Jews, Communists and Democrats

By Ted Belman (originally published in Dec 2011)

I just began reading Blacklisted by History; The Untold Story of Joe McCarthy.  It seeks to establish that many of the people that McCarthy targeted unsuccessfully were later proven to be communists.  It brought back many memories for me.

I grew up in the forties and fifties.  My father’s family, like many other Polish Jewish families in Canada, were avowed Communists.  They were dedicated to Jewish rights, workers’ rights and marched in the streets to advance their   causes.  They even managed to get one of their own, J P Salsberg, elected to the Ontario legislature representing the Communist Party, then called the Labour-Progressive Party.

I was old enough to remember the heated debates on the trial and execution of the Rosenbergs, the Doctor’s Plot as alleged by Stalin, and the McCarthy hearings.  I even watched the hearings on that newfangled device called television.  I read the Bintel Brief and The Rise of David Levinsky by the editor of the Forward, Abraham Cahan.  I was an avid reader of IB Singer, Bernard Malamud, Phillip Roth (I married a Communist), Irving Howe, Chaim Grade, Sholem Asch, I.J. Singer, and many others.  I went beyond the tribe and read Theodore Dreiser, John dos Passos, Upton Sinclair, Sinclair Lewis and John Steinbeck.  That was my generation.  My Zionist readings had not yet begun.

Massive Jewish emigration from Russia to the U.S. was driven by a wave of anti-Jewish pogroms sponsored by the tsarist government after the assassination of Alexander II in 1881.  Russia wanted to suppress those advocating reform.  The minister of the Interior gave a speech in 1903 in which he said:

In Western Russia, some 90 per cent of the revolutionaries are Jews, and in Russia generally — some 40 per cent. I shall not conceal from you that the revolutionary movement in Russia worries us but you should know that if you do not deter your youth from the revolutionary movement, we shall make your position untenable to such an extent that you will have to leave Russia, to the very last man!

And so they did in huge numbers.

Wikipedia summarizes:

By 1924, two million Jews had arrived from Eastern Europe. Growing anti-immigration feelings in the United States at this time, resulted in the National Origins Quota of 1924 which severely restricted immigration from many regions including Eastern Europe. The Jewish community took the lead in opposing immigration restrictions, which remained in effect until 1965.

Thereafter, Jews came to Canada as their second choice.  They included my father’s family, which were Communists, and my mother’s family, which were Zionists.

In the thirties, America was plagued by the Great Depression.  I was proud of my father’s family because they fought for workers’ rights and a better world.  Franklin Delano Roosevelt, on the promise of a New Deal, was elected president in 1932, an office he held until his death in 1945.  The Jews, Communist or otherwise, worshiped Roosevelt.  That worship was little diminished by Roosevelt’s failure to bomb the extermination camps or to allow Jews, even those fleeing the Holocaust, to enter the U.S.  He would not allow the Jews on the St. Louis to disembark, leaving them to their fate, which was a return to Europe and death.  It was of no concern to U.S. Jews that the New Deal was unconstitutional or ultimately was proven to have extended the Depression.  And it was of no concern to the Jewish leadership that Jews were dying by the millions in the Holocaust.

The Jews remained loyal to the Democratic Party throughout.  They also remained loyal to liberalism and secularism.  Communism was embraced because it offered an antidote to discrimination and persecution as it existed in Russia and in America in the first half of the 20th century; you know, “Workers of the World, Unite!”  Even though Communism proved to be a false God, duly noted by Koestler’s The God That Failed, the Jews continued their quest for equality and civil rights.  They believe as a result, in the separation of church and state and the responsibility of the state to provide for those in need.

After 2,000 years of Christian antisemitism and discrimination, is it any wonder?  To them, the present was never worth preserving.  To the contrary, it needed to be transformed.  First, the Jews focused on workers’ rights and union rights in America.  Then they led the civil rights movement, which resulted in the liberation of blacks.  Not that the blacks appreciated it.  In fact, black antisemitism is very high compared to in other groups.  They see the Jews as responsible for black exploitation rather than black liberation.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was formed in 1920 by a group of radicals, socialists, and Communists whose purpose was to defend their fellow radicals.  The founders were not Jewish. Twenty years later, the ACLU banned Communists from positions of leadership and from its staff.  Over the years, Jews became very influential in this organization.

