Rowell:  I frequently hear progressives complain that their side needs “better PR.”  American progressives, who will not criticize the policies they and their politicians espouse, often think their only problem is one of “PR.”  If Israel has a PR problem one possibility is that it is due to progressives embedded in the military and intelligence brass who actually believe the Palestinian PR against the State of Israel!  How can they be counted on to be of help with PR when their raison d’être is to undermine the democratically elected government?  The author blames “right wing” politicians for going off message for political purposes when right wing politicians are very ON message, and it is the progressives who are constantly undermining the Likud for political advantage.  Nevertheless it is a useful exercise to think about how Israel could communicate more effectively with the people of the world.

Israel can improve its PR game greatly.

Israel needs to do better in the public relations war that it is fighting concurrently with its war against Hamas in Gaza. It is losing in the international court of opinion. Here is what it can do better.

Hamas, an evil Islamist terror group, has an outstanding PR machine that has corrupted and co-opted much of the international media and world leaders to do its bidding. Israel’s efforts have been ham-fisted.

We media strategists are like poker players; we must play the hand we have been dealt. Despite being the victim of a savage attack, and holding what would be the high ground in any morally sane universe, Israel started with five structural disadvantages.

A few days ago, I met an Israeli soldier, a paratrooper — tall, lanky, dark-skinned, unassuming, simply dressed, kippah-wearing, and originally from Tiberias, on the western shore of the Sea of ??Galilee in northern Israel.

He was stationed in Gaza for some 120 days, and after a one-month break, he will be back there in a few weeks.

THE past few years of electoral results across Europe have confirmed, without a shadow of a doubt, that Europe is swinging right, from Hungary, Italy and Greece to Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland. “I was deeply moved and honored. I don’t do it for awards or anything. It was enormously moving to be honored for my work. I don’t see myself as a PR soldier, just as a writer and as a journalist. I think it’s very important to see things with your own eyes, and that’s always been my policy as a writer. That’s all I’ve tried to do. I guessed early on that the world would spend very little time concentrating on the massacre. The next day people were celebrating the massacre in Times Square in New York. I thought right then that I’ve got to get there as soon as I can because I thought they’ll move on to Israel’s response.”

In exchange for establishing diplomatic relations, Jerusalem will lift its opposition to the world’s largest Muslim-majority country joining the OECD.

Israel is set to normalize relations with Indonesia, the largest Muslim-majority country in the world, Ynet reported on Thursday.

The move comes after three months of secret talks between Jerusalem and Jakarta. In exchange for establishing diplomatic ties with the Jewish state, Jerusalem will reportedly lift its opposition to Indonesia becoming the 39th member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Army says overnight Air Force sorties targeted dozens of terrorist sites above and below ground north of Nuseirat before 162nd Division troops began a targeted operation in the area

The IDF on Thursday launched a ground assault in the central Gaza Strip, near the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Following a series of unusual strikes overnight and the bombing of a tower block in the morning hours, the IDF announced that the 162nd Division began a targeted operation in the area overnight, noting that fighter jets and drones attacked dozens of terror sites above and below ground.

“Prior to the entrance of the troops to the area, IAF fighter jets and additional aircraft struck terrorist infrastructure above and below the ground in the central Gaza Strip,” a statement read.

Israel must complete the task of eradicating Hamas from Gaza. If it fails, that will only lead to never-ending cycles of murder and mayhem, with Hamas continuing to be a threat to Israel’s population and national survival. Israel must not succumb to calls for a ceasefire, although US and world pressure is currently mounting, and a pullout of Rafeh is on the table.
