Why Democrats are declaring war on Trump: They're terrified

In a panic over their unexpected losses in November, Senate Democrats have declared war on Donald Trump.

It’s not just Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer’s (N.Y.) pledge to filibuster the new Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, before his name was even announced, although that was indicative of a dangerous new tone that I have never witnessed in 30 years of covering Washington politics.

In just the second week of the Trump administration, Schumer announced that America was “on the cusp of a constitutional crisis.” Why? Because the president fired an Obama political appointee serving as acting attorney general after she refused to carry out a lawful order.

Forget the fact that every president has the right to appoint his own people to executive branch positions, or that the listing of these well-defined positions is known as the “Plum book.”

Forget the fact that Bill Clinton fired all 93 U.S. attorneys when he took office in 1993, replacing them with his own political picks.

Democrats have entered a zone where facts don’t matter; even actions don’t matter. Whatever this president does, they will oppose. Why? Because this is war.

Listen to the words chosen yesterday by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.), the ranking member of the Senate

Foreign Relations Committee, in his floor speech announcing his opposition to Rex Tillerson as the secretary of State.

Cardin’s main beef with Tillerson was that he “demonstrated business orientation in his responses to questions during the confirmation hearing.”

Now, that should not come as a surprise to the good Senator, given that for his entire career, Mr. Tillerson has been a businessman — and a very successful one, at that.

American history has many examples of businessmen serving as secretaries of State or secretaries of War with great success. Think George Schultz or Henry Stimson.

But for Cardin, that was enough. In fact, that was his only direct criticism of Tillerson. He immediately pivoted to name-calling and invective.

“The first 10 days of the Trump administration shows that the president is intent on compromising our values, abandoning our allies,” Cardin declared on the Senate floor Tuesday, calling Trump’s executive orders the sign of an “unstable, reckless foreign policy.”

He then accused unnamed individuals in the new administration of mounting “a willful, dangerous campaign … to bend or potentially even break the law.”

Tillerson, he claimed, was likely to be “another ‘yes’ man, enabling the risky, chaotic whims of a demagogue president,” who Cardin claimed was engaging in “hate-mongering.”

Calling the president a “demagogue” after just 10 days in office is extraordinary. These are not normal terms of senatorial discourse. And if you had watched the good senator on C-SPAN, he seemed at times on the verge of apoplexy or tears.

And yet, I am sure that many Democrats reading this will agree with Sens. Schumer and Cardin. Some have already compared Trump to Hitler.

What explains the unusual vitriol?

I believe it stems from the inability of many Democrats to accept their defeat in November, or to understand that the people of mainland America — that heartland between California and New York — overwhelmingly rejected their elitist vision and collectivist values.

During the campaign, Donald Trump made a number of specific promises to the American people. Over the past 10 days, he has been fulfilling them one by one and the Democrats are tearing out their hair, because they know what this means for 2018.

Democrats are terrified that Trump will succeed. They are terrified that his border wall will stem the tide of illegal immigration and dramatically reduce the flow of illegal drugs into this country.

They are terrified that his temporary ban on refugee resettlement that empowers Customs and Border Patrol agents to devise a more rigorous vetting process will keep America safe.

They are terrified that he will defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and forge stronger ties with Arab nations such as Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia who are on the front lines of that fight.

They are terrified that key European countries will turn to the right in this year’s elections, rejecting the new world order ruled by an unelected globalist elite.

They know that if Trump succeeds, as they fear, he will sweep the U.S. Senate and they will become a dwindling minority party representing the globalist, high-tech elite and an army of pajama boys based on the two coasts.

Democrats are going to war because their schemes have been exposed and they fear they are about to lose their jobs.

I hope everyone in the White House is wearing body armor by now, because this is going to get much worse.

  1. Given an opportunity the left/far left will destroy the US as we know her!!! They are crypto-socialists who have learn nothing about socialism!

  2. Islam is a violent “religion” they cannot live in harmony with others.
I would recommend reading a good translation of the Koran.
Moslems go to the Mosque and open their prayers by cursing
Christians and Jews. Oops! Sorry: Jews and Christians and
    close-out with more cursing.
Sharia Law requires the beheading of infidels.
    I have 2 Questions:
What are these people doing in our civilized word?
When are we going to stop being taken for suckers!

