Egypt Says 15 Palestinian Technocrats Approved To Manage Post-War Gaza

Latest Developments

  • Post-War Management Approved: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on October 13 that 15 so far unnamed Palestinian technocrats have been approved in conjunction with Israel to manage post-war Gaza. “We need to deploy them to take care of the daily life of the people in Gaza,” Abdelatty told reporters at the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit, which involved over 20 world leaders. U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace proposal for Gaza calls for a “temporary transitional governance of a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee, responsible for delivering the day-to-day running of public services and municipalities for the people of Gaza.” The committee will be “made up of qualified Palestinians and international experts, with oversight and supervision by a new international transitional body, the ‘Board of Peace,’ which will be headed and chaired by President Donald J. Trump.”

  • El-Sisi says Ceasefire Should Lead to Palestinian State: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi suggested at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit that Trump’s 20-point plan represents the “last chance” for peace in the Middle East. He also stressed during his speech that Trump’s peace deal should pave the way for a Palestinian state alongside Israel. According to el-Sisi’s office, the goal of the summit was to “end the war” in Gaza and “usher in a new page of peace and regional stability.”
  • Trump Says Gaza Plan Doesn’t Address Palestinian State: When asked to respond to el-Sisi’s call for a Palestinian state, Trump said that the Egyptian president was “talking about a different plan,” adding “I’m talking about something very much different.” Trump observed that although “a lot of people like the one-state solution,” and “some people like the two-state solution … we’ll have to see. I haven’t commented on that.” Point 19 of Trump’s proposal leaves a vague possibility of negotiations for Palestinian statehood, stating, “While Gaza re-development advances and when the PA reform program is faithfully carried out, the conditions may finally be in place for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood, which we recognize as the aspiration of the Palestinian people.”

FDD Expert Response

“While it’s encouraging that an independent Palestinian body is expected to oversee Gaza’s post-war administration, its actual authority remains uncertain. A crucial question is whether it will possess the power to enforce laws and manage civil affairs effectively. At present, Hamas, still armed and entrenched, retains real control on the ground. Unless Hamas and other terrorist factions are disarmed, that balance of power is unlikely to change.” Joe Truzman, Senior Research Analyst and Editor at FDD’s Long War Journal

“Due to Hamas’s failure to return 24 fallen hostages, the future of the ceasefire is uncertain. Hamas and its terror partners should be working day and night to locate and return the remains of Israel’s dead. This is no time to split hairs on what a future Palestinian state could look like. Before that conversation can even begin, Hamas must return the hostages and disarm, per Trump’s 20-point plan.” — Enia Krivine, Senior Director of FDD’s Israel Program and National Security Network

  1. What is a Palestinian technocrat? What do they know; what skills do they have; what will they do? How do we know they are neither sympathetic to Hamas or can be bullied by Hamas?

Is this part of the biometric, digital model posited by Patrick Woods?

Why does anyone think I am so stupid as to be lulled into tranquility by the sound of the word “technocrat”?
