PELONI: Contrary to what is being reported by Shas as fake news, he simple reality is that the Haredi parties have no where to go but to the Left as the High Court has demonstrated it will crush any negotiation with the Haredim by Netanyahu. Yet, for a deal to be made, the Left will have to pay a high price to the Haredim, and the resistance to doing so is all that stands between the Left and forming a govt. There is a strong pressure on both the Haredim and the Left to strike an agreeable accord, but it remains to be seen if they actually will do so. This was the consequence of using the results of an impaired govt which advantaged both the Left and the anti Zionist Arabs. While it was advantageous to have the Left expose their duplicitous nature to the public in hopes of a new govt, the formation of a Left-Wing–United Torah Judaism Government was always the most likely scenario.

Translation:
I hope no one in the prime minister’s circle is buying Shas’s denials from last night. Several political figures in Shas and United Torah Judaism told me last night: if there is a conscription law that satisfies the rabbis, Shas will back either Eisenkot or Lieberman too. (Shas claims there won’t be such a law, but it’s unclear whether this conclusion stems from sound analysis or is merely wishful thinking.)
Clarification: Shas claims that the breakdown of results by polling station shows that it was the traditionalist-right-wing public that abandoned Shas in the election, while those who stayed are the Torah-observant. Therefore, Shas will first and foremost do what is best for the Torah-observant.
And another point: the right has no chance of forming a government without the Haredim in the Netanyahu era. So statements along the lines of “we won’t be beholden to the Haredim anymore” make no impression on the Haredi parties.
That’s the situation, unfortunately.
