Mark opens his Saturday, August 23  show with a look at the state of America and presents a positive outlook going into the midterms.  He ends his show with an interview with John Woo, the former clerk for SCOTUS Justice Thomas, about the open assault on the constitution of the United States.  Yet, Mark’s interview with his first guest, Dr. Sheila Nazarian was perhaps the more compelling segment of the show.

Nazarian describes her family’s escape from Iran as a child and shares that many Iranians simply want to experience the democratic norms  and freedoms enjoyed in America. She emphasizes that the current regime uses the fear of Iran being divided up by America as the means by which to hold support among many of Iran’s people and, consequently, she challenges that regime change should be the goal pushed by the current war while respecting Iran’s territorial integrity to eliminate any substantive support for the survival of the regime. She also indicates that the wealth of the Iranian elites who hold control over the country should be targeted in what should come next and that the Iranian people should be supported in opposing the regime.

The discussion next turns to the role played by China in supporting Iran’s economy and the difficulty which will be coincident with the strengthening economic pressure on Iran without raising prices for Americans. She additionally notes that the Iranian regime cannot simply be contained, but rather regime change in Iran is what is needed.  The conversation ends by highlighting that the choice in the Middle East for America remains to be whether Iran will come to be seen as the region’s dominant power or if instead, this role will be filled by America’s democratic ally Israel.

The truth is that this choice for has been evident for some time now.  This is why Obama and Biden sought to raise Iran to a state of dominance in the region, so as to not strengthen the US-Israel bond which reenforces American strength in the region and around the world.  This fact is also why, in his first term in office, Trump sought to do the opposite, using maximum pressure on Iran while expanding the Israeli-American relationship to greater heights.  Of course, today, the torch of support for Iran in this contest between Israel and Iran is now being carried most ardently by Tucker Carlson and his coterie of Iranian talkshow host toadies as America approaches the coming pivotal US midterm elections.

So we will see how the American people respond in November, that is, if events do not overtake this choice being considered in the upcoming election.
