Peloni: Jolani is trying to assert his authority in the south, in the territory which Israel has marked as their area of influence in support of the Druze. Isis affilated Bedouin attacked the Druze, and Jolani moved govt forces to put down the violence, and of course, to disarm the Druze. Israel acted on its threats in defense of the Druze and attacked a govt column of tanks moving into the south. This is likely not going to be enough to keep Jolani out.

Syria is just another failed arab state which will be propped up by the US – Egypt, Libya, Syria, …. who’s next?
The best thing the US could do, would be to seed civil war in those “countries” and let them kill each other off.
Is there some reason, Mahya Tousi keeps calling Syria, “Assyria?” And while I’m on the subject, is there some reason, Victor Davis Hansen keeps pronouncing Curtis Sliwa’s name, “Silwa?”
See my comments on this development in Chit Chat. In my view, a risky move.
I am uncomfortable with the Israelis attacking Jilani’s forces after Trump received al-Jilani in the White House. thereby legitimating him. Also, in view of the diplomatic contacts between representatives of Israel and representatives of the al-Jilani regime,
I am all for protecting the Syrian Druze from their enemies. But perhaps this could be done more discretely by providing them with arms with which to defend themselves. The Druze are good fighters after all.
The British-armed Arabs had more guns than U.S. – embargoed Israel in 1948 for all the good it did them. Moreover, it’s Israel, Al-Julani wants peace with. I’m sure Bibi coordinated this with Trump. Syria is suing for peace and needs to make concessions, not Israel. “Peace through strength.” – Bibi and Trump. If Israel just gave out guns under the table, a skirmish would become a war. This is a continuation of long-standing Israel policy in Syria. Only the opponent has changed. Israel must preserve freedom of activity as the policeman of the Levant.
