The Obama admistration has not yet decided whether to endorse efforts at the United Nations Security Council addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by the end of the president’s term, Washington’s envoy to the UN, Samantha Power, told a group of Jewish leaders on Thursday.

The Manhattan meeting, which included Power and over 40 representatives from the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, featured a lengthy conversation on the prospect of UN action– of great concern to the Jewish American establishment, to the Israeli government and apparently opposed by the president’s choice for successor, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has characterized such moves in the past as “counterproductive.”

Attendees of the meeting who spoke afterwards with The Jerusalem Post left with the impression that Power doubts action will be taken. But US officials say that no final decision has been made as to how the US will proceed.

“When asked about whether the Obama administration was planning an initiative related to Middle East peace, Ambassador Power stated that she could not foreclose any options, because ultimately, such a decision will be made by the president,” a US official told The Post on Friday night, confirming the conversation. “When asked about a potential UN Security Council resolution, she answered that she would not speculate on a hypothetical resolution and clarified that no such resolution is on the table today.”

France has led an effort in recent months to outline international parameters for a two-state solution, and to effectively set a refreshed standard for an end to the decades-old conflict. Israel opposes the initiative as an imposition of terms, but the US says it supports the effort in principle.

Paris would like such terms codified in a Security Council resolution. The US says that it does not oppose all resolutions on Israel in the council as a blanket rule.

Power said that the administration “will continue to assess how to most effectively support a negotiated two state solution, and reaffirmed that the administration would oppose one-sided resolutions at the UN Security Council that delegitimize Israel or undermine its security,” the official added.

  1. Unfortunately, Bernard Ross is correct.

I suggest that your readers read the Jewish Journal of Los Angeles… Run by leftist ideologue Rob Eshman. they should post on that journal to counter the constant stream of J St. propaganda.

  2. of great concern to the Jewish American establishment, to the Israeli government and apparently opposed by the president’s choice for successor, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has characterized such moves in the past as “counterproductive.”

any jew who thinks that clinton will not repeat her backstabbing of Israel as she did when SOS is delusional. Those jews opposing Trump and supporting hillary, in Israel and the USA, should stop whining when she gets in and screws the jews for her leftist muslim constituency. There can be no sympathy for such arrogant dumb fools. Have these fool jews not noticed the massive surge in anti semitism attacking jewish children in schools and colleges since the dems got in? They will be to blame when their children are attacked and abused by the dem party constituents just as they are being abused now. All the attacks come from leftists and muslims… the dem voters…. I hear of no attacks from right wing nazis.

  3. In times of danger, like today, Israel must remember that Eretz Israel belongs to Ad_nai and was given to Jewish People in 1948 for ever. Not an inch of land will be given to Israel’s enemies. See how many times the palis have rejected a partition; they want all of the land. Do not worry; we will see miracles happen about this danger. Just remember some od Ad_nai words in Shemot, chapter 33, Verse 1:

Shem 33:1 And the Lord said to Moses, Go forward, go up hence, thou and thy people, whom thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, into the land which I swore to Abraam, and Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I will give it to your seed.

So, do not worry; remember Who is in control of Eretz Israel.

  4. Obama spent American money to see to it that Netanyahu lost his last election. Hillary’s in love with the Arafats and the US overthrows ANY government in the Middle East it chooses to.
Bill Clinton’s wife has gone hog wild over anything Barack wants done, and had a delicious experience having Ghaddafi overthrown and brutally murdered. Yet, 75% of America’s Jews will vote Clinton? The only comfort is that at least that many Muslim-Americans will too! Who do you trust?
