    • Hi, Laura. You said,

Not that I’m against it, but why is it so necessary for regime change in Venezuela but not so in Iran?

Venezuela has been in the US sphere of influence since 1823. Iran is part of the perpetual squabbling in the Middle East — for the most part, not our business. Of course, Iran is a “strong” ally of Venezuela, but at the moment, it isn’t very strong.

You are mistaken to suggest that Iran is not America’s “business”. Iran is more than an ally of Venezuela, as it is integral to the drug trade which exists throughout the Western Hemisphere. Removing Iranian influence from the Western hemisphere is essential to American dominance in its own backyard, just as it is essential to remove Chinese influence. Regime change in Iran could have already made the task regarding Iranian presence in Central and South America easier, but Trump failed to do so, likely for a number of reasons, none of which were in America’s long term interest IMO.

Regime change should never be entered into casually, as it comes with many potential and unpredictable consequences. This being stated, the Mullahs threaten the entire Western civilization, and have their tenterhooks of terror throughout all of Europe and the Western Hemisphere, and as Trump has thus far failed to remove this threat, root, stem and leaf, he has made America less safe for his efforts.

  1. I don’t think Trump will do anything but bluster. Maybe some token bombing of Venezuelan military outposts, but that will be all. And Russia won’t do anything beyond evacuating their tourists. There is no way that Putin will risk a direct military confrontation with the nited States. That is all Russia needs. The two “superpowers” have a long history of making dire threats against each other. But neither has ever acted on these threats. They are rhetoric and bluffing.

If America actually invades Venezuela, of course Maduro and his soldiers will resist with all their might. But I don’t think they will have to.