The ACLU’s stated goals were “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarantee everyone in this country.”  It was prominent in the Scopes trial of 1925, which hoped to ban the teaching of evolution in the public schools; it stood alone in fighting the internment camps for the Japanese after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor; and it paired with the NAACP to challenge racial segregation in public schools.  The resulting Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education that ended the era of “separate but equal” was a major victory for racial justice.  The ACLU was also involved in the 1973 Supreme Court victories in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, which held that the right to privacy encompasses a woman’s right to decide whether she will terminate or continue a pregnancy.  It even fought in defense of freedom of speech, for the rights of Nazis to march against Jews in Skokie, Illinois.  It led the attack against the Patriot Act.

The ACLU’s activities have been characterized as anti-God, anti-American, and anti-family, all notable communist goals.  Yet the ACLU did what it did in the name of individual rights.  Although the ACLU lobbies Congress and state legislatures, its accomplishments derive chiefly from judges who share the ACLU’s view of the Constitution as a “living document.”  There is little if any daylight between them and the Democratic Party and Barack Obama. And they are all pro-uncontrolled immigration.

A fellow traveler of the ACLU is the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which was formed in 1913 “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all.”  It has served a useful purpose and has done good work but, according to Bill Levinson, has strayed from its charter.  Levinson charges that “[t]he ADL has also become a facilitator and enabler of the very hate-mongers it claims to oppose,” that it shilled for President Obama by proposing “National Pledge for Unity on Israel,” that it was and is an advocate against Second Amendment Rights to bear arms, and that it is a defender of sharia.

Rabbi Nachum Shifren is not so kind.  He writes,

The ADL has nothing to do with Judaism, Jews, or Jewish Survival. It is a collection of communists, anarchists, Jewish 60’s [sic] drop-outs, bitter about their nothing status and eager to spread their venom about a socialist paradise at which they believe only they can succeed. (The earlier Bolsheviks and Trotskyite’s [sic], they assure us, just didn’t get it right.! [sic])”  (Emphases in the original.)

Unfortunately, liberal Jews don’t see it that way.  They continue to worship the ACLU and the ADL.

Is it any wonder, then, that 78% of the Jews voted for Barack Obama in ’08 and his goal of “transformation of America,” notwithstanding his pro-Palestinian and anti-American running dogs?  Most Jews still support Obama, notwithstanding his very anti-Israel policies.

This is not to say that all Jews, or even many of them, are Communists or anti-Americans.  They aren’t.  America has been good to them, and they know it.  Having been denied civil and human rights for at least a thousand years, they have become fierce defenders of such rights as they see them.

It has been said of the Jews that they earn like Episcopalians and vote like Hispanics.  Obviously their economic success and connection to Israel are not enough to separate them from the Democratic Party.  The two groups are joined at the hip.

  1. Very good and very worthy piece of work there Ted. Kudos to you.
    During my “finding myself” period, I read a number of books on Sen. Joe McCarthy. “Joseph McCarthy: Reexamining the Life and Legacy of America’s Most Hated Senator” by Arthur Herman. This sparked my curiosity that something was wrong. Reading this lead to my reading of Venona, The Mitrokin Archives and many other books including “Blacklisted by History” by M. Stanton Evans.
    As it turns out, just like every other “ism”, “ist” and “phobe” the entirety of “McCarthyism” was a very well constructed and placed Communist/Socialist propaganda campaign that destroyed an otherwise patriotic and worthy individual: Sen. Joe McCarthy.
    The problem that Sen. McCarthy missed was that those ‘elites’ behind both parties were also behind financing and aiding various Socialist and Communist front groups and other subversive efforts as found by the quashed Reece Committee Investigations into the large Tax Exempt Foundations. Sen. Joe didn’t know Communist/Socialist subversion of all American (Western) edifi was actually far worse than he ever imagined which was confirmed by Venona and later Vasily Mitrokhin.
    We can all see that when Ronald Reagan said “Mr. Gorbachev…Tear down this wall!” it did not defeat Communism/Socialism but greatly unleashed it onto all Western nations because of the Globalist agenda (WEF, IPR, CFR, UN, WB, IMF etc.) have continued to aid and abet their former coordination with Communism/Socialism.
    Whittaker Chambers and Bella Dodd’s works are very interesting from the view of ex-insider Communists as to the inner workings of this mass movement of Sedition and Treason that have been defiling Western Civilization for over 200 years now.
    From a Jewish perspective, I’d suggest Rabbi/Dr. Marvin Antelman’s “To Eliminate the Opiate”…. 😉
    Good piece of writing Ted. Keep up the good work and best in health to you and yours from The Peoples Soviet Republic of Canadakstan

