Citing repeated Hezbollah ceasefire violations, Netanyahu orders strikes on terror infrastructure in Beirut

Peloni:  In recent hours, Iran has predictably taken to threatening its ‘ceasefire’ which exists with the US.  This attempt to reassert the linkage between the war in Lebanon with Israel and the war in Iran with Israel and the US is significant.  It was a strategic error for Trump to have granted the linkage between these two fronts to Iran as the basis of his negotiating tract, and having the non-ceasefire finally collapse in Lebanon, it would be an ever greater error to acquiesce to Iran’s demand that this linkage be restored.  So we will see who blinks first, with either Iran ignoring the renewed assault on Beirut or with Trump renewing the linkage between the two fronts.  Notably, the Lebanese government has been playing its regular role of acting as Hezbollah’s toady, even as it can offer nothing but empty promises of doing more than the literally nothing it has repeatedly done following its many regular promises in the past.  It is time for this ruse to end.  Some matters can only be solved by war, and the case in point of dealing with the Armageddonist terrorists in Iran and its various proxies is clearly such a matter.

Netanyahu says ‘no situation where Hezbollah threatens our cities, but Beirut is safe’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday morning that he ordered the IDF to strike Hezbollah targets in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut, following “repeated and ongoing violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon.”

“In response to the repeated and ongoing violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon by the terrorist organization Hezbollah and the attacks against our cities and citizens, I have instructed the IDF, together with Defense Minister Israel Katz, to strike terrorist targets in the Dahiyeh district of Beirut,” Netanyahu announced.

“There will be no situation where Hezbollah attacks our cities and citizens, and the terrorist headquarters in Dahiyeh will remain out of bounds,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.

Speaking at a ceremony for the changeover of the security commissioner at the Defense Ministry, Minister Katz said, “The law of the Dahiyeh in Beirut is the same as the law of the northern communities in Israel – if there is no peace in the north, there will be no peace in Beirut. We will not allow a reality of harm to our communities and citizens while peace is maintained in Beirut.”

Since the start of the Iran ceasefire, Israel has largely avoided striking Beirut, at the request of the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, in an attempt not to disrupt negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Meanwhile, Iran continues to link progress in the ceasefire negotiations with the U.S. to the Israeli operations in Lebanon.

“We insist that a ceasefire in Lebanon is an essential condition for any deal aimed at ending the war,” foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said at a briefing Monday morning.

Videos shared to social media in Lebanon showed residents fleeing the southern district of Dahiyeh ahead of anticipated Israeli airstrikes.

Lebanese media reported disruptions in GPS systems in various parts of Lebanon, following the announcement by Netanyahu and Katz.

Israel has expanded its ground offensive over the past few days, taking territory north of the Litani River, and even capturing the historic Beaufort Castle, amid constant Hezbollah drone and rocket attacks on northern Israeli communities and IDF troops in Lebanon.

The Israel Air Force is expected to carry out strikes in Dahiyeh as soon as the targets have been approved, Hebrew news site Maariv reported. One of those targets is reportedly Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, who recently threatened civil war and attacks on Lebanese leaders, if the Lebanese government proceeds with attempts to disarm the terror group.

The IAF already increased airstrikes on several areas in southern Lebanon over the past couple days, including the coastal city of Tyre, as Hezbollah attacks have continued despite the ceasefire.

Additionally, the IAF will likely target facilities connected to Hezbollah’s rocket and drone programs, in an attempt to disrupt the terror group’s ability to attack Israeli territory.

Soldiers in the northern border area have been instructed to avoid unnecessary daytime movement, while remaining in protective equipment at all times, Maariv reported.

Meanwhile, Lebanese media reported that the government has begun earnest diplomatic efforts with U.S. counterparts in an attempt to prevent the Israeli strikes.

On Monday morning, Hezbollah launched more than 5 rockets from Lebanese territory towards northern Israeli communities. The IDF said it intercepted two Hezbollah rockets, with the others falling in unpopulated territory, while the Israeli Air Force intercepted a suspicious aerial target in an area where IDF forces were operating in southern Lebanon.

The IDF said it killed three Hezbollah drone operators in a strike Sunday.

The terrorists were reported to be preparing drones for an attack, when they were hit by the Israeli airstrike.
