  1. It is more imperative than ever that Israel develops and produces on its own whatever is currently being supplied to them by the Pentagon. American support for Israel is no longer guaranteed no matter which party is in power. I fear JD Vance will be the next GOP nominee and whether it’s him or whoever the Democrat nominee is, it will be a loss for Israel.

    • I agree. The problem arises from the fact that Israel’s entire military is based upon US military weapon systems, systems which are now being offered to Sunni nations beginning with Saudi Arabia. This leaves Israel in a two way trap. She needs to be free of her US weapon systems dependency, but she needs to maintain her military dominance over the Arab states which will soon be in possession of the very weapon systems which Israel should otherwise ween herself from maintaining.

      • @Peloni Well, to start with, it’s crucial that Israel be able to independently manufacture and repair replacement parts and ammunition for the equipment it got from the U.S. Some progress has already been made in this direction. Israel was using French aircraft from ten years before the Six Day War despite the French embargo. Cuba is still using American cars from the ‘50s they just keep repairing and refurbishing. While developing new systems. Israel should continue on the path of developing parallel systems. And I think that applies to war colleges, as well. If officers all go to study in the U.S., that will influence their effectiveness and ideological inclination. Think about it. How many wars has the U.S. won since Korea? Israel has won by thinking outside the box.

Also, a heartening thought, the Arabs won’t know
what to do with the American equipment any more than the Ukrainians, or Iran with Russian equipment.

Israel also buys subs from Germany. Israeli industries must enter and become competitive in large-scale manufacture such as Aircraft and subs before the aid can be completely dropped.

Ultimately, there should be no aid but rather joint projects and buying each others’ new products with some exceptions. There is an Israeli made tank that is not exported.