  2. I set in the far east and watched the Arab spring play out. We now know it transformed the middle east. It may have started from the grass roots looking for democracy. But like all grass root movements, democracy has been highjacked. under the guise of democracy, I begin to see that the Arab spring would soon overtake the entire world. I believe we are witnessing it now and it is only going to increase until the powers that be gain complete control of their populations. Then all this evil energy can be turned on Israel. “fundamental transformation”. President Obama Oct. 30,2008 said we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the U.S.A. It then started and will only continually grow for the next 14 months. After that only God knows what comes next.

  3. Hi, fellow Golden Agers. Happy Birthday, Sebastien 🙂

    Reader, you said,

    Then why everyone focuses only on how the JEWS vote?”

    You might have noticed that this site is called “Israpundit”, as in, “Homeland of the Jews”. Ted also noted that Jews and Democrats are joined at the hip.

    As you noted, Blacks appear to vote in astronomical numbers for the Democrats. In Milwaukee County in 2020, more blacks even seem to have voted Democrat than existed!

    When I related my own experience with Communists, I singled out the Jews and Irish-Americans, because they were the most organized and active. Those experiences were in the 1970s, when ethnicity had real meaning instead of being a “virtue signal”.

    Speaking of the ’70s, Edgar, I don’t consider myself to have “grown up” in any significant way until I gave my life to Jesus and gave up leftist politics. That’s why when Ted said he “grew up” in the 1950s, I assumed he was 20 years older than me.

    When I was a youngster of 12, I was really good at math — won a couple of national awards. I used to calculate difficult problems in my head, like Mr. Spock. By and by, Grandpa Time dis his work on me; and now I can’t even do supesudokus., or even some 9 x 9 sudokus. We wither like the grass.

    My second brother-in-law died last week at 88 years. So many of my friends and relatives are passing away lately, I liken the exodus to heaven to Washington’s evacuation of the Continental Army from Brooklyn. We all get into the boat, and row through the fog, and end up in Manhattan (Aaargh! I hope not!).

    Eleven days to the head of the year. L’shanna tovah!

  4. SEB, TED, MiCHAEL, ARNOLD (2018)

    I see all you kids swapping ages like baseball cards, and having a good time doing it. More power and many more years to you all.
    Mazaltov Sebastien, I hope you have a Happy Birthday

    And Michael, 75 from 85 = TEN…. not Twenty.
    What did you say you qualified in. It mustn’t have needed math.

    @Sebastien Zorn

    “Party affiliation by religious group”

    It is a survey (which is another word for “questionnaire”) of the total of 35,000 people from all the 50 states.

    Religion/ % in the population/ vote for Democrats

    Jewish/ 1.9% / 64%

    Buddhist/ 0.7% / 69%

    Hindu/ 0.7% / 61%

    Muslim / 0.9% / 62%

    Historically Black Protestant/ 6.5% / 80%

    Unaffiliated/ 22.8% / 54%

    As you can see, the numbers speak for themselves.

    It seems that the small or threatened minorities (unaffiliated is an undefined mix) tend to vote for those politicians (the minorities think) who won’t try to defund the Social Security and Medicare, etc.

    Then why everyone focuses only on how the JEWS vote?”

    See the whole discussion on (if it’s still there):

    About the accursed commies – let’s have a survey

    Does everyone here prefer 8-hour workdays or 16-hour ones?

    How does everyone here feel about employing children in the factories or mines (a few states are legalizing child labor now – it is so much cheaper than hiring adults)?

    Would anyone like being shot at (to kill, with live fire) during a strike, shot by your employer’s armed guards?

    Please, explain to me why the Jews think that the Nazis are entitled to the privilege of freedom of speech but the commies are not (even though the commies didn’t slaughter 6 million Jews and it was the vile USSR who defeated Nazi Germany – otherwise none of us would be here now (I agree, the US actually won the war))?

