Peloni: The absurd nature of being attacked by Iran while still calling America and Israel as its enemy offers a snapshot into the mindset of the Islamist ideology on which the Jordanian leadership stands. This is why it is so important for the Trump designation of the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates to be fully implemented, in Jordan, across the region, and most obviously within the American homeland as well. This ideology is not compatible with US interests any more than it is with Israeli interests. Jordan is a hotbed of Islamist radicals which need to be defunded, even as the king has attempted to protect these allies by pushing them to simply change their name in a familiar strategy to avoid the consequences of the Brotherhood Ban. Trump’s Muslim Brotherhood Ban has an important role to play in stabilizing the region, but it needs to be air tight in its application for it to have any substantive effect at all. What Avi Abelow explains below is correct, the letter calling for the removal of US forces from Jordan is a warning, and one which the US and Israel both need to be mindful as to import of the message being broadcasted.

As Iran escalates its attacks on American military bases in Jordan, one might expect the Jordanian public to rally behind the U.S. forces helping defend their country.
Instead, more than one hundred Jordanian public figures, academics, and activists have signed a public letter demanding that the Jordanian government expel American troops, abandon its military partnership with Washington, remain “neutral” in the conflict between the United States and Iran, and refocus attention on what they see as their true enemy, Israel.
Think about the absurdity of that.
Iran is firing missiles at Jordan. American forces are helping intercept them. Yet these influential Jordanians are more concerned with fighting Israel than confronting the regime attacking their own country.
This is the reality too many in the West still refuse to accept.
The cries of “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” come from the same jihadi Muslim worldview. Israel is not the final target. We are simply first. As the jihadi Muslim saying goes: “First the Saturday people, then the Sunday people.”
King Abdullah understands this. He knows the American military presence helps protect Jordan not only from Iran, but also from the Sunni jihadi forces waiting for an opportunity to seize power.
But today’s letter exposes a deeper truth: while Jordan’s government cooperates with the West, significant currents within Jordanian society view Israel, not Iran, as the primary enemy.
Ideas matter.
Peace treaties alone cannot overcome an ideology that teaches hatred of Israel and the West. This is not merely a political conflict. It is an ideological and religious one.
Israel has already learned this lesson the hard way. Gaza. Southern Lebanon. Syria.
Every time jihadist forces establish themselves on Israel’s borders, we are eventually forced to fight to remove the threat. But military victory alone is not enough.
If we simply clear out the terrorists and then withdraw, history has shown exactly what happens: the jihadists return to fill the vacuum.
Lasting security requires more than a military presence. It requires permanent Israeli control, the application of sovereignty, and thriving Jewish communities established alongside the soldiers defending them. A civilian presence anchors the military presence. Without it, political pressure eventually leads to retreat, and retreat invites the jihadis to the next war.
We can not assume the Jordan Monarchy with a peace deal with Israel will be different forever.
For that reason, I believe Israelis must begin thinking strategically about the long-term future of Jordan. The 1917 Balfour Declaration envisioned the establishment of a Jewish national home in the territory on both sides of the Jordan River before later British decisions separated Transjordan from the original Mandate framework. Coupled with the Jewish people’s biblical connection to the land east of the Jordan, that historical context should not be ignored when discussing the region’s future.
If the Hashemite monarchy is ever overthrown by jihadi forces, Israel’s quiet eastern border will become our next frontline. When that day comes, Israel will have no choice but to liberate as well to protect Israeli citizens, just as we have been forced to do elsewhere.
That is why this letter matters. It is not just another political statement. It is a warning.
The lesson is simple: believe people when they tell you who their enemy is.
When Iran attacks Jordan, yet influential Jordanians still point to Israel and America as the real enemy, we should listen carefully.
Ignoring the growing voices of jihad, across the Middle East and increasingly throughout the freedom-loving world, has never brought peace. It has only postponed the day when reality can no longer be ignored.
In Israel, we cannot afford that mistake. We must keep our eyes wide open, understand the ideological enemy we face, and prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead.
Pretending the threat does not exist has never made it disappear.
And yet, despite the challenges, I remain filled with hope.
The Jewish people have returned home after 2,000 years against every law of history. We have witnessed miracle after miracle in our generation. I believe God is guiding us through the long process of redemption, pushing us to fulfill our national destiny in our ancestral homeland.
Our responsibility is clear: strengthen our faith, strengthen our national resolve, and be ready to act with courage and wisdom to fulfill our national destiny when history calls upon us.
