Peloni: This would be a chilling development

THE AMERICAN DEATH SENTENCE AGAINST HEZBOLLAH HAS NOW ENTERED THE IMPLEMENTATION PHASE.
OUR SOURCES CONFIRM THAT SYRIAN FORCES WILL ENTER LEBANESE TERRITORY WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, WITH A CLEAR OBJECTIVE: DISMANTLING HEZBOLLAH’S MILITIA INFRASTRUCTURE.
Syrian army units are expected to advance all the way to Beirut, including Dahieh and Haret Hreik, Hezbollah’s main strongholds in the capital.
More than 140,000 Syrian troops have been prepared for the operation, led by a formation described as the “Foreign Fighters Corps,” driven by a doctrine of retaliation for Hezbollah’s actions against the Syrian people during the war.

This sounds like wonderful news until one considers the meaning of the word “wonderful”. It would require an ultimate wonder for this proposal to work. In fact, with the current Syrian leadership leading the charge, it is likely that Lebanon would become Hezbollah-Land rather than any other leadership. If this proposal were allowed to proceed, the Syrians would either have to coordinate with Israel (very likely proposal) or work fully independently, without any cooperation.
Taking the coordination proposal, Israel would continue to bomb the hell out of Hezbollah, while Syria would massacre all they don’t like and blame it on Israel (anyone remember Sabra and Shatila?).
Taking the independent proposal, Syria would demand/require that Israel withdraw fully from Lebanon until they complete their part of the deal. This is a non-starter since the rockets would still be flying for the duration and there would be no solution that satisfies Israel.
At this point in the game, agreeing to a Hudna with Lebanon or Syria is out of range. A Hudna is just a pause in the game to rearm, not to reach a permanent solution. Israel should continue to conquer southern Lebanon up to the Awali River as a first target. If this is not enough to get peace in Israel’s north, keep going.
Hmmmmm
