The Knesset has approved, by a narrow 25–24 vote, a preliminary bill to extend Israeli sovereignty over all Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. The proposal, introduced by MK Avi Maoz, aims to apply Israel’s full civil, judicial, and administrative law to the region—essentially bringing it under the same legal framework as the rest of the country. The bill will now move to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee for further review and refinement before advancing to additional readings.
- In a related development, MK Avigdor Liberman’s bill to apply sovereignty to Ma’ale Adumim passed with a wider majority of 32–9, signaling growing parliamentary momentum for formalizing Israel’s jurisdiction in key areas beyond the Green Line.
- A striking moment during the vote came when Likud MK Yuli Edelstein broke ranks with his party and supported Maoz’s bill, directly opposing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stance. His vote underscored emerging divisions within the coalition on the scope and timing of sovereignty measures.
- Supporters of the initiative describe it as a historic and long-overdue act of national self-determination, bringing clarity and equality to Israelis living in the region. They argue that it strengthens Israel’s hold on strategic areas vital for security and reflects the Jewish people’s deep historical and biblical connection to the land.
- Opponents, however, caution that formal sovereignty could inflame tensions with Palestinians, complicate coordination with the Palestinian Authority, and trigger international backlash. Many foreign governments still view the territory as disputed, and the move could challenge diplomatic ties with key allies.
EXPLAINER: WHAT SOVEREIGNTY IN JUDEA AND SAMARIA WOULD MEAN
- Legal Integration: Currently, Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria operate under a blend of military and civil orders. Applying sovereignty would replace this system with Israeli civil law, giving residents access to Israel’s courts, ministries, and police under a unified framework.
- Administrative Changes: Local councils would function fully under Israeli ministries. Civil matters such as zoning, taxation, and infrastructure would fall under national governance rather than military oversight, simplifying bureaucracy and aligning standards with the rest of Israel.
- Symbolic and Strategic Significance: To supporters, this step represents the realization of the Zionist vision—affirming Israel’s right to govern all parts of its ancestral homeland. Strategically, it secures vital geographic corridors such as the Jordan Valley and major settlement blocs viewed as essential to national defense.
- Political and Diplomatic Tensions: Critics fear that the move could undermine the peace process and invite international condemnation. While supporters say it merely codifies decades of on-the-ground reality, others warn that it risks isolating Israel and escalating regional friction.

What the hell is going on?
Arutz Sheva
The Communist/Woke Israeli Supreme Court and the Woke AG will put a stop to this good legislation.
They always are on the wrong side and that is why Israel’s totally crooked judicial system needs drastic reform.
This is long overdue. However, if Zahran’s plan comes to fruition and it coincides with Netanyahu’s and Trump’s plan, then this activity could be jumping the gun. Maybe some behind closed doors discussion is needed here, maybe not. These special discussion rounds are notoriously leaky!!
Go for it!!!! Who’s going to stop them???
