As the United States confronts efforts by an increasing number of Muslim politicians to advance Sharia law, Israel is facing a very similar challenge.
In the documentary Polite Jihad, this Muslim member of Israel’s parliament, Maamsour Abbas, is presented speaking with two distinct voices:
In Hebrew, Mansour Abbas appears pragmatic—a rare Israeli Muslim politician who seems to offer a hand of coexistence.
In Arabic, however, a different image is revealed.
Channel 14’s Arab Affairs Analyst Omri Haim (@HaimOmri) takes a close look at Abbas’ close connections to the Islamic Movement and the Muslim Brotherhood. He argues that Abbas’ long-term objectives are aligned with those of Hamas in seeking to end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state and replace it with a ‘Palestinian’ state governed by Sharia law.
Note that Abbas is the would be coalition partner of the Left, making this revealing look at him all the more substantive and relevant to consider. Part One of Polite Jihad, with English subtitles is below:
