Netanyahu preparing harsh response to Palestinians – but not settlement construction

T Belman. Netanyahu should never have said that we won’t build because of the condemnation. I understand his desire to not attract attention from the ICC issue. To this end, there is no need to say we wont build. Better to not say anything on that score.

Lieberman: Palestinian moves at ICC show Oslo Accords have collapsed
Lieberman accuses European countries of abandoning Israel, points to support in UNSC for Palestinian statehood as proof of problematic ties.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing a harsh response to the Palestinian moves at the International Criminal Court in The Hague but clarified late last week that it will not include a declaration of settlement construction, Foreign Ministry Director-General Nissim Ben Sheetrit told Israel’s envoys to Europe at a conference in Jerusalem on Sunday.

In November 2012, after the Palestinian Authority’s status at the United Nations General Assembly was upgraded to non-member observer state, Netanyahu ordered a wave of settlement construction to the tune of thousands of housing units and the advancement of plans for the Mevasseret Adumim neighborhood in the E-1 corridor between Ma’aleh Adumim and Jerusalem.

Israel met severe international criticism in the wake of that decision. A senior Israeli official said Sunday morning that the lesson had been learned and that the government had no desire to return to any processes that would focus international criticism on Israel instead of the Palestinian bid at the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

Nissim Ben Sheetrit emphasized to the envoys that Israel’s response would be much harsher and more comprehensive than freezing the Palestinian Authority’s tax revenues. In the wake of the Palestinian bid, “Israel is about to switch from defense to attack [mode],” said Ben Sheetrit.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu told ministers at the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem on Sunday that the Palestinian Authority has chosen to initiate a confrontation with Israel.

“We will not sit idly by,” Netanyahu said. “We will not allow Israeli soldiers and officers to be dragged to The Hague. The Palestinian Authority’s leaders, who forged an alliance with Hamas war criminals, are the ones who should be punished.”

More than 30 Israeli ambassadors serving in European countries were attending the conference, which runs until Wednesday evening. Ben Sheetrit told the envoys that Israel had even considered calling off the conference and returning the ambassadors to their European stations in order to begin diplomatic moves against the Palestinians. The conference may still be shortened by a day or two, he said.

Despite Israel’s harsh response, it has no desire to cease security cooperation with the Palestinian Authority or to bring about its demise.

Earlier at the conference, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told the delegates that the Palestinians’ attempt to join the International Criminal Court at The Hague “demonstrates that the Oslo Accords have failed.”

  1. Calling all stations! URGENT! EMERGENCY!
The Islamic Arabs in Ramallah are menacing with DISMANTLING the so called PA.. OH NO! Please do not do that… (Laughing at this point is optional).
Please Lord! Let them do that… Please.

  2. @ watsa46:
Greetings Watsa45… Que tengan un muy buen anio.
As to the West knowing or accepting.
We are aborigines here. The islamic excrement are murderous invaders. Predicated on those and other facts the expanded feeling here is that the West and or any other that so wishes, can shove their wants where the Sun does not shine. Netanyahu and the rest are in there under very short leashes and they can easily find themselves sternly removed in short notice.
This is our Land, they all may like it or not, who cares anymore.
In turn, I will solemnly promise that I will not demand from to “West” to open the concentration camps, AKA Indian reservations, allowing the Native Americans to return to their Lands.
I will not demand that the British leave Gibraltar. From Las Islas Malvinas they will be razed away on way or another.
I will not tell the Spanish to leave their two colonies in Africa. Or free the Basques.

    Shalom from Shmuel

  3. Oslo accords were death-do. What is the point for repeating that since the West refuses to accept this “evident” fact?

  4. @ woolymammoth:
To cover up reality, the likud gangs working with Netanyahu accepted a “partial recount” in two areas, some 29 boxes. The results are only a cover up to keep the rest of the massive vote fiddling in place.
During the so called “general elections” it will be even worse. If the people votes for the resulting aggregate in March, we will face consequences that will forever be a stain on all of us. And terrible dangers to our families.
Somehow we must all help to derail the foreign controlled plans.
Mr. Bennett seems the logical option.

  5. @ SHmuel HaLevi 2:
Absolutely. Netanyahu is clearly appeasing The EU, who require face saving measures in their new role as “Islamic State Advocates” and The US Administration, who are still threatening to at any point in time;refuse to exercise a UN veto. To that segment of The Israeli Electorate, to the exclusion of the rest, to whom he is pandering he can say ‘hey look, I acted tough and harsh and we have the israeli newspaper columns to prove it, why here’s one from a proven “zionist”, ‘barak rabid’. Netanyahu knows he has lost us to Bennet and frankly, …”does’nt give a damn…”.
There is a new debkafile outlining some of these new “harsh” measures Netanyahu and his useful idiot Ya’alon have implemented in the south. They are withdrawing from Gaza patrol duty.
Bennet may upon election day, pull a rabbit out of his hat. I hope it a big one with one dozen unanticipated mandates.