  6. @Ted, Michael, Arnold I will turn 64 at the end of this week. Recently, a young man handing out fliers on the street rudely stopped me and asked, “Are you old?” Somewhat annoyed, I snapped, “YES” and kept walking. 😀

  7. Wow, Ted. I feel old at 75, but you’ve got some 20 years on me! Kudos to you, for still being so sharp and productive!

    It has been said of the Jews that they earn like Episcopalians and vote like Hispanics. Obviously their economic success and connection to Israel are not enough to separate them from the Democratic Party. The two groups are joined at the hip.

    Is that a multi-front stereotype? I see so much “Jewish” involvement with everything that’s wrong with this country — from craziness in the social sciences to half of Biden’s cabinet — that it’s all I can do to say these things without being called a Nazi, but you, being Jewish yourself seem able to do this with ease.

    Yes, Jews are “joined at the hip” with our country’s worst enemies (the leftists); but it’s worse than this: to a large extent, through their massive funding an participation in leftist schemes, they ARE our greatest enemies In spite of this, there are some Jews, namely you and Israpundit who, far from being part of the above, are about the only people in the world I can carry on a rational discussion with about these matters. The Christians, for the most part, are so busy being meek and mild and “CC” (Christianly correct) they’re covered with hot buttons one can’s push without being excommunicated.

    Out of fairness to the Jews, I will say that there were TWO groups of people who, in my experience, who gravitated towards leftist radicalism:

    1. the Jews, and
    2. the Irish.

  8. That Jews remained loyal to the democrat party despite all the problems caused by FDR in terms of building a Leviathan federal bureaucracy, and his antipathy towards Jews shown in specific acts of commission and omission as mentioned in your article, means to me that Jews didn’t then and don’t now understand that our country is a constitutional republic, whose founders expressly described a government in the Constitution whose powers were to be only those enumerated. In other words, government of the people by the people and for the people had to have limited government or it would end up controlling the people as it currently does.

    So all these Jews who think they are for equal rights and so on, by supporting the democrat party, they have been supporting the work of people who want power and who want a government rigged to give them power OVER the people.

    That they either do not read history or do not care to understand it is no excuse since most Jews in this country are well educated.

    They are blinded by indoctrination in Communist ideas and slogans, and now are indoctrinated in gender ideology and critical race theory, which teaches the exact opposite of what the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. taught: that it is the content of one’s character not the color of one’s skin that matters. Now they support the notion that white people are inherently bad and people of color are inherently good. This is just the KKK doctrine turned on its head. How can they with any kind of intellectual honesty believe this stuff? How can they join cancel culture and cancel people who believe what Martin Luther King Jr. believed, that ALL LIVES MATTER not just Black lives but all lives.

    Something has happened to these equality loving worker supporting democrats. They no longer support equal rights: they support rights for people of color and no rights if you are white.

    They no longer support workers: just look at the cities of the US run by democrats: all the poor and working class people of the cities live in filth and poverty. But the Jews will support those democrat mayors, yes they will.

    What is going on here? There is no more compassion in the democrat party than in the Soviet NKVD. They have become the party of a police state. You will think their thoughts and believe what they tell you to believe or they will find a way to ruin you.

    No, Jews being loyal to the democrat party makes sense only if you see the intellectual bankruptcy of their support, their lack of any policy suggestions that work to solve the country’s problems, their venomous hatred for a President who actually helped working people of all colors and backgrounds. Whatever it is they are clinging to, it is both pathetic and traitorous to the American experiment.

    … And my greetings to you SZ. I apologize for all the typos in my letter. I remember that there used to be an onscreen edit feature, but Ted Belman must have pulled it.

    How?s about it,Ted. Could some of us old timers talk you into reviving the onscreen edit connection. It would certainly help render comments more readable and less foolish.

  10. I just yesterday arrived at age 84, and even though I intend to stick around for a while, I do a lot of reflective thinking about how I was fortunate enough to escape the traps of mindless liberal and leftist North American Jewish society. After all, one never knows in advance when and under which circumstances one’s life shall end.

