PELONI: The timing and context of the American withdrawal from Iraq could not have been staged to benefit both Iran and Turkey, just when this should have been the last possible end goal intended in the aftermath of American presence in Iraq. The reflections of the radicals in the region is that this US withdrawal amid its contest with Iran could hardly be understood to have been conducted from a position of strength. This will not make American interests more secure in the region, but just the opposite as its allies too are watching this move which leaves the twin centers of radicals, ie Tehran and Ankara, in a far stronger position than they were just a few days ago, specifically because of the US withdrawal amid a still yet to be stabilized situation in Iraq. As Dr. David Wurmser explains, the war in Iraq was largely a war against Iran, and declaring mission accomplished there at this time was a geopolitical owned goal, even as it might be seen in Washington as a political necessity with the coming US elections. Nonetheless, ignoring the political needs of the moment, the shifting sands in the Middle East stemming from this withdrawal under these conditions will be seen to have an unfortunate consequence for US interests in the region going forward.
