The man was not only claiming that Muslims were the real victims of the 9/11 jihad attacks, as many Muslims have claimed before him; he was also lying outright. There is actually no evidence that Muslims were harassed or victimized on a large scale after 9/11. If Mamdani really had had a hijabbed aunt after 9/11, she could have ventured out in New York City without fear. The man knows that his adoptive country that welcomed him and his family, however, is likely only to elect him to office if he plays the victim, and so he does so, with great gusto.
