Avi Abelow
You won’t believe what I’m about to tell you—but I confirmed it personally, because even I couldn’t believe it at first.
In a recent meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu actually said that Israel is ‘considering stopping the reception of U.S. military aid.’
Yes, you read that correctly. Not “demanding more,” not “thanking the U.S. for its support,” but actually re-evaluating whether Israel should continue receiving it at all.
That might sound small—but it signals a seismic shift.
This is huge!
Now before you say, “Come on, Avi, that must be misreported,” let me be clear: I don’t take anything the media says at face value. So I checked it out myself. I personally verified it. This is not a rumor. It is true. Netanyahu actually said it.
And that changes everything.
Because it means something big is happening behind the scenes. It means we can not trust the headlines about Trump and U.S. policy decisions on Israel, not about so-called “aid” or its supposed conditions. There is a thick fog of smoke and mirrors being deployed right now by US and Israeli leaders, strategically, and the media is totally misreporting everything.
And when Netanyahu of all people—arguably the most pro-American prime minister Israel has ever had—starts publicly stating an end to U.S. military aid, you know tectonic plates are shifting.
Think about what that means. It means Israel finally wants to end strategic dependence on the U.S, which the US deep state has used, together with the Israeli deep state, to control Israeli policy. It means our leadership finally wants to act upon the understanding that the strings attached to that aid is a greater threat than the absence of the aid itself.
And we’re running out of time.
A U.S. Congressman told me this to my face, in his Capitol Hill office just a few months ago:
“We only have a year and a half to make Israel as independent as possible, with its own production capability of all weapons and munitions. Because America needs a strong and secure Israel, and future administrations will be even worse than the Biden administration. And we might lose the House and Senate in the midterms.”
This isn’t paranoia. It’s reality. He knows that for America to be safe, and protected from future damaging administrations, Israel must be independent!
You can’t depend on a White House that hires Muslim Britherhood officials to senior government positions. You can’t trust a media that whitewashes Jew-haters while condemning Jews for defending themselves. And you certainly can’t stake your future on a system being swallowed by “progressive”, really regressive radicals who see Israel as the enemy.
So when Netanyahu says Israel is “considering stopping U.S. military aid,” it’s not just a policy discussion—it’s a bombshell.
Israel must prepare for full independence—militarily, economically, diplomatically. And every Jew and every Zionist around the world must step up and support Israel’s sovereignty, not in theory but in action.
Because the era of dependence is ending.
And the era of Jewish strength must begin—on our terms, with our values, and without permission from Washington.
Trump’s recent decisions—and statements from close allies like Governor Mike Huckabee—make one thing increasingly clear: they are signaling, intentionally or not, that it’s time for Israel to stand on its own two feet.
Am I still worried about Trump administration connections to Qatar, the evil master of the Muslim Brotherhood and founder of the Oct. 7th? Yes, I am.
But, while at first glance some of the Trump administration moves may appear disappointing or confusing, ie – the U.S. deal with the Houthis that does not include Israel – especially to those expecting unwavering alignment, the deeper message is strategic.
They are pushing Israel to become more independent, more self-reliant, and less entangled in the dangerous dependency on American political tides.
This is the lens through which I believe we must interpret the Trump team’s actions—not as abandonment, but as a challenge to rise. And it’s the greatest opportunity we’ve had in generations: to finally step fully into our God given role in the region as the strong, sovereign regional indigenous nation we were meant to be, free of any foreign master pulling our strings.
To some this might be a very scary thought, but it is the right direction, pivoting from a dependent state into an equal ally.
These are unbelievable, redemptive times, and only put your faith in Hashem above!
Israel may indeed stop receiving free aid. One time it was always loans which were meticulously repaid, but the overwhelming Israeli needs caused it to eventually lapse.
However, on one instance I believe you are wrong. Regardless of Israel being “financially” independent from the US. We will still always be in the position of thanking the US for it’s support.
Because we will NEED the support of this friendly Superpower, at least on the International scene, at the UN, and with combined military exercises for our continued existence. Also joint R&D. Investment etc.
I’m just touching on a few essentials, but there are many more.
