Hillary Clinton Appeals Federal Court Order to Go Under Oath

In another desperate attempt by the Clinton machine to delay truth and accountability for her email conduct and how it impacted the people’s “right to know” under FOIA, lawyers for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her former Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills have asked the Court of Appeals to overturn a U.S. District court order granting Judicial Watch’s request for their depositions about Clinton’s emails and Benghazi attack records. Lawyers for Clinton and Mills filed a “Petition for Writ of Mandamus” earlier today.

The Clinton request comes in Judicial Watch’s lawsuit that seeks records concerning “talking points or updates on the Benghazi attack” (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:14-cv-01242)). Judicial Watch famously uncovered in 2014 that the “talking points” that provided the basis for Susan Rice’s false statements were created by the Obama White House. This Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit led directly to the disclosure of the Clinton email system in 2015. Read more…

The melting pot metaphor applies to a society where many different types of people blend together as one. A national identity bouillabaisse if you will. It is essentially an environment in which many ideas, religions and races are socially assimilated. Since its inception America has prided itself in being a melting pot. While some countries are composed of people who are almost all the same in terms of race, religion, and culture (Scandinavia, the Middle East, Asia and India come to mind), the United States is a nation of many different types of people.

This concept was recognized with the gift of the Statue of Liberty to America back in 1886.  In recent years, however, it seems that the assimilation of peoples and cultures has become more of a distant memory than a present reality

After the close of the Civil War, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was commissioned by the French government to create a statue that would commemorate the allegiance between the two countries in honor of America’s first centennial celebration of the Declaration of Independence in 1876. Work was begun by Bartholdi a year earlier and officially titled “The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World.”

Can Netanyahu preserve Israel’s Jewish character?

For pro-Zionists and for those who celebrate Israel’s right to exist as a state for Jews and as a Jewish state, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s electoral victory on March 2, 2020 is cause for universal celebration.

Something daunting, however, happened on that night. The Joint List, the unified ticket of four major Arab factions, won 15 of Israel’s seats in the Knesset. An Arab alliance hostile to Israel is the third largest party in the Knesset. It is also the party which an increasing number of Jewish Israelis are joining and voting for. It is the party that the majority of Arab and Palestinian citizens of Israel vote for. Since the September 2019 elections in Israel, the Joint List increased support in Jewish areas by 60%. It is comprised of an ideologically strange mélange of communists, Arab nationalist, Islamists, Hamas supporters and sympathizers. Not all are unified in their support for Arab-Jewish solidarity. This party attracted ultra-Orthodox Jews who feel ostracized for not serving in the military along with Haredi Israelis as well. Ethiopian Jews who feel that they exist on the periphery of Israeli society are also attracted in large numbers to the Joint List. Jews who are repelled by talk of an “Arab threat from within” felt attracted to vote for the Joint List. The Joint List is a political organization, one might also add, that, aside from holding hostile views towards Israel, has illiberal views with regards to gays and lesbians and women.

A barrage of rockets hit a base housing U.S. and other coalition troops north of Baghdad, Iraqi security officials said Saturday, just days after a similar attack killed three servicemen, including two Americans.

At least two Iraqi soldiers were wounded in the attack at Camp Taji, according to the Iraqi officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

The officials said over a dozen rockets landed inside the base. Some struck the area where coalition forces are based, while others fell on a runway used by Iraqi forces.

President Trump on Friday declared a national emergency over the widening coronavirus outbreak in the US.

“To unleash the full power of the federal government, I’m officially declaring a national emergency. Two very big words. The action I am taking will open up access to up to $50 billion of … very important and a large amount of money for states and territories and localities in our shared fight against this disease,” Trump said, at a White House Rose Garden press conference Friday as the death toll in the US topped 40.

“And in furtherance of the order I’m urging every state to set up emergency operation centers effectively immediately. I’m also asking every hospital in this country to activate emergency preparedness plan to meet the needs of Americans everywhere,” the president continued.

Trump noted that he had been working with the individual state leaders, including New York. “I just spoke with Gov. Cuomo, we had a very good conversation and we’re working very strongly with many states including New York,” he said, adding that he was also expanding the power of Health and Human Service Secretary Alex Azar.

In just 24 hours, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince launched an oil-price war with Russia and sidelined a domestic rival to cement his power at home. But his surprise actions on the world stage and within his own kingdom were set in motion months ago.

As Saudi Arabia was gearing up to sell shares in Saudi Aramco, its national oil company, late last year, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had teamed with Russia to limit oil production and keep prices high. But that partnership was faltering. And in the weeks leading up to the December initial public offering, the crown prince—the kingdom’s day-to-day ruler—had clamped down on political rivals in Riyadh.

The two strains culminated publicly—Friday in Riyadh when masked security personnel detained several high-ranking Saudi princes, and Saturday around the world when the crown prince abandoned his Russian alliance and decided to flood the globe with cheap oil. Investors responded Monday by driving down oil and stock prices.

