Dervish’s website was hit by venomous abuse from anti-Israeli activists, on the instructions of the Irish Palestinian Solidarity Group. Every bit as sinister as this has been the silence from politicians and “civil liberties groups”: the exception, of course, being Alan Shatter, who is Jewish. It was as if the intellectual thugs of the IPSG were trying to vindicate my recent suggestion that the largest threat to personal freedom these days comes not from government, but from single-interest pressure groups.
Tactics and techniques that would be called fascist by liberals if used against them were at the heart of the campaign against Dervish. For in the left-liberal culture, certain subjects are beyond the usual courtesies of a tolerant civilization, and instead may be subjected to outright bigotry and bullying. The legitimate targets for this salon-terrorism are the Catholic Church, American Republicans, and of course Israel.

I think the serial killing of Jews by the Europeans is closely related t replacement theology. How does one worship a practicing Jew and yet seek to kill all the other jews? Basically the witnesses must be killed and the evidence removed because the Jews are a very inconvenient impediment to the “truth”. Even a lie repeated often enough, that becomes the truth, has difficulties explaining the elephant in the room. In that case the elephant must be removed and buried in order to fool oneself.

Please answer. What I have written here gets to the heart of the issue, because if Jews cannot understand this present crisis in capitalism then they are in danger from all kinds of conspiracy theorists, the essence of which is antisemitism. For example, there is fast developing Antisemitic Fascist movements in Europe as in Greece, and another sign of this is the witchhung against Brookes and news of the World etc, while the Obama regime is creating conditions for American Fascism (going to war in Libya without Congress)

Not understanding this, or deliberately leaving it out, leads the writers above to minimise one very large issue as regards the British and the Jews around 1920: The British saw the Jews as Bolsheviks.

The pre-Mandate, military authority, known as OETA (Occupied Enemy Territory Administration), feared Arab displeasure from the kind of news that the Balfour Declaration indicated, so it kept the matter quiet for as long as possible. Moreover, the officers exhibited a pronounced tendency, in the utterance of one observer, to “look down on the people in their care as a tiresome gaggle of Yids and Wogs.” Indeed, the Authority made no secret of its displeasure with the task it was assigned, as that task ran so strongly contrary to the administrators’ own ego-image, to say nothing of their bureaucratic inclination toward the path of least resistance:

Perhaps the most trenchant observation of the enduring effect of the military administration on the subsequent history of the Mandate, in light of OETA’s “keen regard for the pleasures of a quiet life, especially after the fatigues of a long war” — and which regard insured that, in practice if not in theory (though even the latter remains questionable), the Authority’s “conduct of policy became anti-Zionist because they were enemies to enthusiasm and Zionism lived on enthusiasm” [Christopher Sykes, Crossroads to Israel, 1917-1948 (The World Publishing Co., Cleveland, 1965), p. 39] — appears in a contemporary memoir of the period, which remarks that what the military adminstration
“did do… was to make every Arab realize that [notwithstanding the clear, unambiguous language of both the San Remo Resolution and the Mandate Charter] it was absolutely an open question whether a Zionist or an Arab policy was to be eventually adopted, to allow the impression to be broadcast that the administration favoured an Arab policy and that the policy of HMG could be deflected by the requisite amount of vim and determination.” [Horace Samuel, Unholy Memories of the Holy Land (Hogarth Press, London, 1930]
Under the circumstances, the Arab violence which followed, again & again, can hardly be seen as anything but perfectly rational.

The Black and Tans, as well as the Auxies, were indeed disbanded in 1922 — but as I noted above [post #7], the Brits put out a call shortly afterward for volunteers among members of both former groups and sent them on to Mandate Palestine.
As for your latter assertion about things not getting rough under HMG until the 30’s, I’m afraid that’s more than a trifle sanguine; the truth is that oppressive British policies began almost immediately with the Crown-designated, military administration.
The careerists who came to constitute its ruling clique in Jerusalem — colonial apparatchiks transferred in from Cairo & Khartoum, who were directly charged with execution of the Mandate’s provisions — had, virtually from Day One, operated at cross-purposes to the Mandate’s stated objectives: which those careerists viewed (as they did the French presence in Syria) as inimical to their own retro-colonialist dreams of an all-Arab Middle East, “supervised” by the British Empire.
It is fair to say that these “Arabists” of the occupying military authority knowingly set out, arguably from even before the beginning, to countermand & subvert the clearly enunciated & solitary objective of the Mandate: They deliberately moved to undermine any future possibility of a Jewish National Home in Palestine, and to crush out decisively any burgeoning hopes for eventual independent Jewish sovereignty there. In fact, John, they went considerably beyond ‘yielding’ to Arab pressure & bestiality: they catered to it and organized it.
“It was this group, all powerful on the spot,” relates Samuel Katz, that inspired and mobilized and established organized Arab resistance to the Jewish restoration. It used its power and authority as a military regime to establish facts, to create events and to control them. It was this group whose views progressively pervaded the subsequent [civilian] mandate regime.” [Samuel Katz, Battleground: Fact and Fantasy in Palestine (Bantam, NY, 1973; 3rd Edition, Steimatzky, NY, 1985), p. 60]
As shocking and as disturbing as Katz’s denunciation reads, it is far from hyperbolic. The Cairo-Khartoum clique was directly responsible for the Easter Pogrom [Nebi Musa Riots] of early April 1920, which was intended to create pressure for HMG’s abandonment of the Zionist program anticipated in the then-forthcoming Palestine Mandate, and for the incorporation instead of Palestine into a British-run, Hashemite Syria.
The simple fact of the matter is that “the military government which, until the summer of 1920, administered [pre-Mandate] Palestine was,” in Harry Defries’ dry utterance, “not particularly enamoured with the Balfour Declaration.”
For more than 2 years, it neither published nor allowed the publication of the Balfour Declaration in Palestine (although outside the country, the document was widely published in the British and world press). This act of omission was backed by specific prohibition from headquarters in Cairo. The Declaration, wrote the Chief Political Officer [Sir Gilbert Clayton, at the time] to the Chief Administrator in Jerusalem, on Oct., 9, 1919, “is to be treated as extremely confidential and is on no account for any publication.”