Peloni
From what I wrote
“This is a surrender to Tucker Antisemitism. Israel must be recompensed for it’s fight against islam and it’s deadly jihad. ”
Becomes
“This is a surrender to Tucker Antisemitism.”
If ever there was two things that it was necessary to leave alone because at the deepest level go together it was those two.
Tucker and that whole layer in politics separate them out
Which are:
Israel
The Jihad
In effect Trump has done the same.
In the midst of the great jihadist attack of October 7 which hits at the centre of Israel Jewish being, trump goes on the attack criticising Israel because it is not feeding and taking care of its enemy.
A major cause of October 7 was the large tunnels which Egypt created on the border
The most heavily watched border in the world!
At that precise point of discovery of the mechanism of October 7 where wa
To enable Israel by law to be in charge of the border.
The first item of the war on Hamas was the isolation of the civilians from Hamas.
Did trump call for that since after all Sinai was gifted to the jihad by America? No.
Did Maga? No
Did Colonel McGregor? No.
The list can go on ad infinitum. But even did anyone from Israeli leadership? No.
So now we are back to the same issue. Israel deserves the support of the whole of civilization for being at the forefront of the struggle against islamic Fascism.
And instead trump is actually continually knifing Israel just as did the Democratic Party.
I do follow in the footsteps of Leon Troysky in 1938. Israel should be supported in every which way it is possible for a country and the people of that country to be.
At that point of me saying that out comes Peloni and his sordid little encising pencil.
I agree with Avi Abelow and his analysis of the need for Israel to be an independent, sovereign, Jewish state. Ironically, the United States is in the same predicament that Israel find’s itself in—just on a larger scale. Consider this: The United States is in a weakened position because of its reliance on foreign sources for components in its manufacturing of military armaments. President Trump is fully committed to making America great again by bringing our manufacturing base back to the USA. All wars are won and lost through the supply lines, whether that means food, soldiers, military hardware, military intelligence, etc., etc. Outsourcing the supply lines is a very risky strategy for a sovereign nation determined to remain sovereign and independent. It is time for both the United States and Israel to become militarily independent, and to stop relying on foreign sources to resupply their supply lines. Nations are like families. “Mama may have, and Papa may have, but God bless the child who has his own.”
Leave it to Avi Abelow to put a positive spin Trump’s betrayal. He’s a Trump Sycophant as are so many Jewish conservatives. Jewish MAGA’s will never be critical of him and will accept from Trump that which was unacceptable under Biden and Obama.
I think it’s great if Israel becomes completely independent of US military “aid”, which isn’t actually aid but used for the purpose of bolstering the US defense industry. It is also used as leverage for the US government to control Israel’s actions in the region. That being said, I think it clearly reveals a rift between Trump and Bibi/Israel. Wouldn’t it be ironic if “Israel’s best friend ever” winds up being responsible for Israel being put in the most existential danger it has ever faced should Iran acquire nuclear weapons capability. Leonkushner, I don’t share your faith in Trump and certainly not the people around him, not Hegseth, Rubio or any of them. I’m done with Trump and MAGA and I will not be supporting Vance in the next presidential election. I will be supporting a traditional GOP candidate. MAGA is responsible for bringing far right antisemites into the GOP’s fold. Trump has allowed that to happen because of his refusal to cast them out. If we don’t watch out, the antisemites will hijack the party like the far-left antisemites took over the Democrats. If we are to be honest, there is an antisemitic streak in the MAGA movement which is gaining more traction.
In one of my all time favourite movies, Cool Hand Luke, Paul Newman who plays the hero in the prison and gets punished time after time for his heroic escape attempts finally tells his palls to ‘stop sucking off me’.
That’s how I feel about so many who idolize President Trump and therefore expect him to fix everything that’s broken in the world today.
I’m thrilled that he is America’s president. I’m equally thrilled that Bibi is Israel’s PM. But like Avi said, I put my faith in Hashem. I never idolize any other human being. That would be a huge mistake. Trump and Bibi are far from perfect. Just like me and you. They are both doing a fantastic, thankless job, G-d bless them both.