  3. Judge Gorshuch will be the new Judge at the Supreme court and the rabble passing as the Democratic Party will further sink. In a couple of years another Judge will be leaving the Supreme court and again President Trump will name his or her replacement.

  4. If the Dem’s continue with their insane antics to disrupt the duly elected and install government, there is already on the books sufficient grounds for Donald to act to end their asinine behavior, basically its called “sedition”. Look up the definition yourself. So far Donald is making many right moves to bring into the fold those who could be opposing him. If some seek basically to simply undermine the legally constituted government, Donald ( unlike our ultimate wimp ) has the balls to act. Hopefully these self styled anarchists will see the light of day, even if it takes a few of their leaders being quietly investigated for the possible laying of charges of sedition, etc. Even lefties can often see the light of day, even through their Rose / lefty colored glasses.

  5. @ M. Cohen:

    On Thursday, February 2, 2017 9:07 AM,

Trump Was Correct … McCarran-Walter Act of 1952

I guess the petulant law professor B.H. Obama simply
    had another lapse of memory:
                                         ANOTHER REAL EYE OPENER.

Wouldn’t it have been interesting if,
at some point during the presidential campaign, if one of the candidates
asked, “Oh, by the way, has anyone
in Washington, D.C., ever heard of
    the McCarran-Walter Act Of 1952?”

I did not know of this act until recently,
but it has been a law for almost 65 years.

Here are the historic facts that would
seem to indicate that many, if not most,
of the people we elect to work for us in Washington do not have the slightest
idea of what laws already exist in OUR country.

After several terrorist incidents were carried out in the United States, Donald Trump was severely criticized for suggesting that the U.S. should limit or temporarily suspend the immigration of certain ethnic groups, nationalities and even people of certain religions
    (Muslims).

The criticisms condemned such a suggestion as, among other things,
being un-American, dumb, stupid, reckless, dangerous and racist.

    Congressmen and senators swore
that they would never allow such legislation, and our  president called
such a prohibition on immigration unconstitutional.

As Gomer Pyle would say, “Well,
    surprise, surprise!”

It seems that the selective immigration
ban is already law and has been
    applied on  several occasions.

    Known as the McCarran-Walter Act,
    the Immigration and Nationality Act
of 1952 allows for the “suspension of
entry or imposition of restrictions  by
the president, whenever the president finds that the entry of aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests
    of the United States.”

    “The president may, by proclamation
and for such a period as he shall
    deem necessary, suspend the entry
of all aliens or any class of aliens, immigrants or non- immigrants, or
impose any restrictions on the entry
of aliens he may deem to be appropriate.”

Who was president when this was passed? Democrat  Harry Truman.

Who do you suppose last used this process?  Democrat Jimmy Carter,
no less than 37 years ago, in 1979 to
keep Iranians out of the United States.

But Carter actually did more. He made
ALL Iranian students, already in the
United States, check in with the government.  And then he deported a bunch of them.

Seven thousand were found in violation
of their visas and a total of 15,000
Iranians were forced to leave the USA
    in 1979.

So, what do you say about all of the criticism that Donald Trump received
from the Democratic senators, representatives and the Obama Administration?

Additionally, it is important to note that
the McCarran-Walter Act also requires that an “applicant for immigration must
be of good moral character and in agreement with the principles of our Constitution.”

Therefore, one could surmise that since the Quran forbids Muslims to swear allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, technically, ALL Muslims should or
could be refused immigration to OUR country.

  6. There are a lot of Trump supporters in NY. After all, Trump won an overwhelming victory in the NY Republican primary against all his opponents. My whole family and I voted for Trump. Most of the Russian Jews voted for Trump on both coasts. So I don’t think it’s fair to lump all the coastal Americans in one pile.

  7. Undeniably, the election of Donald Trimp is ushering a new type of leadership:
There will be law and order, countries will be run by administrators, not ideologues,
There is nothing wrong about America, therefore slogans like hope and change –
change to what? – will no longer be acceptable.
The focus will be on full employment, counting every adult able to work,
budgets adhered to, cost control, elimination of deficit and debt,
Education geared to achieve employment, emphasis on Trades, Engineering.
Democrats are being ridiculous in their behaviour, language, and the lack of
acceptance that the people are always right.
