U.S. officials in Ukraine to push for renewed peace talks

Peloni:  For an explanation for why the renewed push, we need to grasp the reason why Potrovsk finally fell, and why the next campaign is likely to be far quicker than the last one:  As I noted previously, Ukraine lacks men, munitions and morale, and the US is currently in an election cycle which prevents any possibility of significant support for Ukraine.  Meanwhile, reports of the criminal nature of the Ukrainian govt, even amid its desperate situation in this war, never seems to go away, and are tied quite closely to Zelensky, himself.

      AI Overview

In Pokrovsk, Russian forces have not been “thrown back” but instead have advanced into the city and are engaged in intense street fighting. Ukrainian forces are mounting counterattacks to repel Russian assaults and hold defensive lines in the northern part of the city, but the overall momentum appears to favor the attacking Russian forces.
      Current Situation Summary
Donetsk City: Russia has had full control of the city of Donetsk since October 2022. The current fighting is centered in the surrounding region, particularly further west around Pokrovsk.
Pokrovsk: The situation is critical and dynamic. Russian troops have infiltrated the city using small-group tactics and now control parts of the center and southwestern areas.
Ukrainian Defense: Ukrainian forces are fighting block-to-block and repelling numerous daily assaults to prevent a full Russian capture or encirclement of their units, particularly near the neighboring town of Myrnohrad.
Russian Objective: Russia aims to capture Pokrovsk, a vital logistics and railway hub, as a major step toward taking the remaining large cities in the Donetsk region still under Ukrainian control (Kramatorsk and Sloviansk).
Casualties: Both sides are reportedly suffering heavy casualties, with Ukrainian officials claiming that Russian troops are being “ground down” in the battle, while Ukraine is also committing significant reserves to the fight.
While Ukraine has launched local counterattacks to slow the Russian advance and keep supply routes open, military analysts suggest that the fall of Pokrovsk is a potential outcome if new defensive lines are not adequately prepared further west. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) currently assesses that Russia will likely complete the seizure of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.

My comment: Maybe they were thrown back in Do etsk and Pikrovsk.
I’m reminded of: “That’s Minsk not Pinsk. Totally different.” from Billy Wilder’s “One, Two, Three.”
