In an article posted on Arutz Sheva, Knesset Opposition member and Former Defense Minister, MK Avigdor Lieberman shared his sharp criticism over recent reports about the Palestinian Authority’s so-called “shadow army,” warning that its activities suggest preparation for a large-scale attack against Israel similar to the October 7 massacre. Describing the PA’s buildup as a “Trojan Horse,” he stresses that the threat from PA forces in Judea and Samaria are quite real and he is urging the political leadership not to ignore this threat. Noting that should a similar assault to that which took place in the Gaza Envelope on October 7 come to be unleashed in the West Bank by the PA’s own security forces, the consequences would be devastating. His comments followed an investigation by the Regavim movement, which revealed that the PA possesses over 60,000 armed personnel, a number which stands as being three times the number allowed under the Oslo Accords, and that it is armed with rocket launchers, machine guns, and armored vehicles. The Regavim investigation revealed that PA fighters receive advanced military training abroad, including armor and artillery instruction in Pakistan, officer training in Russia, and tactical parachuting in Italy and Egypt, while training bases in Jordan and Jericho conduct infantry and urban combat drills. Additionally, the report noted further that the PA has 19 armed men for every thousand people, a ratio seven times higher than that of Israeli police, indicating a force structured for offensive operations rather than civilian law enforcement.
