 20 issue of The Weekly Standard.

Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed terrorist group based in Lebanon, has an arsenal of more than 130,000 rockets, more than all NATO countries, excluding the U.S., combined. This number includes long-range rockets and M-600 ballistic missiles, which carry a high payload and would be able to “wipe out a good chunk of Times Square and maim and kill people four football fields away from the point of impact.” Hezbollah has approximately 100,000 short-range rockets trained on schools, homes, and hospitals in northern Israel that would unleash chaos and potentially kill hundreds of Israeli civilians.

Geoff Corn, an international military law expert, explained the difficult choices Israeli officers face when Hezbollah purposefully places such weaponry in civilian areas. If Israel were to strike in this instance, he concluded that “both legally and morally, the cause of these tragic consequences will lie solely at the feet of Hezbollah.” Because of this, Corn said, “Hezbollah should be pressured starting today to avoid locating such vital military assets among civilians.” Otherwise “the instinctual condemnation of Israel will only encourage continuation of these illicit tactics.”

Stern explained that while Hezbollah has the manpower and weapons arsenal “of a nation-state…its tactics are those of a terrorist organization.” Because of this, the destruction inflicted upon Lebanon in the event of war will be massive. This is despite the fact that the IDF wages war in a cautious way to minimize civilian casualties; in fact, Michael Schmitt, chairman of the Stockton Center for the Study of International Law at the U.S. Naval War College, said, “The IDF’s warnings certainly go beyond what the law requires, but they also sometimes go beyond what would be operational good sense elsewhere. People are going to start thinking that the U.S. and other Western democracies should follow the same examples in different types of conflict. That’s a real risk.”

In a New York Times article in May 2015, Israeli military officials detailed how Hezbollah has “moved most of its military infrastructure” in and around Shiite villages, which “amounts to using the civilians as a human shield.” One official stated that Lebanese civilians are “living in a military compound.” He told the Times: “We will hit Hezbollah hard, while making every effort to limit civilian casualties as much as we can…We do not intend to stand by helplessly in the face of rocket attacks.” Stern, who was shown maps of the locations of Hezbollah weapons, said that they are not only being stored in these southern villages, but in Beirut itself.

Yaakov Amidror, Israel’s former national security advisor, met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the summer of 2013 and showed him “detailed evidence of Hezbollah’s deadly arsenal and the fact that it was strategically placed within densely populated civilian centers.” When Amidror asked Ban what the Israelis should do, he “offered no response and no suggestions.” Stern concluded his piece, “Nobody, it seems, in times of peace is willing to offer Israel a constructive suggestion on how to deal with an Iranian-backed terrorist organization in possession of a massive arsenal on its northern border. But these same organizations stand front and center to criticize Israel for acting legally and proportionately for protecting its own citizens in wartime.

The next conflict with Hezbollah must be a ultimate warning to Hamas and other Gaza fanatics as well.
    Olmert wasted an opportunity.

Forget the pontificating or warning! Forget satisfaction.

The next war is either Israel or Hezbollah. That is it.

There should be no satisfaction or delight in the outcome. Just surviving.

    Hezbollah as 80,000 missiles.

If only 10% could hit Tel Aviv, that would be 8,000. That could represent 24 missiles an hour, or 576 missles a day for two weeks.

    Israel could not sustain that.

Israel will have to invade, sustaining massive soldier casualties, against Hezbollah’s honeycombs – which is what Nasrallah wants – or Israel will have to go nuke or subnuke (neutron bomb) in a matter of hours after the first missle hits Tel Aviv.

Israel has to kill everything South of the Litani within the first day of the war or Israel will lose the war. That has to be communicated to Hezbollah; not to Lebanese government which is more or less a bystander to this disaster.

Unfortunately, given the nature of this war, either one side (the Jews) or the Lebanese (Shia) will be genocided.

    Israel has no choice.

I am not saying this with Yamit’s lusty “Kill the goyim” attitude. I am a goy.

I am saying this as a cold-blooded analysis.

Either South Lebanon will be evaporated or Israel will fall. Israel has to go nuclear next time.

