Could Britain end up with Prime Minister Nigel Farage? On the one hand, we wouldn’t put any more money on it than, say, the New York Times was prepared, on election eve in 2016, to put on Donald Trump. On the other hand, feature what’s happening as Britons prepare to go to the polls to select their delegation to the next European “Parliament.”

That vote is set for May 23. Had Prime Minister Theresa May and her Conservatives honored the Brexit referendum of 2016, Britain wouldn’t have to participate in the blasted EU election. Voters decided, after all, to leave the EU, and a departure date of March 29 was all set. Mrs. May, though, betrayed the referendum. And now Britain has to elect a delegation to sit in the EU “Parliament.”

In that election, the party polling at the head of the field is the Brexit Party. It was founded at the last minute by Nigel Farage. He’s the former head of the United Kingdom Independence Party who led the campaign for Britain to return to being a sovereign country. In the aftermath of his victory, though, he quit UKIP because it was taking on a xenophobic tone.

Iran’s top priority is to preserve the rule of the ayatollahs, so if the U.S. is prepared to back threats with military action, it will agree to a better nuclear deal from President Trump.

The developing tension between the U.S. and Iran in the Persian Gulf comes as no coincidence. Since U.S. President Donald Trump pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal and restored sanctions against Iran, he has had a clear goal in mind – to topple the ayatollah regime and dismantle the axis of evil.

Last decade, former President George W. Bush declared the ties between the nations of the Fertile Crescent an “axis of evil.” Later on, after the 9/11 attacks, he took action to smash that axis, which included striking a fatal blow to al-Qaida and the Taliban; bringing down the regime of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein; and because of the U.S.’s incorrect approach to creating stability after the Iraqi Baath regime fell apart, it all stopped there.

In Tehran, regime officials are worried that the pressure applied by the U.S. administration is meant to expedite regime change, not just curb Iran’s nuclear and hegemonic ambitions in the region.

The battle over the future of Iran has intensified in recent days. The U.S. has amplified its economic sanctions against the Islamist regime, namely waiving the remaining exemptions for certain countries that were purchasing Iranian oil; declaring the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization; prohibiting heavy metals imports from Iran; and disallowing Iran from exporting excess low-grade enriched uranium and heavy water, which it was permitted to do within the framework of the nuclear deal. Incidentally, the license was granted so that Iran could produce these materials without stockpiling them in larger quantities than stipulated by the nuclear deal. The U.S. has also begun moving forces to the Persian Gulf and closer to Iran.

Israel’s envoy to Berlin welcomes statement as ‘clear signal’ of country’s determination to enhance Jerusalem’s standing in international fora

Germany on Saturday said it was deeply troubled by anti-Israel bias at the United Nations and vowed to oppose “any unfair treatment” of the Jewish state in international fora.

The statement, issued on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Israel’s accession to the UN, was welcomed by Jerusalem’s envoy to Germany, Jeremy Issacharoff, who said he hoped it signals a change in Berlin’s voting pattern vis-a-vis the Middle East. Germany’s voting record on Middle East issues has been criticized by Israel and its supporters, as the country often joins other European nations in voting against Israel’s interest at the UN.

“Seventy years ago today — 24 years before the Federal Republic of Germany’s admission to the United Nations — Israel was admitted to the UN as a full member. The Federal Government would like to take this 70th anniversary as an opportunity to reiterate the fact that Germany stands at Israel’s side in the UN, too,” the English-language statement by Germany’s Foreign Office said.

A key institute run by the American Jewish Committee, one of the largest Jewish advocacy organizations in the world, continues to maintain ties with the leader of a Danish party that recently joined a new European-wide far-right alliance.

The alliance – which includes Matteo Salvini’s anti-immigrant League party in Italy, Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally in France and the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) – was formed in anticipation of the European Union parliamentary elections later this month.

The Likud and United Right parties’ negotiating teams drafter a 16-section document detailing the reforms the upcoming government is expected to make to the legal and justice system.

According to Israel Hayom, the new coalition will pass the Override Clause, allowing the Knesset to reinstate laws overturned by the Supreme Court. The clause will be based on the Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty.

Another section details changes in how judges are appointed, making the government the body responsible for choosing judges and adding a hearing before their appointment.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: A recent report indicates that President Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner suggested that then Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and other policy makers read a January 2018 Wall Street Journal piece regarding the cutoff of American funding for UNRWA, the international agency for Palestinian ‘refugees.’ As authors of the piece referenced in the leak, we are flattered. With the administration’s much discussed peace plan to be announced in June, let us offer some last minute suggestions.

Information regarding President Trump’s “plan of the century” is vague, with Kushner and other administration sources saying only that it will require “compromises from both sides” and that in the words of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, it will “represent a significant change from the model that’s been used.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo canceled a trip to Berlin this week and instead made an abrupt visit to Iraq.

There he met with the Iraqi Prime Minister and President to brief them on the latest U.S intelligence regarding threatening behavior from the Iranians.

Up to this point, it has not been publicly disclosed what intelligence personnel believe the Iranians are doing that has administration officials concerned. There are unconfirmed reports that Iran may be moving short-range ballistic missiles onto boats in the Persian Gulf.
