A new Israel Hayom poll conducted this week shows the Likud and Blue and White almost neck-and-neck, with 31 and 30 seats, respectively. If the small right-wing parties run as a single list, they will scoop up 19 seats – but the Right would still be unable to form a government without Avigdor Lieberman.

The second Knesset election of 2019 is getting off on the wrong foot for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the rest of the right-wing camp, who have a real chance of being voted out of power. A poll conducted by the Maagar Mohot Institute for Israel Hayom shows that without Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Lieberman, the Right will win only 56 seats, five seats short of the minimum 61 needed to form a governing coalition.

However, there was also good news for the right-wing parties: according to the poll, all of them – with the exception of Moshe Feiglin’s Zehut party – are expected to make it past the minimum electoral threshold of 3.25%.

The poll, conducted among a representative sample of 507 adult Israelis with a margin of error of 4.3%, also indicated that whether the parties to the Right of the Likud or the parties on the Left manage to join forces and run as a “mega-bloc,” Lieberman will remain in a position to tip the scales.

It’s hard to look Lamiya Aji Bashar in the eyes. Through them you can see the hell this young Yazidi woman has went through, not to mention her scarred face. The eyes of our Kurmanji translator fill as she translates from this Kurdish dialect into English, proving a little distance from the story of a girl who was taken captive by the Islamic State at age 15. But not enough.

This rare face-to-face meeting took place, surprisingly enough, in central Israeli Bar-Ilan University’s psychology department. Aji Bashar is the only member of her delegation from Iraq who can reveal her face and name. That’s because she now lives in Germany, as part of a special rehabilitation program for 1,100 women and children who survived Islamic State captivity.

That’s the advice a former U.S. Mideast emissary is offering Jared Kushner, courtesy of the op-ed page of Tuesday’s Washington Post.

David Makovsky, formerly the right-hand man to the Obama administration’s top Mideast envoy, Martin Indyk, was given the front-and-center spot on the Post’s op-ed page in order to tell Kushner what he’s doing wrong in his Mideast peace efforts.

There is more than a little irony in the fact that Makovsky presumes to lecture the current U.S. Mideast negotiators, after he and Indyk spent years at the exact same task and completely failed. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Arab leaders have moved on to deal with their real problems and opportunities today, most of which can be more easily addressed with an Israeli partner.

Increasingly, Arab nations in the Middle East are distancing themselves from their Palestinian brothers. The half-century-old solidarity of Arab countries with the Palestinian cause has been diminished recently due to numerous factors.

One of the main factors has been the conduct of the Palestinian Authority and PLO. Add the recklessness and terrorist intransigence of the Hamas regime in Gaza, plus the realities of global economics and politics, and most Arab countries have decided that the creation of a Palestinian state can be put on the back-burner.

Another factor is the passing of pan-Arabism, a political and transnational force in the 20th century, advocated by bygone leaders such as Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. Its passing has been helped along by the so-called Arab Spring, which forced Middle East regimes, from Tunisia to Iraq, to focus on national self-preservation.

As a first step in the new initiative to facilitate the divorce between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, the US administration and Bahrain hosted an economic workshop entitled “Peace to Prosperity” in the Bahraini capital of Manama on June 25 and 26.

The conference brought together governments, global institutions and business leaders to share ideas, discuss strategies and galvanize support for economic investments and initiatives to make a peace agreement possible.

“Peace to Prosperity,” more accurately described as prosperity for peace, constructed an ambitious framework for a prosperous future for Palestinians. If implemented, it will have the potential to open up a whole new future to them.

Sadly and expectedly, the PA preempted this initiative by rejecting the notion of any peace with Israel. After decades of complaints, they have yet again showed their unwillingness to compromise on the political and theocratic dogmas that have held back peace and a better future for their people.

Everybody has heard the Hans Christian Andersen story of the little Dutch boy who saves his country from being flooded by putting his finger in the dike all night, despite the cold, until the adults come and make the necessary repairs.  Well, in the dystopian, Jew-hating world we live in, Europe’s dirty little secret is that Israel is militarily keeping a wave of over 487 million Muslims from militarily attacking into the south-under belly of NATO’s southeast border of Greece, Italy, and South France.

Instead of the “adult” European countries coming to Israel’s aid, they are attacking the only Western country with an army protecting them from a virtually unstoppable military advance by a half a billion Muslims with over 50% of the world’s oil resources.  Thankfully, Israeli PM Netanyahu has just exposed Europe’s secret to the light when he proclaimed: “If Israel wasn’t here, the Middle East would collapse.”  I will add that the 487 Million Muslims of the Middle East would “collapse” right on the South-East doorstep of NATO’s Greece, Italy, and France.  Now that would be true Biblical karma.

Regavim responds to report that Likud thwarted initiative to raise illegal PA construction issue for Knesset discussion.

The Regavim movement to preserve Israel’s national lands and return of rule of law attacked the Likud today following a report in Yediot Ahronot newspaper that the party thwarted a discussion initiated by the movement that was planned to take place in the Knesset plenum on the issue of illegal Palestinian Authority construction.

The background to the discussion is data published by Regavim in recent days, according to which in the past ten years no less than 28,000 illegal Palestinian structures have been built in Area C, the areas of Judea and Samaria under full Israeli control under the Oslo Accords.

According to the report, after the Likud understood that the discussion was about illegal construction committed during Netanyahu’s tenure, Likud MKs who supported holding a special session on the matter were asked to withdraw their signatures.

Despite this day of rage and violent demonstrations by the Ethiopian community in Israel, someone could easily forget that never in human history has there been a similar act of benevolence towards a whole community by a developed nation. Since the 1980’s, despite the immense dangers, the religious obstacles, the logistical impossibilities, the cultural barriers; Israel has brought tens of thousands of Ethiopian Jews from one of the most underdeveloped countries on the globe to the shores of the Promised Land.

These seemingly distant strangers in every way, different even in the color of their skin, have over the past 30 plus years been brought to Israel, not to be forced into servitude as in other periods of human history when blacks where shipped to faraway lands only to become slaves. In fact, there are no other examples of similar acts of kindness in human history that can compare to what Israel has done for the far away Jews of Ethiopia by bringing them, over 130,000 in number today, back to their ancestral homeland, Israel.

The “entartistes” of the 1990s were a group of Quebec-based mischief-makers who threw cream pies in the faces of political and corporate elites. Amongst their victims: Jacques Parizeau, Stéphane Dion, Jean Chrétien, and BMO head Matthew Barrett. Their motto was “You work for us. You can’t be too big for your britches or you’ll get a pie in the face.”

Reaction was divided. Some saw in the campaign only the humour of political satire. Others saw it as low-level terrorism. I don’t find anarchy funny in any form. I imagined being pied as a frightening shock to the victim. Pies — and milkshakes, the current trend, which began in the U.K. with anti-Brexiteers — thrown by light-hearted satirists can act as dog whistles to dark-hearted revolutionaries. If someone can get to you with a pie, after all, he can get to you with acid.

Since that fateful July 4 when the Second Continental Congress invoked the unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to declare independence from King George III, an argument has raged over the Christian roots of the American Founding. Now a group of scholars suggest that if we are looking only to the Gospels to understand the new American nation, we may be arguing over the wrong testament.

“The American Republic,” they write, “was born to the music of the Hebrew Bible.”

The book is called “Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land: The Hebrew Bible in the United States: A Sourcebook.” The title comes from Leviticus and is inscribed on the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. The book comes courtesy of the Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought at Yeshiva University, where it was pulled together by Meir Soloveichik, Matthew Holbreich, Jonathan Silver and Stuart Halpern.
