Peloni: Yishai Fleisher details the strong support which was shown for Israel by many of Trump’s key appointees. It is pivotal to recognize, however, that as Trump’s administration supports Israel and condemns Iran, it remains notably silent on any condemnation of Qatar, a fact which Fleisher does raise in regards to Rubio, but should be understood to be true of the entire administration. Qatar is far too well considered by people who should have a far greater awareness, criticism and outrage of the role played by Qatar in keeping the hostages in Gaza, and this includes American citizens as well as those of Israel and many other nations. The slaughter of October 7, and the subsequent murder of the hostages seized that day, which again include that of American citizens, are the work product of the terror subsidizing Qatar. Hence, rather than including people with views and interests which are sympathetic to Qatar, Trump’s administration should have been staffed with those who would have recognized the corrupting power and influence which Qatar projects around the world and throughout the US, and the considerable danger this influence portends for America and American citizens. The integration of Qatari supporters into the current administration will come to play a key conflict of interest for Trump’s administration, particularly as Trump is taking steps to fundamentally reshape the Middle East, which should be reshaped without the input and corruption of Qatar. Qatar is not an asset to the US in this or any context, as it remains a mortal enemy of the US, Israel, and the entire Western world.

Did you know that moving a few miles to temporarily get out of the way of gunfire constitutes an “exodus”?
I didn’t either until I read the appalling headline on the front page of The New York Times on Feb. 18: “In West Bank, Israel’s Tactics Cause Exodus.”
Peloni: Israel, like any other rational society, should cast her vote according to her national interests. While voting alongside the US, Israel acted with a sense of responsibility and some might even suggest reciprocity, as it is Ukraine which has routinely and repeatedly cast its vote against Israel time and time again, notably alongside Russia with far too great a frequency. Furthermore, as the US and Europe stand at odds over the topic of Ukraine, Israel should look to her own interests, and those interests are not aligned with the pro-Hamas stand which has been a running feature of much of Europe over the past 18months, and this includes Ukraine, who still calls for the creation of what would be a Pal terror state in the ancestral lands of Israel, despite the example of October 7 for what that might portend. Relatedly, as Israel has sent no aid or material support to Russia during the Ukraine conflict, Ukraine sent Hamas a ‘humanitarian flour shipment’, even as it this Ukrainian nation remains incapable of funding its own war or even its own govt without the material support of US grants and European loans. Ukraine is no ally of Israel, and any alliance with Europe should be understood to be far more qualified than what exists between the US and Israel, especially since the return of Trump to the White House.

Israel voted against a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for an “advanced, comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine,” aligning itself with the United States, Russia, and 15 other nations. The European Union shared the voting breakdown on Monday, revealing that 93 countries supported the resolution, while 18 opposed it.

Why has the world forgotten about the babies burned in ovens in front of their parents on Oct. 7, 2023? Or about parents brutally executed in front of their children?

There is only one reason why the ancient art of ransoming Jews has been reborn in the modern era, and it is because the ransom is being paid. Instead of responding to this barbaric practice as the Galut Jews were forced to do, Israel should instead hunt down the kidnappers with extreme prejudice, in real time, and with such devastation that it is clear that the raison detre of the Jewish State, namely to act to defend the Jewish people as needed, is being fulfilled. Instead, paying those who kidnap, murder and abuse our people for their arts of depravity will only see that such depravity becomes a wider industry in our age…and this can not be permitted.

Regarding Israel’s inherent right to survival and self-defense, pertinent law is fully clarifying and exculpatory. While the harms inflicted by Israeli counter-terrorism operations are collateral to international law-enforcement, the harms perpetrated on Israeli civilian hostages by Hamas and kindred jihadists are invariably the product of intentional law violation. Inter alia, it was improper for the International Criminal Court to issue coinciding arrest warrants for the Israeli prime minister and leaders of Hamas. On its face, this ICC-declared symmetry was political and contrived. It was not in any way jurisprudential.
Peloni: Much of what Pollard asserts should be done is accurate, but his analysis of Bibi’s career being built on failure after failure is not just harsh, but unbalanced, unfair, and I would suggest inaccurate. Nonetheless, the time for inspired action is at hand and Bibi should seize the advantage which is now before him.

My instinctive response to the insightful question raised by Dianne Bederman in her essay, “What would King Solomon do [notably in regards to the dilemma of the hostages held and tortured by Hamas]”, is to recall that, while making his judgement over the fate of the child claimed as the son of two women, Solomon was dealing with a simple dispute between two parties, each of whom were his own subjects, and neither of whom represented an existential threat to his reign nor to the whole of his people. Indeed, judicial decrees which seem reasonable and relevant in the context of civil disputes, or even those of a criminal nature, should not be understood to be well disposed towards being applied to international affairs involving existential threats to both a single nation nor to civilization itself, as is objectively and honestly the reality being considered as to how best to deal with the threat extending from Hamas towards Israel and Western Civilization. In fact, Solomon’s decision was based on the grasp of human psychology in determining the single truth of which woman was the child’s mother, the solution of which would not affect anyone beyond the relevant parties and the child in question.

With the IDF still occupying a buffer zone in southern Syria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went a step further on Sunday and demanded that the new Syrian government commit to keeping its forces out of southern Syria.
“We demand full demilitarization of southern Syria from the forces of the new regime. Also, we will not tolerate any threat to the Druze community in southern Syria,” Netanyahu said during a speech at the graduation ceremony for new IDF combat officers.

In recent years, segments of the American left have embraced militant Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, Critical Race Theory (CRT), Marxist ideologies, and policies that exacerbate societal divisions. This shift has, at times, fostered antisemitic sentiments, as observed in rhetoric from certain college campuses, organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Jewish Voice for Peace, national unions, civil rights groups, and members of the “Squad.” For instance, a recent report from StopAntisemitism revealed that 72% of Jewish college students in the US feel unwelcome, with over half having faced antisemitism.
