One needn’t be a Biblical scholar to accept that the Bible is oftentimes a precursor for current events.
Despite those who would call some who believe it contains a roadmap for the timeline of mankind, fools, many clearly see its ability to predict life thousands of years after its inception.
The coincidences are startling at times, many perhaps not, but often there is a clear path from past occurrences to the present.
Is this merely owing to the fact man is nothing if not predictable? Let’s face facts, the behavior of the human species neither varies nor evolves. Thus, it could be reasonable to say the way we acted thousands of years in the past could be a forecaster of present behavior. So maybe not so magical after all. Still, many others see unmistakable patterns in events that repeat themselves.
I’m not quite certain if it is one or the other, a coincidence or some plan to which man is not privy but forced to carry out.
I don’t claim to be a Bible scholar, but I do have a certain amount of knowledge.
Much was gleaned from childhood education and the rest from a natural curiosity about all religions, their similarities, differences and effect on their followers.
I admit to having more knowledge concerning Judeo-Christian beliefs, although I have always been captivated by Hinduism.
Yet what has any of this to do with the current state of world affairs?
If like me you believe perhaps a great deal, it isn’t difficult to draw a line between the past and present.
That is what I have done recently and surprisingly that line darkens and becomes wider each day.
So although some might mock my conclusions, and they are certainly free to do so, I strongly believe the Jewish people are once again in a Golden Calf Moment in their history.
I am referring to the Golden Calf incident at Mt. Sinai when Moses went up the mountain to receive the Laws.
Sadly, the children of Israel were left alone without decent babysitters. Noone to prevent them from getting into serious trouble.
I fear history is repeating itself because the kids are acting up again. If they don’t stop their naughty behavior there is going to be a whole lot of wandering in the desert and baking matzoh for them.
Building a golden calf doesn’t mean I’m inferring someone in the jewelry district of New York City is melting down gold to make an image of a farm animal. It is a spiritual unbuilding to which I refer. A distrust in the miracle they received from the creator. To once again escape Pharoah and find safety in their own homeland. Instead of patiently awaiting Moses’ return, they are acting up and misbehaving in pretty bizarre ways.
May I offer a few examples? They should be praying for victory in the war against their destroyer, Iran, a war that will soon end and bring with it a peace unseen in the region. One that will permit Israel to thrive and live in harmony with its Arab neighbors.
Allow children to play in the sun instead of bomb shelters, give parents peace knowing their families are safe from the threat of annihilation.
Yet almost half of Israel is not content to wait for Moses to return. For Netanyahu to fight the war against the modern Haman and bring peace. Instead, they are building a golden calf which as with Moses will anger God and bring about punishment and retribution.
Israel may be destroying its outer enemies, but the enemy within its own walls is raging out of control.
They are a country divided. A people in contention with each other, themselves and their neighbors.
Recently, in New York City 33% of the Jewish residents voted for Mayor Mamdani. This, despite the fact he publicly called for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. Despite the fact his wife has openly and brazenly shown gleeful support for Israel’s enemies.
This is symptomatic of the great schism in the soul of Jewish people. It’s between those who have become globalists, even at the risk of the demise of their children and themselves, and those who remain loyal to the basic tenets of Judaism.
This split lives both in Israel and the Diaspora.
Each Jew that voted for Mamdani added another layer to the Golden Calf. Every Israeli that marches against Netanyahu and the IDF to empower the enemy, pours more gold onto the future cow.
So why do the Jewish people have a psychosis in their DNA that causes memory loss and a desperate need to prove they are great global citizens?
Despite the fact it is a system that globally hates and wishes to eliminate them.
Perhaps we are a people suffering from an incurable case of Stockholm Syndrome?
I’m not a psychiatrist, just someone who notices blatant similarities in our history. In all human history.
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” was written by Spanish-American philosopher George Santayana in his 1905 book, The Life of Reason. Are the Jews the only people that easily forget and repeat mistakes? Heavens no. But the consequences for them seem to be harsh beyond belief.
The Jewish people possess a history of warnings about what it will mean to repeat behavior. Yet they don’t see or accept these cautions.
There are many examples cited in the Bible of the Jewish people misbehaving and God inflicting punishment.
For a people believed to be intelligent, they don’t seem to learn or remember the past very well.
So what does this current bad behavior among the Jewish people signify?
I of course am not a seer or psychic. However, I do have a memory and it retains the lessons I’ve read in the Bible and in history books.
If the Golden Calf continues to grow in size and features, there is no doubt in my mind there will be some wandering and punishment in our future. The Jewish people are always held accountable for their bad behavior.
I have no idea when or what it will be, that’s way above my paygrade.
I just know we have been blessed to return to Israel and rebuild our homeland into a thriving land of milk and honey.
It wasn’t all the Jews at Mt. Sinai that acted ungratefully and sinfully, but it didn’t take the totality. If we are judged to be ungrateful once again, then the battle to ensure peace and contentment will have been for naught.
Until we get our priorities straight and learn from our history we are doomed to suffer for the misbehavior of a wrongminded group.
This is our generation’s Golden Calf Moment. I pray we become clearly focused on our behavior and mistakes. The Jewish people owe their children and grandchildren peace and stability in our own land. To ensure a strong Israel, that our ancestors suffered so much to rebuild.
Permit me to close with a very wise phrase from the Old Testament attributed to King David. “He who troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind.”
The wind is blowing pretty strong in our direction my fellow Jews, better heed the storm warnings before the calf is complete.