Of course you can complain about antisemitism etc. but that in itself can be a justification for doing nothing.
The basic consciousness of the Irish is Celtic, as the poetry of W.B. Yeats shows. Catholicism in Ireland became a mixture of Celtic animism and Church dogma, an unending conflict between these two has persisted.
We come back all the time to the power of the narrative. The Arabs were skilful in selling the lies about Palestinism, also the Arabs have had much money behind them to develop this lie, and the Jews of Israel have been very divided and unsure. While many though not all of the Jews in the Diaspora have lacked backbone.
The key to Ireland, and to everywhere including Israel and America, is leadership. What leadership will emerge? What leadership will prevail? i say authentic Trotskyism.
To the best of my knowledge the Black and Tans were disbanded in 1921-2 and it was only after 1930 that the British Government and the forces under their control commenced to pursue policies oppressive of the Jewish Community. Perhaps BlandOatmeal should produce reliable authority for his assertions.

With the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, England and Southern Scotland, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal Italy, Yugoslavia, the Alps and North Africa were taken over by semi-civilized Germanic tribes. The Roman Catholic Church, which provided a sense of stability and continuity among the people of these areas, was not as effectively organized as it would become in the High Middle Ages. The Irish monks, meanwhile, established communities dedicated to learning; and they spread their communities and culture first to Scotland, then to England, and then, at the invitation of the hairy-coated Franks and their Catholic Roman wives, they crossed the Channel to teach the Continentals. Many of the old Germanic legends were translated by them, but most of this work was destroyed after Charlemagne’s death by iconoclastic Roman clergymen. Eventually England and Scotland, and finally even Ireland, were taken over by the Romans.
This certainly doesn’t cancel out ANY Irish hatred toward the Jews. As with most people, the Irish have a core community that has produced some fine citizens, such as George Bernard Shaw and the Duke of Wellington; they also tolerate some of the most violent, unprincipled terrorists on the planet. During World War II, they were, what my Scottish roommate once described as “a nest of German spies”, while at the same time large numbers of Irishmen fought as volunteers in the Allied cause. I read in 1972 a story about the Provisional Irish Republican Army, whose spokesman noted that they were sympathetic with, and fighting alongside, the then-universally-condemned Palestinian Liberation Organization (headed by the true pervert Yassir Arafat, whom the stupid Israeli Jews would later invite into Israel to set up a legalized, Jew-hating, terrorist base there). In those days, as today, there were some peace-loving Irishmen along with the bad; but I can’t make any excuses for their coddling of some of the more vile people our planet has produced.
The extreme left needs to be called out for the totalitarian, antisemitic, genocidal sociopaths that they are. And those who know in their hearts that what they do regarding Israel is morally wrong, in fact evil, need to stand up to their bullying and resist any pressure to boycott Israel. Hi Joe; sorry you feel that way about the Irish but your mistaking one despicable and discredited group of nutcases (Irish Palestinian Support Group or PIGS) for an entire population. Without a doubt this group and their ilk are a hot bed of Anti Semitism but they only speak for themselves; the problem is that behave like outrageous bullies and anyone who disagrees with them is targetted. I have often gone toe to toe in a shouting match with some of these vile people in defence of Israel and will continue to do so but posts like your are not helpful to anyone, especially Israel. Shortly after the British military occupation regime [OETA] was replaced by a civil administration, the Mandate came to be policed by an entirely alien gendarmerie, drawn, as you note, from the ranks of the recently demobilized & singularly vicious Black & Tans. They were originally created by Churchill and came to be characterized by some as “independent mercenaries.”

One person asked in reference to Irish who were on the ship to Gaza which Israelis boarded and several Turks lost their lives. He asks when are Irish going be a ship that sails to Syria? The Irish like all anti-Semites try to hide their vile beliefs by saying they are only anti-Israel. I also believe if the mother country is so anti-Semitic , I doubt Irish Americans suddenly admire Jews. You did say they don’t hold such rabid hostility which is probably true. This may be because Americans in general are less religious. But in Ireland ,I’ve heard people are much less religious as in the rest of Europe, yet the people remain obsessed with hatred of Israel.

The Irish immigrants loved it. They added a bit of boiled cabbage, and they baptised it “Corned Beef.”

I have grown to despise the Irish. Prior to and during World War II, Irish gangs roamed the streets assaulting Jews in the major cities in the Northeastern US especially in Boston home of the scumbag Nazi sympathizer criminal Joseph Kennedy. In Boston, the police being almost entirely Irish ,when they weren’t too drunk, actively persecuted Jews doing their best imitation of Nazis in Germany. In the late 30s and during WWII, Irish gangs roamed Boston especially after hearing radio broadcasts of Father Coughlin ,the Irish American (no coincidence) Catholic priest who was one of the vilest anti-Semites in the history of the US. These cowardly gangs who numbered 40 or more assaulted any Jew they could find. Since Irish made up the vast majority of the city of Boston Police Department, police in Boston and to lesser extents in NY and other cities would not only refuse to arrest the Irish gang members but would sometimes arrest the victims or assist the low life Irish in their physical assaults.