    After a lot of deeeist reflection on my life and times, I am fairly certain that it was my father’s family that kept me from falling into escaped from the political and social traps of the leftists. The many Harris boys and men — which almost certainly wasn’t the name their own fathers and mothers were known by in whichever corner in the northwestern segment of the 19th century Russian Empire, made no pretense whatsoever of liberalism, socialism, or any of the rest of that all-too typically Western Judaism. All of my many uncles were born and raised in Davenport, Iowa and across the great Mississippi River in Rock Islan, Illinois.

    All these guys were raied under the truth that they had to work hard for a living, and even harder to establish and grow businesses through which to support themselves and their own children. They had no time for, interest in, or patience with liberal bullshit of any kind.

    My mother’s family were mostly solid leftists. I learned early on to love her but rarely to listen to her or her three sisters in regard to what they thought about politics. Anybody who seriously imagined that former Vice Presiient Henry Agard Wallace could run against Harry S Truman and even win, were not to be taken seriously by the 14-year-old kid I was 70 years ago.

    Most of you who have read my comments on Israpundit over the past years have wondered how a bitter to the core and unapologetic right-winter could consider Iosif Stalin as a hero. My answer is that within the context of the Russian empires — both Czarist and Leninist — and the vast and terrible war that the Russian nation was compelled to endure for 47 deadly months in 1941-1945, only the forceful and unforgiving leadership of Stalin could have raised, held together, and armed the gigantic armies which, after the first six months of Operation Barbarossa, tore out the guts of Hitler’s armies around Moscow, then Stalingrad, then Kursk, and less than two years later, Berlin itself. That man is still among the pantheon of my heroes, and if ever I could travel to and visit Moscow, I would approach his memorial outside the Kremlin wall, and snap a salute to his memory.

    The ACLU is a despicable septic tank infested with self-loathing pseudo Hebraic vermin. It insists that Nazis tormenting Holocaust survivors is “free speech”, but that cartoonists spoofing Muhammad is “hate speech”. The American Civil Liberties Union is merely the Gestapo without the cool uniforms.

    FDR could have greatly impeded the Holocaust by bombing railways, but he did not. Even so, or maybe because of that, liberal Jews adore him. That anti-Semite is the patron saint of American liberal Judaism.

    Liberal Jews are insane. No other group is so fucked up. They are uniquely pathetic.

    @ babushka:
    A very apt description of liberal Jews. I try to stay away from them.

  13. Excellent article Ted! It brought some remembrances from that time and the Jewish leftist beginnings and their reasons and necessities for it.

  14. @ Nigel Shaw:

    The Arab Spring descended into the Arab Fall and now into the Arab Winter of internecine strife.
    Israel is well equipped to deal with all its multifarious threats, and in good time will exercise sovereignty over Judea and Samaria.
    G-d willing the world will witness in the not too distant future, that Israel’s best days are yet to come, and far from being a pariah state, is indeed a light unto the nations.

    A M E N ! ! ! I do hope so!!!!!!!!!!!! :o)

  15. An excellent article well describing the mindset of the Jews during the thirties, forties, fifties and sixties. But isn’t it time now for Jews to come to grips with the realities of the present age? Most liberal/Democratic/Progressive Jews of today were not even around when there was good reason for their politics .

  16. @ Felix Quigley:I like the spirit in which this was written. For the world of me, I can’t remember who I was talking about.

    As for me distorting history, I object. I said nothing about the aims of the Party. I merely commented on man on the street who marched for equality.

  17. Ted

    Some time ago when you were in Toronto you wrote that you visited an elderly distant relative and in the discussion when the name Trotsky came up you said “he became very animated”. He was a Trotskyist. His family was probably part of the Left Opposition to Stalin. He was probably persecuted by the Stalinists. The Trotskyists died in huge numbers in the Stalin Gulag. That he was Polish probebly saved him as was Deutscher.

    The position developed by Stalin that it is possible to have a new society based on one country was a total corruption. the Stalinists became the worst enemies of socialism. In Spain the Stalinist assasinated Andres Nin and all of the key leadership thus opening the door to Franco rule. In America the Stalinist “Communist Party” played the same role and this history is totally distorted by Diana West and also in your essay above.

    So the old man that you visited was a very key person in your extended family. I wrote to you asking that you record his experiences. Because you are ideologically opposed I believe you did not do so. I heard nothing further. Did his memories die with him?

    Your own history has yet to be written. You do not understand your own history and it is getting late Ted.

