A reader needs very serious analytic skills to read a news report

This article offers a partial guide to cutting through the lies, deceit, and deceptions of what liars and truth-tellers alike call “Journalism.”

1. The Source: Any article on Judaism, Israel, or other Jewish issues that originates from the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) should be assumed ab initio, unless proven otherwise, to be extreme-left-propaganda against normative Orthodox Judaism and against centrist or conservative political perspectives. The same is true for reports and op-eds originating in Forward and often Times of Israel. Also Hebrew publications like Maariv and Yediot Acharonot (Ynet).

Summary: Challenged at the domestic level as the public questions its legitimacy and protests their deteriorating economic conditions, the Government of Tunisia (GOT) has recently been warming up to Israel by expanding its intelligence sharing and cooperation with the Government of Israel (GOI). JaFaJ has confirmed that Israeli officials have already visited Tunisia to discuss further cooperation as their Tunisian counterparts promise a peace deal “at the right time.” Nonetheless, Tunisia is one of many Arab countries holding secret ties with Israel. The GOT may be just seeking leverage from the Israelis during these challenging times for Tunisia. Hence, the sudden GOT warmth towards Israel may not translate into a peace agreement, much less a functioning sustainable peace between both countries.

As the Knesset continued to discuss the bill to reduce the reasonableness standard ahead of the vote in its second and third reading later in the day, anti-government and anti-judicial reform demonstrators attempted to block the access routes to the Knesset.

According to the Kaplan protest group, they carried out a “siege on the Knesset – for the first time in the country’s history, all four gates to the Knesset are blocked.” Israel National News has learned from the Knesset that despite this, one of the entrances remains open, and MKs can enter through it.

It’s legacy media hysteria time again: news outlets from The Washington Post to The Atlantic hyperventilate about what they spin as the latest scandale. Presidential candidate RFK Jr made comments at a dinner about ethnically targeted bioweapons. Mainstream media commentators claim that these comments are in themselves antisemitic.

Some articles are going back in time, cherry-picking remarks RFK Jr has made in the past about the Holocaust, and about other aspects of historic totalitarianism, to strengthen the case for imprinting the “Anti-Semite” label forever on Mr Kennedy’s candidacy and campaign. With the (now AI-driven) global smear campaign in full mode, we see the way that bad press today quickly becomes circular and self-referential.

Former US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman took to Twitter on Sunday to express opposition to the Israeli government’s push to pass legislation to reform its judicial system.

“Given the striking parallels between Israel’s current internal rift and the infighting that caused the destruction of the Second Temple 2000 years ago, why would the Israeli Government proceed with its Judicial Reform bill on the eve of Tisha B’Av? Very bad timing,” the former ambassador wrote, referring to the destruction of the second Jewish temple, which occurred on the 9th of the month of Av which falls out this Thursday.

President Isaac Herzog’s task in Washington was as straightforward as it was delicate. With two dangerous fissures emerging – between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and between government and opposition supporters back in Israel – Herzog’s visit offered a timely opportunity to craft bridges across the chasms.

Initially, it seemed that Herzog might have succeeded in keeping Washington and Jerusalem from drifting any further apart at the very least.

Israel should also consider the West’s criticism of its policy toward Ukraine, its relations with the countries of the Indo-Pacific region, and that China and Iran signed a strategic agreement. Former New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who currently heads the Americans Against Antisemitism organization, has officially announced that he is leaving the Democratic Party and changing his affiliation to the Republican Party.

“IT’S OFFICIAL: My wife and I have switched our party affiliation from Democrat to Republican! People have long been asking, ‘Dov, when are you gonna leave the Democratic Party? Well, the time has come because the Dems have turned their back on Jews & Israel, so it’s officially done!” Hikind wrote.

In the end, only nine House Democrats voted against a resolution refuting the smear that Israel “is a racist or apartheid state.” Still, the decision of all but the bitterest opponents of the Jewish state to swallow hard and vote for a measure that targeted one of their leaders shouldn’t be interpreted as a sign that things are well between Israel and the Democrats. To the contrary, the discussion about whether Israel is “racist” speaks volumes about the delicate balancing act that Democrats are attempting to pull off as they navigate towards the 2024 elections.

The focus of this struggle is on the judicial system, which in recent decades has assumed significant power that has been used and continues to be used to directly affect the character of the state. Both sides of this battle understand the importance of defining the role of the judiciary – on one side are those that have taken to the streets to demonstrate against any changes to the system, and on the other side are the majority of the people who voted for and repeatedly expressed their support for amending the judicial system.
