Canadian Public Broadcasting Suspends Jewish Journalist for Reporting on Muslim Synagogue Attack

Every time you hear leftists go on about ‘freedom of the press’, remember they don’t believe a word of it. They’ve had no problem pushing for censorship of opposing media outlets and targeting them between 2016 and 2021 in the United States. They’ve hounded even the most moderate journalists out to make way for radicalizing papers. They’ve spent the past few years insisting that Bari Weiss, a liberal lesbian who voted for Obama, is a right-wing monster who should never be heard and hounded her out of the New York Times.

This isn’t freedom of the press… it’s narrative control. The goal is to consolidate messaging by suppressing everyone else. And especially suppressing ‘news that should not be reported’.

A CBC journalist at the Canadian public broadcaster committed the cardinal sin of reporting the kind of harassment that has been normalized against Jews in Canada.

Now he’s in trouble.

CBC has pulled a veteran journalist off-air – and hit him with disciplinary action – simply because he filmed a protest taking place outside a Jewish religious service earlier this week.

Neil Herland is an award-winning senior CBC journalist and producer with three decades’ of experience reporting news across North America.

On Monday evening, Herland was walking to a Yom Kippur service near where he lives in Toronto. The synagogue service was being held at the Meridian Centre at Yonge and Sheppard Sts. in Toronto by The Song Shul, because a large number of congregants were expected.

Upon arriving, Herland and the other Jewish attendees saw about two dozen protestors blocking the entrance to the synagogue service, waving Palestinian flags and yelling epithets and abuse. The mob yelled “free Palestine” and “Zionist alert” when Jewish congregants came near.

Herland started filming.

One man, wearing a mask, repeatedly yelled “You’re going to Hell” using a bullhorn pointed at Herland and others. Another man screamed “baby killer.” Elsewhere, a woman was called an “ugly Jewish bitch” – and, when the cantor at the service went outside and smiled at a protester, another yelled: “The Jew smiles while he kills babies in Gaza.”

A Toronto Police officer told the cantor to stop “antagonizing” the protestors.

In his post on his personal X account, Herland writes: “I’m a journalist. And I happen to be Jewish. On Yom Kippur I went to a synagogue service in Toronto and was met by protesters trying to taunt and intimidate me from entering the building.”

Nobody is covering this story outside conservative media because the entire purpose is to prevent anyone from learning about this sort of thing. Herland broke the omerta and now a message is being sent.

This is the same CBC where an Egyptian Muslim boss barred references to 9/11 as a terrorist attack.

This week, I received a memo — presumably confidential — addressed to CBC News staff. It is authored by one Basem Boshra, who is the “Senior Director of Journalistic Standards and Public Trust at CBC News.” In Boshra’s memo, reporters are editors are told this:

“Do not refer to the Sept. 11 attacks as terrorist attacks.”

Boshra states that all in bold letters, italicized, as if to emphasize the point. To make clear it is a directive, not a suggestion.

It goes on. “The hijackings led to passenger jet crashes,” it reads, again in italics. There is no recognition in the CBC memo — none — that “hijacking that leads to passenger jet crashes” is not a protest, or a vote. It is a terrorist act, full stop.

Spot the pattern if you will. Don’t mention Muslim terrorism. Don’t mention Muslim harassment or intimidation. Just keep on talking about how terrible America, Canada and Israel are, and how we oppress Muslims.
