Peloni: See Trump’s outrageous response to the Beirut attack at the bottom. He is once more affirming Iranian suzereigntity over Lebanon, and linking Israel’s lack of freedom of action to his negotiation needs with Iran.

Following several reported ceasefire violations over the weekend, including three separate drone attacks on Israeli territory Sunday morning, the IDF conducted strikes in the southern Beirut district of Dahiyeh, a known Hezbollah stronghold.
“The IDF conducted a targeted strike on Hezbollah terrorist organization infrastructure in Dahiyeh, Beirut,” the IDF said in a statement following the strikes, describing it as “a headquarters of the Hezbollah terror organization.”
The military said the strikes came in response to “aerial attacks” launched by Hezbollah earlier this morning.
“The Hezbollah terror organization continues to advance terror plots against the citizens of the State of Israel and IDF forces,” the military said. “The IDF will continue to act to remove any threat to the State of Israel and IDF forces, in accordance with the directives of the political echelon.”

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, three people were killed and 15 injured in the strike on what the IDF said was a Hezbollah command center.
Shortly after that, a vehicle in southern Lebanon was hit in an Israeli airstrike, Lebanese media reported.
The strikes came after 3 separate Hezbollah drone attacks were launched against Israeli territory Sunday morning, as well as against Israeli troops in southern Lebanon.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf responded to the Israeli strikes with a verbal attack on the United States.
“The Zionists’ incursion into Dahiyeh has once again shown that America either lacks the will to fulfill its commitments or the ability to do so,” Ghalibaf wrote on X. “If you lack the will and ability to fulfill your commitments, speaking of continuing the path is not possible.”
Air raid sirens sounded in several northern Israeli communities at around 3:00 a.m. The military later said the drone fell in southern Lebanon. Several hours later, another attack drone fell in the Western Galilee region.
Following that attack, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to authorize strikes on the Hezbollah stronghold of Dahiyeh.
“The firing toward the northern settlements is a test of the Dahiyeh doctrine that the Prime Minister declared,” Smotrich wrote in a post to ?. “I call on him to implement it with determination and force and to demolish buildings in Dahiyeh today as well.”
“We promised security to the residents of the north and we must fulfill it!” he stated.
Minister Ben Gvir called for a “tit-for-tat” strategy, in which every Hezbollah aggression would be met by an Israeli military response.
“For every drone – a missile. For every violation – fire. For every UAV – Hezbollah must tremble,” Ben Gvir posted to ?. “For every hair on the head of an IDF soldier – a thousand Hezbollah terrorists.”
Later in the morning, IDF Arabic Spokesman Colonel Avicahi Adraee issue evacuation notices for 29 villages and towns in southern Lebanon.
“In light of Hezbollah’s violation of the ceasefire agreement, the IDF is compelled to act against it with force,” Col. Adraee warned.
However, following the third launch of an attack drone, the political leadership approved the strike on Dahiyeh.
The situation in Lebanon has remained tense, despite the U.S.-led effort to oversee a historic agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which would lead to peace between the two neighbors.
On Friday, the IDF announced the elimination of over 10 Hezbollah filed commanders in recent days.

On Saturday, the IDF announced the killing of several Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon, who were planning attacks on Israeli troops. The military released pictures of the weapons and equipment found in the tunnel used by the terrorists.

Later that evening, a rocket launched by Hezbollah towards Israeli territory was intercepted by air defense systems.
Despite the ceasefire agreement and ongoing negotiations with Lebanon, the IDF continues to operate in southern Lebanon, locating and demolishing Hezbollah infrastructure in areas that, under the late-2024 ceasefire agreement, were supposed to be free of any Hezbollah presence.
On Saturday, the military said it is poised to expand operations in southern Lebanon, with a focus on the city of Nabatieh, one of the largest cities in the territory.
While north of the Litani River, the city hosts a known Hezbollah presence, and its strategic position, at the nexus of several key roads, has enabled the group to continue to supply fighters engaging the IDF throughout the area. The city is located only 8 kilometers (roughly 5 miles) from Beaufort Castle, and just 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the Israeli border.
According to the Saudi Al-Hadath network, Hezbollah has constructed a tunnel system which extends from the city towards several key points in southern Lebanon. Those tunnels are expected to be the target of Israeli strikes in the coming days.
The Shi’a terror organization still maintains a small fighting force in southern Lebanon, and has made several recent attempts to attack IDF soldiers and even infiltrate Israeli territory.

The military also released more details regarding tunnels dug by Hezbollah under the Beaufort Castle, which the IDF seized earlier this month in fighting with the terror group. Inside the tunnels, the IDF found weapons and maps of northern Israel.
Trump on Truth Social:
This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran. Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process. We are very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region, including to Lebanon, and all sides should stand down. There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel. This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP
