NGO Monitor recently released a study of the infiltration by HAMAS into that swarm of NGOs inside Gaza ostensibly concerned for the humanitarian welfare of the “Palestinian refugees.”
Working for HAMAS were employees of Oxfam and Medical Aid for Palestinians. The director in Gaza of Catholic Relief Services was affiliated with the PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine), founded by the fiendish Greek Orthodox convert to Communism Dr. George Habash, infamous for his numerous skyjacking and bombing of commercial airliners.
It is a report that might be subtitled “World of Lies” because all components of the relationship are not what they seem; Lewis Carroll, who imagined “Wonderland,” might understand, George Orwell too.
The basic lie is that the beneficiaries of this aid provided by these scores of NGOs are “Palestinian refugees” when there is nothing about these people that is “Palestinian” and none of them were ever refugees. What’s going on here?
A little history is in order. The history of the Gaza Strip began with the invasion by the Egyptian army in 1948 of little Israel on the day it declared independence in order to kill lots of Zionists and loot the wealth they had created over almost a century of bringing the land back to life.
But also at the moment, there were hundreds of thousands of Arab migrant laborers in the country from all over Araby who, because they were mostly illiterate and lacking all immovable property to worry about, ran from the fighting, with some 200,000 running behind the Egyptian column coming up the coast. For sure, none were “Palestinian” in any way.
A ceasefire was declared and a line drawn around the invading Egyptian army, the sheltering Arab migrant workers and “Voila!” the Gaza Strip was born.
And since the invading Arab states uniformly refused to accept responsibility for these fellow Muslims – they blamed the U.N. for allowing the Jews to have their freedom after 14 centuries of Koranically-enforced “oppression and humiliation” of them which ignited the war — so the U.N. was responsible for their welfare.
Enter UNRWA and the rest of is history.
Hence, for the first decade following Israel’s war of independence, the whole world, including the U.N. and all the Arab and Muslim states referred to UNRWA’s beneficiaries generically, as the “Arab refugees.” Nobody called them the “Palestinian refugees” because there was nothing “Palestinian” about them. They were a mixed bag from all over the Middle East.
However, in 1959, the reigning Egyptian pharaoh Gamal Abdel Nasser, president as well of the Arab League of States, in an annual conference raised the idea of renaming these “Arab refugees” the “Palestinian entity” al-kiyan al-filistini and the rest is history.
For five years already, Nasser had been supporting the FLN terrorists in Algeria in their gruesome atrocities meant to drive the French out who had ruled there since 1830. Nasser let FLN operatives use Egyptian radio to broadcast propaganda and send coded messages to comrades in Algeria, allowing these operatives as well to smuggle weapons into Algeria across the Sahara
Nasser had also been witness to the Muslims there having the wits to publicly forego any religious motivation to their rebellion – even though in their own minds they were waging Jihad. Instead, they couched their propaganda in language pleasing to leftists in France. They were not mujaheddin/holy warriors but freedom-fighting patriots at war with Western imperialists.
And so Nasser wanted to rebrand the war against Israel as a war of national liberation too. Enter the “Palestinians.” It is a commonplace in Israel that the Soviet KGB gave the Arabs the idea of inventing the “Palestinians,” which seems to rely on a single statement by Ion Pacepa, former head of Romania’s KGB, in his book “Red Horizons, which underestimates the Arabs. They were inventive and clever enough to have come up with this deception by themselves, and in any case, Muslim Arabs needed no lessons in Jew-hatred from the Russians.
There must be scores of NGOs in Gaza ostensibly there to help the poor, poor primeval “Palestinians” driven from their ancient homeland by the nefarious Jews but this too is a lie. The “Palestinian cause” is just the latest mutation of the age-old hatred, a successor to the Christian deicide charge and the racialist Nazi and anti-capitalist Communist vilification of the Jews.
After the Holocaust, above-board homicidal Jew-hatred went out of fashion; taking its place were pity for the “victims of Zionism,” the “Palestinian refugees,” whose cause such as the Rockefeller Foundation and antisemitic Henry Ford Foundation were only too happy to support.
The invention of the “Palestinian nation” was just the latest wrinkle in the oldest hatred that always manifests as belief in the Jews engaged in monumental evil. The Gaza Strip became the latest, indirect way, of bleeding Jews by supporting Arabs who wanted to murder them.
Over time, thanks to PLO terror strikes in numerous countries, Arafat & Co. got many of them to support the “Palestinian” doctrine that the identity of “Palestinian refugee” passes to his children and grandchildren, etc. until the “Palestinians” are allowed to return to their ancestral sod in modern-day Israel.
There is nothing more normal in history than wars and the refugees they create who seek asylum in foreign lands and over time assimilate into their adopted countries. Time and actuarial tables see to it that every generation of war refugees ceases being refugees and disappears into history. My grandparents were refugees, but their children born in America were not, and I their grandson am not a refugee either.
Versus the “Palestinian refugee” population, unique in human history, not for diminishing over time but burgeoning and growing from year to year.
“Alma dishikra.” There is nothing Palestinian about anyone person who claims to be a “Palestinian,” and especially not the Arabs in Gaza. It is a national identity lacking all content to this identity. In what way are “Palestinians” Palestinian?
What Israel needs to do but never has is declare war on the lie these people are “Palestinians” and entitled to support from the world community. Israel needs to campaign for the fifty-six officially Muslim states to assume responsibility for their co-religionists in Gaza who voted for the Muslim Brotherhood and committed unspeakable crimes. They must be pressured to send ships to the Gaza coast to take their soul brothers away and end the endless violence between Gaza and Israel.
So long as there are masses of Muslims in Gaza, there will be attempts to murder Jews next door in Israel. No other solution will produce peace.