A Lefty friend of mine asked me during the election: Leon I know you like Trump because he supports Israel. But what would you do if he were to change course? I told him that I’d dump him faster than a pile of rocks. But that is simply a hypothetical question. We have no such indication. Reading the Left leaning JPOST and most other mainstream media, they are trying to make a rift between Trump and Bibi. In Trump’s visit to the ME soon, he is not planning on stopping off in Israel, just Arab states. Also they mention that Hesgeth cancelled his visit with Bibi. Qatar gave Trump a whopper of a plane after Trump negotiated a peace deal with the Houthis without talking to Israel first. All this news is not terrible at all, yet the MSM decries that all these things add up to a major rift between them. I can assure you that they will use Bibi’s statement that he no longer wants US aid, as yet more proof of the rift.
I trust Trump’s instincts and based on his 4.5 years as president I have no reason to doubt him now. We need to cut him some slack and stop jumping on him the minute he says or does something that we might not like. He is America’s president, not Israel’s. I’m thrilled to hear this from Bibi.
Many years ago I argued the case (I was not alone) that Israel would do better if the US stopped giving her aid as well as stopped giving her Arab neighbours aid. If I was Bibi I’d make that case now. No aid for Israel and no aid for her neighbours (Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Saudis and others) including Gazans and the PA.
fquigley,
You said: “I disagree with you all. Netanyahu must be one weak person.
This is a surrender to Tucker Antisemitism. Israel must be recompensed for it’s fight against islam (sic) and it’s deadly jihad.”
It is not about money or aid. It is about control. When the US gives Israel aid it expects things in return. In middle of the post October 7th wars against Islamic enemies: Hezbollah, Houthis, Hamas, Syria and Iran, the Democrat Regime under Joe Biden cut off weapons to Israel. Israel can not let that happen again. End of story. It’s that simple.
Netanyahu knows this. The Likud Party knows this. The IDF knows this. The Leftist Israeli deep State knows this. The United States knows this – both Israel’s friends and Israel’s enemies. Everyone in Israel knows this who is paying attention. It has nothing to do with Israeli politics and everything to do with Israel’s survival.
The more self sufficient Israel becomes militarily, the stronger it becomes. Since 1947 America has consistently been the best ally Israel has had. But things are changing in the US. The pro Hamas and anti Jewish protests at US colleges, organized by the Far Left in the US shows Jews in the US are now fair game.
I went to Harvard 45 years ago and there was no anti-Israel or anti- Jewish organized opposition. There is today. A Jewish family sending their daughter to Harvard is one that doesn’t care much about her well being in my opinion.
So the question remains. Do you want Israel to have a few $billion a year and hence have Israel’s hands tied again. Or do you realize that Israel has a decision to make and that is to choose independence and self sufficiency so it won’t be blackmailed again.
It may be a difficult choice, but at last Israel has a choice.
@fquigley
I disagree. It portends a serious conflict between the US and Israel, but Israel has needed to throw off this yoke of influence and control which has constrained her into accepting the role of living with and supporting the development of existential threats against the Jewish people, even within the borders of the Jewish State.
I disagree with you all.
Netanyahu must be one weak person.
This is a surrender to Tucker Antisemitism. Israel must be recompensed for it’s fight against islam and it’s deadly jihad.
Good article, and great news.
There are two separate issues. 1) The $3-4 billion in aid every year that is spent on US Arms. 2) Israel becoming independent in making their own weapons systems.
1) This one is easier. Israel has over $200 billion in foreign reserves, mostly debt instruments and can afford to buy what it wants. If that is what Netanyahu is saying, it’s really not a big problem
2) Israel can build virtually all it weapons including advanced aircraft, helicopters and submarines, but at what cost.
It has a shipbuilding industry that makes surface warships and perhaps making its own Dolphin class air independent subs built in Germany can probably be done. That leaves advanced fighter jets. Israel used to make its own fighter jets but stopped under US pressure and the cost of a 4th generation fighter jet.
I think it is worth the effort to make its own planes. Maybe Israel can make a better one than America. It certainly has a better missile defense technology, so why not. Would Rolls Royce, GE, Pratt & Whitney sell them the engines?
No strings attached sounds too good to be true!
We still need help in the UN. There is no way we can trust the other veto members of the UNSC to support Israel in any issue whatsoever. Nonetheless, making those that benefit from Israel pay their part should be moved forward.
All in all, an excellent idea!
