Americans For A Safe Israel mourns the loss of a true friend of Zionism and the Jewish people, Dr. James Dobson. For decades Dr. Dobson taught Evangelical Christians about the importance of the American-Israel alliance.
Among the many times that Dr. Dobson chose to stand with the Israeli people there are two that stand out. In 2002 Dr. Dobson signed a letter with 26 fellow Evangelical leaders declaring ideas that seem eerily prescient today: “We believe no Palestinian State is possible without an end to terrorist attacks on Israel and democratic reform in the Palestinian territories. We know who the war criminals are and it is not the dedicated members of the IDF who have gone to great lengths to avoid unnecessary death and injury to civilians. … We are disgusted with the rising tide of anti-Semitism that has swept the streets of Western Europe and the “fashionable” anti-Semitism that now seeks respectability in some international bodies and among certain elites. We will speak out forcibly against such evil wherever it appears.”
And in 2018 Dr. Dobson stated: “Today, we celebrate a truly momentous and historic event that has taken place in Israel, as the U.S. formally moves its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. … I am proud to be a citizen of a country that has chosen courage over timidity, standing with Israel and her people by formally recognizing what is plainly obvious to so many — that Jerusalem is both the modern and ancient seat of government and the eternal capital of the nation of Israel.”
Dr. Dobson merited to have an incredibly fruitful career as a Christian leader. We should pray that his example and teachings endure, enlighten and inspire the pro-Israel Evangelical community for generations to come. To Dr. Dobson’s family and students AFSI says: “May the Eternal comfort you among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem”.