The United States launched airstrikes against an Iranian-backed militia in Iraq early Friday, responding to a rocket attack on a military base that killed one British and two U.S. service members in a new round of escalating tensions.

The Pentagon said in a statement that U.S. forces hit facilities “across Iraq” linked to Kataib Hezbollah, including storage facilities that housed weapons used in attacks on American and coalition troops.

Canadian firm says it could make 10 million doses per month — if its innovative production method wins FDA approval.

A Canadian company says that it has produced a COVID-19 vaccine just 20 days after receiving the coronavirus’s genetic sequence, using a unique technology that they soon hope to submit for FDA approval.

Medicago CEO Bruce Clark said his company could produce as many as 10 million doses a month. If regulatory hurdles can be cleared, he said in a Thursday interview, the vaccine could start to become available in November.

An Israeli research lab has also claimed to have created a vaccine. But Clark says his company’s technique, which has already been proven effective in producing vaccines for seasonal flu, is more reliable and easier to scale.

Announcing nationwide school closures and urging an emergency unity government to “save the lives of generations” of Israelis from the coronavirus, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday night presented a profoundly stark assessment of the pandemic’s potential global consequences, indicating that it could cause tens of millions of deaths if it cannot be stopped.

Netanyahu, who has instituted some of the world’s most stringent measures to try to thwart the spread of the virus in Israel in recent days and weeks, described the pandemic as “a global and national incident the likes of which Israel has never known.”

The last threat to which the coronavirus could be likened, he said, was the Spanish flu, one of the deadliest epidemics in human history, “which raged worldwide” in 1918. “Tens of millions of people died from it,” he noted, “at a time when the world population was a quarter of today’s.”

For all the talk and theorizing about how Blue and White leader Benny Gantz might be able to form a government without Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Likud buy-in, the reality is that Gantz is living in a field of dreams.

Unlike the baseball movie by that name, with its famous meme “If you build it, they will come,” Gantz will find that he cannot build it, and they will not come.

Blue and White won only 33 Knesset seats in this election. Amid all his frenzied activity to form a government on his terms, trying to corral a majority of Knesset members to recommend him to President Reuven Rivlin, few observers seem to ask where this “minority government” that he is negotiating is going to come from. Orly Levy-Abekasis, who took the first step to torpedo Benny Gantz’s gambit with the Joint Arab List, is a good example of the Left’s problem. What’s more important, love of Israel and caring about the national interests, or “anyone but Netanyahu” as the slogan goes?

Levy-Abekasis, despite being a member of a left-wing party, still has ties and connections to planet earth, which is to say with the public, the street, the common folk; thus differentiating her from the political circle she joined. Indeed, the very Twitter elite and the ruling class that only recognizes party affiliation; only recognize belonging to the camp. From their perspective, she is a traitor or defector, because only loyalties to the camp and class are important. If the Joint Arab List helps topple Netanyahu, then what does it matter how many hugs and kisses were shared with terrorists – they will jump into bed with the Joint List.

In addition to the aspect of belonging, which has been a foreign concept to the Left for quite some time now, there’s also the matter of conscience and ideological integrity. The easiest version to digest as far as the public and pundits’ are concerned is that Levy-Abekasis found the right time and reason to exact revenge: against Benny Gantz, who didn’t roll out the red carpet for her to join Blue and White, against Avigdor Lieberman, the chairman of her former party, Yisrael Beytenu; against the white tribe, on behalf of her predominantly Sephardic hometown of Beit Shean.

The Health Ministry on Thursday announced multiple new cases of Israelis found to be carrying the coronavirus, as the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country climbed to 100.

Two patients are in serious condition and three are defined as moderate, according to the ministry.

Among the newly diagnosed are two children, a 10-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl, from central Israel. The boy had recently traveled with his father to Spain.

The recent cases also included a pair of women in their 60s from central Israel who returned to the country from New York via Moscow on March 9, the ministry said.

The Ramallah-based Palestinian leadership has lambasted the US State Department’s annual human rights report for referring to Palestinians living in East Jerusalem as “Arab residents,” saying it was “falsifying history.”

In its human rights report issued on Wednesday, the State Department referred to Palestinians residing in the parts of Jerusalem on the West Bank side of the security barrier as “Palestinians.” When alluding to all Palestinians in the city, it called them “Arab residents.”

“Any attempt at falsifying history or truth will not give legitimacy to anyone and will not change the history of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem,” Nabil Abu Rudeineh, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s spokesman, said on Wednesday in a statement carried by the official PA news site Wafa.

The US State Department has expressed its outrage at the European Union for refusing to set greater international coordination on maintaining the sanctions regime aimed towards pressuring Iran over its continued sponsorship of terrorism and developing ballistic missile program, according to a report released by the Washington Free Beacon.

As an apparent indication of the growing divide between the Trump Administration and their European allies on the issue of Iran, the report notes that Europe’s alleged unwillingness to take a unified approach has led to the anger of hardliners in the US. European leaders have continued to stress that new sanctions may prompt the withdrawal of Iran from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
