Israeli expats are returning to Israel due to economic benefits, including tax breaks, according to a report presented to the government on Sunday. According to the statistics, from May 2010 to Sept. 2012, 29,679 Israelis returned home.

During a similar period from 2007 to 2009, as part of a program known as “Returning Home on Israel’s 60th Birthday,” 29,568 Israelis made their way back to the country.

Programs designed to lure expats back to make their homes in Israel once again are based on financial benefits packages, including tax breaks, Hebrew language training classes for their children, professional advice and orientation, help with job placements and more.

Immigrant Absorption Minister Sofa Landver commented on the statistics on Sunday saying, “This is a success for the government and country.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “The program met its goals at minimum cost and every returning citizen is a unique contribution to the development of our dynamic economy.”

  1. I suspect a lot are returning home because Israel’s economy is actually growing and will grow even faster once the natural gas starts flowing next year.

The economies of Europe and the USA, by comparison, stink. Only Canada is doing well.
