Today I had a remarkble interview with @Mudar_Zahran (Secretary General of the Jordanian Opposition Coalition) living in exile in the UK. With his links to intelligence agencies he provided incredible insights into the Gaza ceasefire and an optimistic outlook for Israel & Jordan pic.twitter.com/ZNq3WUVfbt

Mudar Zahran is a Jordanian Palestinian politician living in exile. He heads the Jordanian Opposition Coalition. He previously served as an economic specialist and assistant policy coordinator for the U.S. embassy in Amman. Zahran is a Ph.D. in political science — the Arab-Israeli conflict.

I can understand those who, judging by past performance, assume Mudar Zahran is talking but not capable of making any of his claims happen. Perhaps you are correct.
I find his view of what is going on at the ground level very helpful. He has an overview something one cannot gain from even objective news sources. Perhaps it is his familiarity with the intelligence agencies and access to classified information that informs his statements.
Perhaps it is also the fact that he has family members who are Muslim and family members who are Jewish. That gives him an unusual perspective.
What I took from the interview was his statement that Hamas will eventually disarm and/or become unable to commit any more massacres, i.e. the support for Hamas has been taken out from under Hamas, the Arabs that previously have supported Hamas are not going to support them being armed terrorists.
Secondly he sounds clear about the fact that there will be a Palestinian state in Jordan, within one or two years.
The reason this did not happen before now is that before now Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar all supported Hamas even though Egypt and Jordan did so “secretly,” although Israel probably had intelligence indicating that Egypt and Jordan as well as Qatar were supporting Hamas. But until these countries were brought into the peace deal, they were going to continue supporting Hamas and thus dead Jews would be the result.
If the peace deal holds, Hamas is done. Whatever happens in Gaza, Hamas is done and whomever is in charge of Gaza has committed to no violence against Jews or Israelis. Keeping the peace will mean making sure there is no Arab on Arab violence nor Arab on Jewish violence.
As much as I might want to see this man’s success, I think we’ll be hearing him talking in the same fashion five to ten years from now.
Just don’t see it.