  18. The ACLU insists that Nazis marching through Jewish neighborhoods is “free speech” but considers cartoonists drawing Mohammad to be “hate speech”. It is an aggressively anti-Semitic organization run by liberal “Jews” who are actually about as Jewish as Mengele’s tuchus. The ACLU is the gestapo absent the nifty uniforms.

    You’re hot tonight, Ted. My blood pressure just hit a new all time high of 18,351.36, thereby equaling the peak of the DJIA.

  19. That seems like a pretty good assessment, Ken, right down to the dates. When you say “extreme left”, though, you might qualify it by saying “extreme RELIGIOUS left”. In 1972, Gus Hall of the Communist Party U. S. A. was a true representative of the “left” in its traditional meaning of supporting workers’ rights, nationalization of major industries, etc. He was, of course, the USSR’s man in America. In 1968, Hubert Humphrey was also an old-school “leftist”, being a strong supporter of unions and a socialist agenda. George McGovern, leader of the “extreme left”, as you call it, of the Democratic Party, did not impress me as being a champion of the proletariat. He seemed to be riding on the tail end of the “antiwar” wave, which had lost nearly all its pep when Nixon ended the draft. From that day, the Democratic party seems to have focused on religious and moral issues, such as promoting adultery, abortion and homosexuality, taking down crosses, creches, and references to Torah, prohibiting prayer in public places, elevating Moslems & Pagans and degrading Christians and Jews, and of course, preaching utopian pacifism and world government (-secular messianism). I have no idea what was going on in Israel at that time, other than the fact that they seemed to be giving away territory like a store doing an inventory close-out sale.

  20. Ted,

    This is the story of my own family as Polish/Russian Jews coming to the Goldeneh Medina in 1949. You gave me the words to explain to non-jews why so many Jews were Socialist/Communist. I have always tried to explain it, but you did it much better. I appreciate it and thank you. Great article….

  21. There are indeed good Jews outside Israel and within.
    They are socialists, right-wing nationalists and religious.
    The sense of frustration and bewilderment expressed by TW is of course understandable, although not helpful and unnecessary.
    Being the son of a socialist and grandson of a Polish communist, I can empathize with the passion to improve our condition, but the counsel of despair is neither justified nor empowering.
    Yet as I see it, our condition is improving in so many ways, if only we step back and view our situation from a more grateful and hopeful perspective.
    The illusion of making compromises to come to a peace agreement with the so-called Palestinians have been well and truly shattered.
    Israel’s economy is flourishing and despite the global credit crunch that is sweeping the world, is set to see a further boost from the recently discovered massive undersea gas deposits, along with the increasing medical and hi-tech advances, which will facilitate the eradication of Israeli poverty.

  22. Once upon a time, the Israel Labor party belonged to a hawkish but still Left wing part of Israel, then in 1977 the party was hijacked by the extreme Left and it’s pro peace at any price fanatics, and the some pretty anti Israeli folks as well.
    The American Democratic Party was once Letist but also pro American, pro Israel, and pro market economy but in 1968 after Nixon hammered them, that party too was hijacked by and turned to the extreme Left and has stayed there. The Democrats have long since jettisoned any pro American feeling, is now a socialist organization, and has become thoroughly anti Israel.
    Israeli Labor and American Democratic are Left, anti American, anti Israel, and socialist and they are not going to change, except maybe to become even more extreme and radically Left.

  23. Ted: I always felt that you were experienced, reasonable, balanced and had wealth of Knowledge and experience.
    Your article was very profound and informative.
    Thank you for sharing.

  24. (SECOND TRY – IT DIDN’T SEEM TO GO THROUGH THE FIRST TIME)

    I don’t dispute any of the above, Ted. But something else is going on at the moment which is hard to define. It affects Jews and non-Jews alike

    – It’s a scientific fact that we don’t always make choices based on reason but on personal and collective emotional motives. Add to that the widespread media and government manipulation of citizens.

    – The issue is not just Jewish support for Obama.

    It’s something much larger that affects the whole United States and Israel.

    – Example: There has been barely a whimper among the population regarding the continuous massive bailouts of international and national financial institutions. Unlike the much smaller savings and loans scandal in the 80s and 90s, hardly anyone has been prosecuted for acts that were clearly fraudulent.

