ALO is a company headquartered in Beverly Hills, California, a community with a large and longstanding Jewish population.
I find ALO’s decision to make Bella Hadid a prominent face of its brand deeply disturbing.
Bella Hadid has taken numerous anti-israeli public positions concerning Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that have generated serious controversy and have been widely criticized by Jewish organizations and members of the Jewish community as antisemitic or deeply insensitive toward Jews. Whatever her intentions may have been, ALO cannot be unaware of this controversy, especially when Louis Vuitton stopped using her
That raises a very simple question: why would ALO knowingly make this choice?
The situation is even more concerning in light of the issues previously raised publicly by StandWithUs. The organization called on ALO to investigate reports concerning an Israeli customer who allegedly received a package containing anti-Israel and anti-Jewish messages. I am saying that, ALO should be especially sensitive to how its decisions are perceived by Jewish and Israeli customers.
Instead, ALO has chosen to prominently associate its brand with Bella Hadid at a time when her public positions remain highly controversial within the Jewish community.
I find that decision profoundly disappointing
Customers of conscience believe that ALO has made a serious mistake, they can be heard by choosing not to patronize the company.
ALO made its choice, customers have many different brands from which to choose.
