In a wide-ranging interview about his new book, Why I Left the Democratic Party and So Should You, Alan Dershowitz provides an exceptional description of the growing threat which is rising in the Democratic Party in a recent interview with Bennett Ruda.

He describes this threat as being characterized by its growing embrace of Jew Hatred while noting that this embrace is just a symptom of  a far more wide ranging malady within the Democratic Party which threatens far more than simply American Jews and supporters of Israel.  Indeed, as Dershowitz explains the current trend in the Democratic Party, with which he has had a strong affiliation since he was a teenager, endangers the broader principles on which the entire American democracy is founded and on which the principles of liberty are practiced.  He notes that in recent years, there has been a fundamental transformation taking place within the organization which has led the Democratic party from its traditional advocacy of liberalism and political moderation towards now being being increasingly influenced by hard-left ideology, identity politics, and hostility toward Israel.  The consequence of having abandoned its traditional commitments to liberalism, meritocracy, and political moderation replaced by identity politics and hard-left socialism has led to the Democratic Party fostering support of growing discrimination which is being normalized against Jewish and pro-Israel students and faculty members. This in turn results in the foreboding understanding that when politicians can gain votes, when activists can gain influence, and when businesses can gain attention, all by simply embracing anti-Israel rhetoric, the incentives which would otherwise normally restrain prejudice are weakened, which ultimately leads to acts of Jew Hatred forming something of a litmus test for advancement in and support from the Party, noting that “If you want to win a Democratic primary, you have to be an antisemite.”

He also raises attention to the fact that he still considers himself to be a “Fetterman Democrat,” ie someone who remains faithful to fighting for their principles, unwilling to bend to the yoke of animus growing in the Democratic Party to win its support.  Dershowitz notes that Fetterman will be face being challenged by an anti-Zionist and will likely lose in the primary, but will also likely have a much better chance of winning in the general election running as an independent.

There is much more to be found in this conversation with Dershowitz, and I encourage people to read the full interview here:
