Amid a report that she is PM Netanyahu’s preferred candidate to succeed Ofir Akunis as Israel’s next consul general in New York, International Affairs Advisor to PM Netanyahu Caroline Glick appeared on an interview on JNS to discussed Israel’s war with Hezbollah in Lebanon.   During the interview, Glick aptly described Hezbollah as Iran’s “foreign legion,” having entrenched itself within Lebanese society, government institutions, and civilian areas. She explains that Hezbollah has rebuilt parts of its military infrastructure after suffering serious setbacks from Israeli operations over the past more than two years, including assassinations and strikes on missile stockpiles.  In the wake of Iran’s renewed attacks on Israel’s northern communities, she states that Israel can simply not tolerate this to continue.

The discussion focused heavily on Hezbollah’s use of tunnels, civilian infrastructure, churches, hospitals, and homes for military activity, drawing significant comparisons to Hamas in Gaza. Glick also raised the worrying concerns regarding the growing threat from Hezbollah’s use of fiber-optic-controlled drones which are being used to target Israeli soldiers and civilians during what has been termed as, while anything but, a ceasefire.

The interview goes on to addresses Israeli-American coordination on Iran and Lebanon, ongoing diplomatic discussions involving Lebanon, and Israel’s broader regional vision under Benjamin Netanyahu. Glick describes plans for expanded regional cooperation, trade corridors linking India, the Gulf states, Israel, and Europe, and portrays Israel as emerging stronger economically and strategically despite the prolonged conflict.
