In Israel, we’re slowly seeing the country emerge from one of the darkest times since the Holocaust. Evacuees are returning to their homes in the South as the threat from terrorists in Gaza is being eliminated. The transformation from darkness to light is reflected in much of last week’s news.

The dark days of displaced Israeli families have been made a little brighter thanks to donations and kind hosts. A wounded Fauda TV star has been able to see the light of day after being discharged from hospital.  A Hamas terrorist emerging from a dark tunnel shaft with a bomb was seen just in time. And from the dark despair after seeing Hamas murder his wife, a brave, stateless Bedouin and his nine children can have a brighter future as permanent residents of Israel.

T..Belman. Natasha is absolutely brilliant. She convincingly points out how misinformed the House of Commons was when it passed a resolution in support of a ceasefire. The House debate embraced propaganda and blood libels against Israel as though they were the truth. What a farce.

On December 29, 2023, referencing the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, South Africa instituted proceedings against the State of Israel in the International Court of Justice (“ICJ”). In its Application to the ICJ, South Africa alleged that Israel, through its acts and omissions, breached and continues to breach the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (“Genocide Convention”). South Africa’s Application also contained a Request for the indication of provisional measures “pending the [ICJ’s] determination of the case on the merits.” (Application of Convention on Prevention and Punishment of Genocide (S. T. Belman.  I disagree with Pollak.  Although Israel has said that if Hezbollah pulls back, she will be satisfied. Israel believes in pre-emptive action. What better time is there for Israel to attack Hezbollah to destroy it, now that Israel is mobilized and 80,000 Israelis have been evacuated.

Withdrawal will not suffice to get Israel to teturn to normal. Just as Israel finally bit the bullet with Hamas, she will bite the bullet with Hezbollah.

After all the false alarms, the crisis of British democracy is finally here. The cause is not a nebulous concept like “disinformation” or a prime minister getting ousted by her own party in less time than it took a head of lettuce to brown, as was the amusing case with Liz Truss in 2022. The actual democratic process has come under assault, and London is buckling under the pressure.

This all came to a head on Wednesday. Now there is full agreement across the political spectrum on what happened and why. The unanswered question is whether the “Mother of Parliaments,” as England’s contribution to democracy is known, will do anything about it.
