“The key to democracy is alive and well in Israel.” That is a powerful and true statement by Allen Dershowitz. Yet, Dershowitz spoke out forcefully against the left for trying to undercut the Israeli economy with extortionary techniques. There is nothing at all about the Supreme Court reforms which have anything to do with the Israeli economy. But Israel’s left has shown that it has no red lines as far as how it has handled its protests of the judicial reforms.

Islamic terrorists are getting money, manpower and territory from the White House.

At a press conference, Biden falsely claimed that Al Qaeda was no longer operating in Afghanistan. “I said al Qaeda would not be there. I said it wouldn’t be there. I said we’d get help from the Taliban. What’s happening now? What’s going on? Read your press. I was right.”

In reality, Al Qaeda is operating training camps in six provinces, including Helmand, which hundreds of Marines had been killed and wounded trying to secure during Obama’s surge. The 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment lost 25 marines, including the son of former Chief of Staff John Kelly, and suffered 34 amputations. 378 Marines were killed and 5,000 were wounded.

T. Belman. Friedman said in his NYT piece  that Biden is “questioning why the US should defend Israel in international forums like the United Nations and the International Criminal Court.”  This the first sign that the Biden admin is looking for ways to punish Israel.

The only reason the ICC has potential jurisdiction to indict Israel for war crimes, is because it ruled that Palestine was a state contrary to reality. The US did nothing to reverse that ruling. And now the US probably instigated the EU Parliament to make such a statement. Not that the EU parliament needed any prodding.

Ukraine has started shelling civilians in the Donbass again.  That is clearly a war crime but if you are waiting for the ICC to prosecute, don’t hold your breath.

The European Union (EU) Parliament on Thursday adopted a statement in support of an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague into possible war crimes by Israel in Judea and Samaria, according to Haaretz.

The statement expressed the EU’s support for the ICC’s investigation into “war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

PHILADELPHIA – July 13, 2023 – Middle East Forum leaders yesterday joined Knesset members from both the ruling coalition and opposition, Israeli government ministers and security officials, and members of the U.S. Congress in re-launching the Knesset Israel Victory Caucus (KIVC) in Israel’s 25^th Knesset, and calling for new strategies to defeat Israel’s enemies.

The Forum presented KIVC co-chairs MK Ohad Tal (Religious Zionism) and MK Evgeny Sova (Yisrael Beitenu) with its Gaza Victory plan, a major policy paper authored by Brigadier General (res.) Yossi Kuperwasser that challenges Israel’s passive “mow the lawn” Gaza policy and lays out a plan for Israel Victory via military, economic, and cultural initiatives. The Caucus will focus its efforts on implementing the plan.

T. Belman. Elliot Abrams blames the Whitehouse interference on pressure from the Israeli Left and the American Left. He fails to mention that even without such pressure, the Whitehouse has no compunction against criticizing Israel.

The Biden administration continues to interfere in Israel’s internal debate over the role of the judiciary, most recently adding unfair criticism of how demonstrations are being handled by police.

Shortly after amending the text of a controversial bill to outlaw judicial oversight over the reasonableness of government and minister decisions, Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee chair MK Simcha Rothman tells the panel that the new “wording does not open up additional fronts.”

The updated bill text specifies that the High Court of Justice cannot intervene to force a minister to exercise their authority, or in appointments made by the cabinet or its ministers.

Attorney Dr. Yona Cherki from the Center for Israeli Immigration Policy said Wednesday that the current Israeli government is continuing policies put in place years ago to maintain immigration from Ethiopia, expanding Aliyah to include potential immigrants who claim to be descended from Jews forced to convert to Christianity.

According to a new poll from Brown University’s student paper, the number of students that identify as part of the LGTBQ+ community has doubled since 2010.

38% of students at the Ivy League school identified as homosexual, bisexual, queer, asexual, pansexual, questioning, or other than heterosexual. That number is five times the national rate for adults that are part of the community.

The raising of the issue of a constitution as a potential way out of the political impasse over the future of Israel’s legal system is nothing but a red herring on the part of the opponents of judicial reform.

American Jews are overwhelmingly Democrat in orientation. They’re also, sensibly, extremely worried about antisemitism. The problem is that these same Democrat Jews are blind to the fact that antisemitism is the growing rot at the heart of their own party.

There are lots of reasons Jews are leftists. The main reason, probably, is that American Jews are dedicated to college degrees. There were already jokes in the 1930s showing a lady smiling down at a brand new baby swaddled in a white blanket and asking, “So, what is it? A doctor or a lawyer?” For American Jews, the journey from shtetl to tenement to the middle class was a short one if you could see your son (and, later, your daughter) through college. They are one of the most credentialed religious groups in America.
