Israeli political officials clarified Monday that there is no known connection between Israel and the explosion at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port over the weekend, which killed 40 people and injured more than 400.
“There is ongoing communication at many levels,” a political source said when briefing reporters. “I would not suggest drawing premature conclusions. The relationship between the governments is close and positive.”
The explosion occurred as Iran held a third round of nuclear talks with the United States in Oman, intensifying regional speculation about its cause. However, Israeli officials firmly denied any involvement, stressing the importance of dialogue with Washington.
“We maintain a dialogue with the Americans, and it is not one-sided; we also express our positions,” the source said, highlighting the strong partnership between Israel and the United States amid heightened tensions with Iran.
The source also praised recent statements by US officials, notably those by envoy Steve Witkoff regarding the dismantling of Iran’s enrichment and reprocessing capabilities, and Senator Marco Rubio’s emphasis on preventing Iranian enrichment activities beyond its borders.
“I am confident that the United States is committed to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons,” the source affirmed.
While Israel continues to view Iran’s nuclear ambitions as a red line, officials noted that other actors specifically Qatar are exerting a “non-positive” influence on the nuclear negotiations currently underway.
Saturday’s devastating blast in Bandar Abbas unfolded against the backdrop of these complex negotiations, adding to an already volatile regional atmosphere. Though the cause of the explosion remains under investigation, Israeli leadership remains focused on safeguarding national interests through diplomacy, deterrence, and, when necessary, firm action.
Israel remains vigilant against any threats to its security while working closely with trusted allies to secure a future free from Iranian nuclear aggression.
Israel is probably not displeased by the explosion of rocket fuel, but if we look around, there are other candidates who are just as happy that the rockets will not be deployed immediately. Even the Chinese, who apparently delivered the fuel, may be interested in the follow-up deal to provide more of that expensive product to their favorite customer. The Saudis are certainly happy that the Houthis will have a break in their fireworks games and I’m sure, if we think about it a little longer, this sounds like a win-win for everybody, including the Iranians themselves since the inevitable bombardment will be postponed.