  6. from the newest debkafile:

“…Israelis living in a string of villages and towns bordering on the Gaza Strip protested in vain against Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon’s decision to withdraw the military presence keeping them safe, especially since the summer war on Gaza…”

Apparently Netanyahu is willing to allow iranian controlled hamas in gaza to ‘play’ ‘russian roulette’ with Israel’s battered communities within missile/tunnel range of gaza…

  7. @ SHmuel HaLevi 2:

I too agree with you. Unlike most of those commenting here I want the Likud to lose big. As long as the likud is headed by BB and those like him the political right in Israel will remain divided and impotent. Only if the left is running the show can the political right in Israel coalesce, unify and work to block any moves by the government of the left from carrying out their agenda.

  8. Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing a harsh response to the Palestinian moves at the International Criminal Court in The Hague but clarified late last week that it will not include a declaration of settlement construction,

    😛 😛 😛
The only thing “HARSH” will be the continuing stream of BS that it will be “HARSH”!

it will not include a declaration of settlement construction,

therefore LESS HARSH than settlement construction which is merely Jews expanding with within the walls of their ghetto assigned by the foreigners. The only settlement construction of BB I beleive is expansion in existing settlements. therefore, BB will not even allow that….oooooh how harsh is that?

the government had no desire to return to any processes that would focus international criticism on Israel… instead of the Palestinian bid at the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

Breathing focuses international attention on Israel!

“Israel is about to switch from defense to attack [mode],” said Ben Sheetrit.

there has been no defense mode either in the legal sphere. Shurat ha din is already doing the attack, just give them the job because the GOI is pathetic.

“We will not sit idly by,” Netanyahu said. “We will not allow Israeli soldiers and officers to be dragged to The Hague.

empty boast… that’s the minimum, which is only happening because the pals seized the initiative.

had even considered calling off the conference and returning the ambassadors to their European stations in order to begin diplomatic moves against the Palestinians.

So they want CREDIT for just considering something that will be meaningless? How about calling in the ambassadors and demanding their adherence to their agreements with the Jews and ceasing the libels of illegitimate or illegal Jewish settlement? How about expressing the mere words that Jewish settlement is neither illegal nor illegitimate? BS artists cant even utter words… why not, they are always uttering meaningless words and not following through so why not utter those words?

Netanyahu ordered a wave of settlement construction to the tune of thousands of housing units and the advancement of plans for the Mevasseret Adumim neighborhood in the E-1 corridor between Ma’aleh Adumim and Jerusalem.

LOL, did any of it start construction yet?

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told the delegates that the Palestinians’ attempt to join the International Criminal Court at The Hague “demonstrates that the Oslo Accords have failed.”
The greatest challenge is [promoting] an Israeli initiative that safeguards our interests,” Lieberman said, adding that the challenge lies in Israel’s diplomacy not with Arab counties, but with Western states and the European Union.
    http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/.premium-1.635216

And yet this incompetent and useless blowhard who headed Israels diplomacy never safeguarded Israels interests by calling in the ambassadors of western nations and the EU and demanding they cease their libels of illegal and illegitimate settlement as per all binding legal agreements, encourage Jewish settlement as per all binding legal agreements, and demand of them to cease breaking their agreements and instead fulfill their legally binding agreements. This empty suit cannot even utter words of truth:

Without this Liberman is a BLOWHARD dead weight incompetent FM!

  9. Israel could try and find people more agreeable to manage the PA. Israel may try this and help it along the way by stopping permanently the tax transfers and maybe even allow the electricity to go off for a week or two.

This could also set the stage for some annexations of parts of Judah and Samaria.

  10. Agreed. Israel is not going to dissolve the PA – never mind that its in bed with a terrorist organization.

Netanyahu is just engaging in cynical electioneering tough talk. All of these measures against the Arabs are easily reversible and will be quietly dropped once a new government takes office after the elections in March.

  11. I ceased to be in any way surprised about how stupid we are as a people. I mean, honestly, how many times does Netanyahu have to lie, deceive one an all until people would wake up? What does it take?
Netanyahu will NOT do a single permanent thing against his Muslim “partners”, NOTHING!
Not against Abbas, not against Hamas, not against Iran…
The purportedly frozen money in custom taxes levied on behalf of Abbas, will be released in a short time.
The huge electricity, water and other debts of the Muslims will never be collected.
Netanyahu will NOT allow construction for Jews in any significant fashion. He lied many times about that and he will not change.
He will destroy Jewish settlements. And persecute Jews.
What does it take for our people to get it?
Why would the speechster change? He has suffered no jeopardy for all of his previous lies, underhanded conniving, vicious acts and nevertheless is slated to be given more time.
Now he is piping that he will defend soldiers accused in the international courtiers location. G.d protect those soldiers from such “defense”.
And he will not do a thing to obtain the release of Pollard, he will only take credit if The US Adm releases Pollard on its own interest.
