Should Trump insist on Iranian regime change? Debate with Jonathan Shanzer | Prove It! with Batya

Peloni:  Jonathan Schanzer, Executive Director at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, joins News Nation’s Batya Ungar-Sargon in a debate about the importance and possibilities of regime change in Iran.  Focus on about 20 minutes of the conversation starting around 10min mark.  It is interesting that Batya’s position vs that of Jonathan calls to mind an article posted by Amit Segal earlier this week which describes the contest between the IDF brass and that of the Mossad where the former feels the ultimate goal is dealing with Iran’s nuclear program and the latter believes the focus should be maintained on regime change.  As Schanzer explains, the very problem with an agreement to eliminate Iran’s nuclear program today, while preserving the current regime, would face the same impossible challenges as did Obama’s JCPOA, which was what Trump has railed against since before entering politics ten years ago. Arguments of domestic US economic costs along with fears of Iranian civil war fail to address this pivotal flaw in the arguments opposing regime change, both from Batya, but also from the IDF leadership.  Jonathan and the Mossad stand squarely correct in calling for regime change in Iran being fundamental goal of the war.
