Peloni:  Even amid war, the celebrations which define and characterize the Jewish state are not set aside.  Among these one of the most relative celebrations is the, unification of, and Jewish connection to, Jerusalem.

Despite ongoing challenges, Jerusalem Day unites Israelis in joy and remembrance of a pivotal moment in Jewish history.

In recent days, Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas made a rare visit to Lebanon, during which he declared the need for Palestinian weapons – specifically those held in refugee camps and by Palestinian factions in the Land of the Cedars – to be handed over to the state. According to a report that aired on Kan Reshet Bet on Monday morning, the driving force behind this move is Saudi Arabia.

Peloni:  The quote included in this essay by Gen. Lee has always been one of my favorites, since I was a young.  In fact, war is the undoing of society such that society might be preserved, and the more terrible the war, the more lasting will be the resulting peace.

I noticed something years ago about class descriptions on college campuses. If a course’s subject matter included the word “war,” it was much more popular with students. A seminar on “organizational theory” might find a few takers; a seminar on “military organization and war planning” would attract too many students for most classrooms to hold. I asked a professor about this once, and he grinned slyly, reminding me that young professors who teach popular classes have greater career prospects. The observation struck me as a bit perverse.

Peloni:  From the Nova concert on October 7 to the Amsterdam Jew Hunts of November 6-7, 2024 to the Washington Jewish Museum murders on May 22 and now back to Europe once more.  The hatred and hunting of Jews must be faced and defeated.  Jews who have the ability to arm themselves must take full advantage of training and protecting themselves, and the authorities must step up to provide their Jewish citizens with support and protection.  But most of all, the citizens of the world must come to grips with knowing that they face a choice between living like civilized people or revisiting some of the darkest moments of world history as have be heralded by the rekindling of antisemitic fervor, which has made itself known in every age, but never before with such a resoundingly internationally global effect, as if from every corner of the world.  In fact, it is the neighbors of the hunted and attacked Jews who will determine how successful and how well tolerated the current wave of global terrorism being raised against the Jewish people will come to be.

Switzerland, long seen as a bastion of peace and neutrality, now finds itself in turmoil. In a frightening escalation, a coalition of radical pro-Hamas agitators  and their far-left useful idiot activists reportedly attempted to storm the main synagogue in Bern, to kill Jewish worshippers.

Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger, “Second Thought: a US-Israel Initiative” | May 13, 2025

*47 years of US negotiation with the Ayatollah regime suggest that US policy makers have been impressed with the, supposedly, pragmatism of Iranian negotiators. However, while the US considers agreements with the Ayatollah regime and its proxies (e.g., the Houthis, Hamas, Hezbollah) a step toward reconciliation and peaceful coexistence, the Ayatollah regime considers negotiation as a step toward the realization of its ideology – a global domination of all walks of life by Shia Islam, headed by Shia clerics.

We all heard about the Muslim Australian nurses who boasted about hoping to kill and refusing to treat Jewish patients unlucky enough to come under their care. We in America, though, shouldn’t feel smug because we have the same antisemitism problem brewing here. Because we’ve imported doctors from foreign countries, we’ve also imported their loathsome pathologies. And what’s even worse is that we’re producing American-educated doctors who are just as bad.

As I write this, one of my sons is deep inside the Gaza Strip, fighting shoulder to shoulder with his fellow Jewish warriors. A soldier in a historic, fateful campaign to eradicate an evil that has plagued our people and threatened our borders for far too long.

And this week, something shifted.

For the first time since October 7th, we are seeing the full force of the IDF surge forward.

President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza is simple: Banish all the Palestinians from that enclave. Rebuild what remains of it into an American Riviera on the Mediterranean. (Simple is not bad, at least not according to Occam’s mighty razor; if there are two explanations out there and one is more complex, the other is to be preferred).

As can be expected, this elegant and eminently morally justified proposal has come under a barrage of criticism.

Iran is shoring up ties with its neighbors as it continues talks with the US over its nuclear program. This is important for the Islamic Republic because, if there are any rising tensions, it will want the support of countries such as Turkey, Iraq, and Pakistan.

It is these countries that Iran has been doing outreach to in recent days.
