Janet Levy: Anti-Israel Conspiracies Are Being Used to Shield the Chinese Communist Party.
Clearly, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) benefits when the narrative portrays Israel, rather than China, as the primary threat to the U.S.
Just as all social media is manipulated by foreign and domestic bots, purchased likes and retweets, etc., the content on the “formerly” CCP-owned TikTok has been amplified or suppressed depending on whether it aligns with Beijing’s interests. The TikTok influence campaign is ultimately designed to delegitimize America.
The Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) reports that pro-Israel hashtags on TikTok were underrepresented by a 6.2-to-1 ratio compared with Instagram.
A report from the Institute for National Security Studies found that Chinese cyber campaigns spread antisemitic messages to U.S. audiences, alleging Jewish and Israeli control of American politics, ahead of the 2024 election.
There is a direct parallel between the social media environment and pro-Palestinian campus protests. It’s no accident that within hours of the October 7th Massacre, disruptive protests against Israel began on U.S. campuses and elsewhere, justifying Hamas’s attack.
Freedom House reported that China Central Television (CCTV) aired a segment asserting that Jews control 70% of the wealth in the U.S.
Chinese state-run media broadcast false claims that Israel used white phosphorus against civilians, using photos from Syria’s Bashar al-Assad’s war against his own civilians.
CCP bots have promoted the Epstein conspiracy theory, citing his spurious links to Israeli intelligence.
Critics of the CCP are recast as Israeli agents, then targeted as proxies for Israel and as proponents of “Zionist” control.
The bottom line: If Americans lose faith in their political system – believing it is captured by a nefarious entity – Beijing stands to benefit.
Welcome to the information battlespace.
