Will the Left unite to defeat Netanyahu?

By Ted Belman

Recent polls suggest Likud will win 27 mandates compared to present 27 and that the center/right coalition will go from 66 to 68 seats.

But Efforts to form ‘Center-Left mega-party’ gain steam

If Olmert heads a Center-Left bloc he would be able to form a coalition with religious parties and with Yisrael Beytenu, whose leader, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, met with Olmert this week.

Olmert will make the peace process based on his offer to Abbas, the central issue.

Or according to JPOST,

Projections for the number of seats the Labor party under Shelly Yacimovich fell from earlier polls, giving her 17 mandates. Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid party was projected to also take 17 seats.

Yacimovich, according to JPOST, wants to focus on new and different issues, and not on “the same moldy, old issues that don’t help anyone.”

He has given Barak political power unknown before in any DM

I am concerned that Israel discovers the incompetence of Barak during war. He spends so much time playing FM and PM I cant imagine that he has performed the job of DM. bibi appears to totally rely on Barak/ It is true that BB has been a disappointment and appears to be satisfied with stalling Obama rather than changing the paradigm.

  2. @ Laura:

You would prefer Olmert and the left?

I am, no longer frightened by the threat of professed leftists and centrists taking over the Government. The Likud today is not and has not been a right wing party since before Begins election in 1977.

The Policies of the Likud since Begin, have shown little difference except rhetoric between left right and the middle. BB is carrying out or would carry out most if not all Olmert’s policies if given the chance.

Both are owned by money Oligarchs here in Israel, America and Europe. The American’s have the same influence over both . Both are criminally corrupt except BB has yet to be caught except for taking bribes which he called donations for his many overseas trips.

BB is an economic American conservative or Thatcherist ideologue which is wrong for Israel and I’m not sure it’s right for America either, just look at the long term results.

With Olmert, at least he had the guts to wage mini war in Lebanon and Gaza despite mixed results whose failures should be laid at the doorstep of the IDF more than him; BB is chicken, spineless,a weasel and a demagogic liar.

With Olmert the real right wing parties and politicians can unite in opposition and hopefully take the majority of the Israeli people with them. Maybe decent new leadership will be discovered. With BB and the Likud in power they divide the right and marginalizes those who oppose BB
and the Likud. The left is not so strident because more than less BB is carrying out most of their ideological programs. They oppose his economic handling of the economy or his economic priorities.

He has given Barak political power unknown before in any DM and since Barak is hated more than Olmert and BB and has zero political support and backing the question remains why BB needs him or allows him to remain as DM.

BB’a policies against settlement and settlers is worse than any government Israel has ever had and that includes Olmert and Sharon despite Gush Katif and Amona.

His policies re: Jerusalem are perfidious and traitorous. He has allowed the Terrorists to control most of East Jerusalem and much of Area C. He has done Nothing to stop the expansion of Bedouin Land grabs in the Negev. He has not stopped infiltration by Africans and who knows who else from infiltrating our borders. His retaliation to terror from Gaza is timid when it is addressed and that is sporadic.

He has allowed Christian Missionaries free had to do what they want and has allowed missionary TV stations to proliferate. He has approved massive land sales to Christian Missionaries, to build even stronger base in Israel to convert Jews and subvert or politicians and political institutions.

He has left us vulnerable to Iranian threats and has capitulated to Obama every-time Obama applied pressure against him. One might think he is in the employ of the Oil producers including Iran because every time he cry’s wolf, the price of oil goes up enriching our enemies and the oil companies.
One might think BB heads a caretaker government because they have accomplished nothing positive in the last 3,5 years and he has not put forward
a single national project. He has overseen the biggest real-estate bubble in the nations history that like America can bring down the whole financial structure of the country when it blows and it will.

    Want More? I can supply.

Anyone but BB and the Likud.

quitea few ‘promising’ politicians have appeared and they talked a very good ‘talk’, they most certainly did not walk ‘the walk’ (ret. col. alen west, immediately comes to mind)
bibi, the ex member of the sayeret matkal whose speeches (in the distant past)seemed so promising, so reasuring…turned out to be a ‘fool’s gold’, just talk, full of sound and (not so much)fury, but (definitely) signifying NOTHING!
to my thinking, and from what i am able to gather, feiglin seems to fit the bill…
but he is entrenched in likud and i do not see any ray of hope 360 around.
a definite feeling of doom and gloom.

  4. BB and the Likud are the best group of the least offensive politicians, towards the arab muslims, that has a chance to form a government, that Israel has. The difference between Knesset and an insane asylum is that management of an insane asylum is NOT comprised of the nuts. The Knesset usually is.