    Why hasn’t there been a popular outcry? The much publicized “Occupy” movement is a joke, an embarrassing performance manipulated from the very start to support Obama or to discredit itself and go nowhere.

    – Example: The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It’s frightening. It obliterates basic freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Both Republicans and Democrats voted for it, just as they voted for the bailouts. And most Americans don’t seem to care. Why?

    ~~~~~~
    – Example: The environmental movement has deceived well-meaning supporters for decades by attacking CO2 instead of nuclear waste and nuclear plant malfunctions.
    There is still a nuclear crisis going on in Fukushima that will affect the planet for millions of years. (For those who want the truth about that site and others, including those in the USA, go to ENENEWS.)
    However, not even this worse-than-Chernobyl event has managed to raise much concern among environmentalists and the general public. Why?
    ~~~~~~~~

    – Example: Israel now has several crucial issues that are being left to become major crises in the future. One of them is border infiltration. Another is government evasion of establishing sovereignty over Judea, Samaria, even Jerusalem!

    – Example: The PA’s obvious terrorist nature – its Nazi past as PLO, its charter, its propaganda, its official and popular glorification of even their most degenerate terrorists.

    None of that has led to a rational reaction on the part of the Jewish population. Some are still in denial. Others are corrupt to the bone and will say whatever they’re paid to say.

    And then, there are good Jews still waiting for things to sort themselves out. They don’t organize and unite to fight the threat to their land and their survival, and to repudiate effectively government empowerment of the PA.

    One has to wonder what’s the difference between Republicans and Democrats at the moment. Other than theatrics, not much. Obama launches wars like the most hawkish Republican would. And keeps filling the pockets of international financial institutions with US money.

    Would a Republican be better for Israel? In what sense? With more friendly tones, but with policies just as destructive as those by Bush Jr.?

    Israel needs to assert itself and not wait for the US to give legitimacy to rights which legally belong to Israel. Such as the right to its heartland, its right to defend itself, its right to be a Jewish country, not a multicultural entity.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    This inertia in the US and Israel seems right out of a science fiction story and is quite alarming. Jews will vote for Obama, others will vote for a Republican, knowing full well that there’s little difference between the two parties. And patriotic Israeli Jews will fail to organize and unite, and will once again vote for Likud and the Netanyahu-Barak team.
  25. So you’re a real Pinko, eh Ted? CNN would have a field day with you, if you ran for office and threatened one of their favorites.
    First of all, you must be about ten years older than me. I don’t even remember the McCarthy stuff. We watched Howdy Doody, Lawrence Welk and Perry Como on TV. I’ve always disliked reading books, as well. All I remember reading in the 50s was an adventure called “The Boxcar Kids” and a story about a mountain man called Jim Bridger. In the early 60s, I read the science fiction books “The Island of Dr. Moreau” and “Red Alert” (on which the movie “Dr. Strangelove” was based). In high school, I read some George Orwell. I flunked English twice, because I refused to write poetry.
    My father left when I was a boy, and my step-father didn’t talk politics. My grandfather was a LaFollette Republican. He was a straw boss on logging crews, and used to secretly obtain ballots for the workers so they could vote for LaFollette (The boss tried to stop that). He was crippled on the job, and ended up working in a rubber factory, where the workers were all getting sick. Having picked up this and that about medicine from doctoring his loggers in the woods, he found out that the vulcanizing agent was the culprit. The workers sued the company; and the company subsequently went out of business and blacklisted the workers. The company officials were shocked that my grandfather had the knowledge he had, being one of their mere “peons”.
    I met Gus Hall in 1972, and voted for him just because I liked him. I had seen McGovern, and he looked pretty plastic; and I didn’t trust Nixon at all (with good reason, as it turned out). Gus shook my hand and even talked with me a while; he gave me the time of day, so I returned the favor. I thought he was a little conservative and old-fashioned; and he certainly didn’t agree with me about the fact that the moose were making a comeback in Minnesota (I liked the idea; but to him, it meant farm closings, and workers losing jobs). The whole country was ga-ga for Nixon then. Two years later, they wanted to tar and feather him. What a bunch of hypocritical jerks!
    Ah, the Commies! And 24.9 cent gas and 2 cent Baby Ruths! Those were the days! O Tempora, O Mores! (Yeah, I read Cicero too — in Latin.)