Where I differ with Yamit is that Yamit would probably want all of Lebanon destroyed. Frankly, the Christians (Central Lebanon) have nothing to do with this, and are powerless to stop it. I do not see the justice in going after Central Lebanon.

But everything south of the Litani (Shi’a) will have to be evaporated within a few hours, or Israel will be destroyed.

  2. The next conflict with Hezbollah must be a ultimate warning to Hamas and other Gaza fanatics as well.
    Olmert wasted an opportunity.

  3. Hezbollah is a genuine menace, and if not stopped in the first few hours, Hezbollah could destroy much of Israel’s infrastructure.

Israel will have no choice but to go nuclear, or sub (small) nuclear.

The real sad victims are the Maronites.

The Maronite Christians were never opposed to Israel. Some like Patriarch Mubarak were publically in favor of Israel.

    http://www.information-international.com/index.php/the-monthly/articles/596-52-years-after-his-death-bishop-ignatius-mubarak-still-creating-a-schism-but-some-think-that-his-grace-remains-and-that-he-made-us-a-nation

This was not merely due to the accusations of treason that were laid on him in 1947, following a memorandum he sent to the United Nations supporting the creation of the State of Israel

In 1947, Lebanon was 52% Christian, 48% Muslim.

When the Palestinian refugees were dumped in Lebanon, Lebanon offered citizenship to the Christians, but could not safely naturalize the Palestinians, without disturbing the demographics of then Christian Lebanon.

    This led to Palestinian insurgency.

In 1956, 67, and 73, Lebanon remained neutral. The Christians who then ruled the government wanted nothing to do with the Jewish-Muslim fight.

So neutral was Lebanon that many Arabic speaking Jews fled to Lebanon instead of Israel. The Maronites did not hate the Jews. They hated Muslims.

By 1968, the PLO was launching raids on Israel from the Lebanese south.

The Lebanese Army was too weak to stop them. So in 1968, Israel attacked Beirut airport to punish Beirut for a problem that the Lebanese Christians could not control.

When the Lebanese Christians finally did take on the Muslims, they lost during the Lebanese Civil War.

Into the vacuum, Iran armed Hezbollah.

Lebanese has always been a very weak state. From day I, the Christians refused to arm the military, fearing some Muslim colonel would attempt a coup.

Hezbollah is the result of the long Muslim-Jewish fight which is being fought in a Christian area. Believe it or not, most Maronite Catholics wanted nothing to do with it; but they are powerless to do anything about it.

If you ask the Maronites, they will tell you: They have nothing against Israel, just get the Palestinians out of Lebanon and send them back to where they came from.

In 2006, the Christians were hoping for an Israeli victory until Israel started bombing Christian towns.

Lebanon is a mess. The government is too week to take on Hezbollah. If Israel backed off in 2006, what makes you think Beirut can do what Israel could not.

The Christians are the real victims in this. It is disingenuous to ask Beirut to do what Israel did not in 2006.

  4. This is a real and present danger.
    1. The government of Lebanon is well aware of it and the
    devastating consequences they will suffer.
It is their responsibility to ask the world for help in getting
rid of the Hezbollah. If they cannot, or do not want, They will
    pay the price.
    2. The US decided that the only way to stop Japan will cost
civilian lives. And it did. They wiped out Hiroshima and Nagasaki. oner 350,000
    lost their lives.
    3. But the real culprit for this imminent catastrophe is Iran.
They should know that immediately after the first missile falls
on Israeli soil, Teheran just like Hiroshima and Nagasaki will
be Wiped out. And remember! Obama. in his commemoration visit
to Japan last month, did not offer any apology. and rightfully so

  5. Israel yet again grovels before the U.N. Israel should accuse the U.N. of war crimes against Israel and even against the Arab civilians who are placed in harm’s way by allowing Hezbollah to target Israel with 130,000 rockets. Israel should announce that they will fight American style as in WWII when U.S. bombers incinerated enemy civilians killing tens of thousands in a single raid when America cities were never threatened. The can must be make IN ADVANCE that the next war will be the fault of the U.N. and the U.S. for not preventing the missile threat against Israel. And the blood of those killed must be on the hands of the U.N. and the U.S.
